  • I have been playing drums for a long long time ,,, and YOU KEITH CARLOCK are my Favorite drum soloist these days .......... You actually made me love drum solos again after burning out on them ,,, Thanks Man ! I Love You !!

  • @Drumguitarman Oh ,, now i play drums in BritBeat ( as Ringo Starr ) and The Attitudes ( drum solo ) . Thank-Yopu again for these awesome INSPIRING clips Keith !!!$!

  • bass drum sounds amazing, and the rest of the kit, saw Keith recently on the Steely tour here in Aus, kicked ass.

  • I bet no one can ever steal his car!

  • Love Keith !

  • Glorious traditional grip!!!

  • the funky parts are weak.31, but all the rest is off the charts!!!

  • This guy kills! At his age (I'm guessing late 30's) he's still getting better. He drives Steely Dan's band with perfect technique and precision! He plays killer yet very musical solos. And he's got the best snare ghost notes this side of David Garibaldi. He'll go down as an all time great!

  • bonham jazz version... awesome

  • fantastic, creative, original, melodic, you run out of adjectives with this cat.Does anyone else hear some John Bonham? Mitch Mitchell and Ginger Baker as well. This cat draws from the Great masters but manages Not to sound like a Copycat. UNREAL FEEL!!!

  • I first saw this guy at monterey Jazz festival in 2008 when he was playing fusion, walked into this old hall and hear Keith playing the most amazing drum solo I ever heard - best drummer I've ever seen live. Another great talent is Gerry Pantanzis who plays in melbourne, Australia - incredibly gifted drummer also.

  • there's a poetry to his style. it's ecstatic.

  • So sick!!!Drumming god

  • pure emotion!

  • bello!

  • I haven't heard such a creamy drummer since like mitch mitchell. love it!

  • Best. Bass. Drum. Sound. Ever!!!!!

If he could spare me 1/1000th of his talent I'm sure he wouldn't miss it but my talent would increase a hundredfod.

  • Total swing, exactly what drumming is all about...awesome player..and i love the sound of his drums..

  • My god its so fun to watch him..he's got like old timey rythims that he's hybrided to new groove stuff. Its a fucking clinic. Dude your my favorite.

  • One of the greatest drummers ever to touch this earth.

  • I had the honor to play drums and graduate high school with Keith. He was amazing back then and still is. Most incredible, he has remained the most down to earth and humble guy! Rock on bro.....Ryan

  • his technique is untouchable

  • Keith thinks on his feet. Even when he plays something he didn't mean to play, he makes something out of it that makes sense and keeps on going. He doesn't freak out over mistakes. I love his feel and his groove!

  • Absolutely right BlowDeBloody,

You can tell he has mastered Ted Reeds Syncopation (you can hear the exercises!) and Stick Control.

Keith is like Vinnie Coluaita in the sense that they are sooooo musical in their playing. Loved Keith with Steely Dan too.

KIDS: this is a drummer to aspire to!

  • Reminds me a lot of Johnny Raab. Maybe I should say Johnny Raab reminds me a lot of Keith.

    Either way both are mutant.

  • I'm 58 years young. I experienced a 25 year sabbatical. Practiced for 1,000 hours.

    I smoke this no talent.

  • @Easleytee OK. Post a video.

  • @Easleytee lol, sure you would pal. what colour beta blockers are you on today then?

  • I just wish he would play with Wayne Krantz and Tal Wilkenfeld again

    thats how i discovered him

  • Looks like he's lost a TON of weight!

  • @gijosephacoleman I think his wife had a lot to do with that being in love can do that what a great drummer!

  • @gijosephacoleman I think his wife had alot to do with that being in love can do that. Kieth is an amazing drummer!

  • I've been watching keith Play in NYC with Krantz in the 55bar since 96. The grrove master. Good job with the weight loss there Keith!!

  • It's like this guy has 4 arms! the sound he produces is amazing..

  • just like i taught him...

keith just kills it every time,

anytime i watch his vids i feel the need to get behind my kit

  • Keith is hands down the smoothest drummer around. his "feel" is perfect and his playing should show anyone that they can do anything you put your mind to. but to be real >>>this guy is a mutant and his soul is here to do just what hes doing.

