  • Ken Russell (RIP) was undoubtedly very talented but he seemed intent on shocking an audience just for the sake of it.

This scene is a prime example of that. This is so over the top that it becomes groteqsue and obscene.

His best films are the ones where he manages to restrain himself as in Women in Love and Mahler.

  • @BrickLaneBetty I can only assume you're saying this from experience as a closeted homosexual who has had several wives.

  • @dcasey77 haha no. It is all over the media, men who are in the closet marrying straight. Bearded marriages where BOTH parties no it is a set up is fine but a "down low" union is wrong. Growing up i had a friend who's mum put on a sexy nightgown to entice her husband who was obviously a gay guy in the closet and ended up doing a suburban version of what you see above. its disturbing because it is real!

  • @BrickLaneBetty Right...

  • Tchaikovsky was totally gay! This movie is full of crap.

  • the music is amazing... it sounds like a hitchcock movie o_0

  • Is it deliberately symbolic that at the end the movement of the train is making her shake her head as if to say 'no'?

  • @oliverbayley1 He's the one saying no, not her.

  • That's what happens when you drink too much all of a sudden. Especially champaign.

You can check it on Wikipedia:)

  • I need to see this movie. I love Ken Russell. BTW, the nude woman is Glenda Jackson, Academy Award winner and current member of the London Parliament.

  • It is not just parts of the Pathetique symphony that is played in this scene. In the veyr climax, it's actually excerpts from his biggest symphony and most romantic symphony by Tchaikovsky, the Manfred Symphony. (first movement)

  • love the motion of the train making him sick along with a nude woman quite tragic to be a fruit!

  • Great stuff. This film should be released on DVD!

  • @mariavon22 It's on Netflix.

  • mariavon22 Many thanks for this information.

  • A stunning scene; one of Russell's greatest set pieces.

  • Art !!! i love it, the whole film must be brill !!!!

  • They both are young and pretty in spite of the horror of this scene - Glenda and RC