  • Really, somebody didn't like this?...an ex girlfriend of Mr. Carlock's perhaps? This guy's legit'

  • truly amazing.....keith is further proof that one doesnt need super fast double bass to be a great all around drummer and musician...

  • the best part was from 0:01 to 7:40.

  • check out how his drums are tilted AWAY from him. Unique style. Brilliant drummer

  • nice

  • Is his bass drum completely empty?

  • This guy is a band all by himself....

  • That kick drum is glorious.

  • He lost alot of weight, but haven't lost any groove (((((:

  • @YoavMr There's a video up of him playing in '09. He was huge.

I think he might have gained a bit more groove, though.

  • I didnt want that to end.

  • 4:54 the classic Carlock lick. always wanted to know how to do that. never heard anyone else play it like that either. Is it me or has he lost a lot of weight

  • @tooldrummer He lost a couple of pounds during this solo for sure :p

  • 1 dislike some people are fuckin mental

  • @crossofthesphinx f.y.i. I;m not racist, I'm actually white, but I like to say that. I like to catch people out once in a while. Makes me and them feel alive.

  • White boy can drum

  • who ever did that one dislike..fuck you

  • Sweet stuff man....

  • incredible power and precision

  • ...a perfect drummer. He does all the practice, has read all the books, but he forgets all that when he plays and just talks, It's that natural to him. He has it the right way around. Let technique be the tool to shape your voice, don't let technique become your voice.

  • Brilliantly said!!!! I agree 100%

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff Right on, mate. Most of todays "best" drummers solos are like very very strict practice moments. Soulless, collorless. But techniqually sublime, though. Keith is just making music that flow.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff Your like the Aristotle of drumming philosiphy.

  • @civictuner91 lol, that's probably the nicest thing anyone has said to me, on the net anyway :)

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff

I like what you said about "don't let technique become your voice". It seems like it takes years and years of playing and studying an instrument until we truly know what that means.

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff well spoken (typed).

  • I can only dream of playing like Keith... He is truly a master of drums...

  • Great stuff Keith

  • Genius!

  • O_o

  • 4:55 what IS that? man its sick!. some kinds of extrmely fast doublestrokes?

  • @storefedekussesvin You bet! I've been practicing a lick he always does with doubles like that; going between snare, kick and swiping of the toms to the snare. It's really fun!!

  • YEA!

  • Comment removed

  • I have this exact drum set, but I can't seem to make it sound as good as Keith does. LOL

  • @ngineer1965 This is what I am on about. Why do you want to sound like Keith? There's already a Keith Carlock out there. Watch the guy and admire him, but when you go to play your own kit, forget about him, be yourself!!! I know he's great, but that's not the point. If you can't find your own way to speak musically, then you don't have what it takes to be a player. it may take you years to find it, but you must keep trying.

  • Keith has always been one of my favorite drummERS!!!..and he was the first guy to tell me who Zigaboo iS!!!..rOCk on KEitH!!!..peace&Love,J

  • DAMN! He's got that "Bonham foot"

  • @1hiphapa so true!

  • he lost weight :) but still a god :)

  • Incredible as usual. Read that about a year ago he went on a diet and exercise regimen and lost 60 pounds.Good for Keith.

  • @Markgr122 I was at this event, it was so surprising to see him come out and be like so thin when i expected him still to be chubby. In one solo he cut his hand and was like "Jeez, theres blood all over me brand new coated heads, damn it." hahaha

  • The part starting at 4:50 is just awesome :)

  • This is most beautiful drum kit I ever seen!! I love it!!

  • i think i came

  • No you are correct it isn't the 'why' but is a great example of 'how', that's what I wrote. It was great to watch and I would love to see it again.

I don't want to get into a debate of the taxonomy of the terminology I would just like to watch it again. Sorry if the phrase 'finger drumming' offended you so much. Please accept my apology.

  • incredible... he makes it look too easy

  • keith hit his drums just once. all the rest was rebound

  • @sotizz One word, SLICK!

  • Comment removed

  • If you have it please post his opening with the finger drumming, its a great example of what makes him one of the most melodic and musical drummers out there today.

  • "finger drumming" as you call it...has nothing to do with why he his so melodic.

  • very very nice!

  • i wa sthere
