I just want to respond to some of the previoius posters who misunderstood her point. She isn't trashing the army or the people who have chosen to protect and serve. She is speaking more so on the fact that many of our underprivelaged youth are heavily recruited out of high school, and the major selling point is money for college so you can achieve the "American Dream". There asking you to join in order to improve yourself, while conveniently leaving out the gloomy side that may come with it.
I don't know why people sign up for the army then bitch when they actually get drafted. Yea, you signed up for the college money but it was your own stupidity to take the army lightly. You signed yourself up to defend your country if you didn't believe in that cause then you had no right to expect help from your country. This was a two way deal so don't bitch when your country calls you on it.
Sunni, My sweet Sunni! This is my fave, maybe cause it was the first time I ever heard a piece from you. First impressions are always the lasting ones, and it is a beautiful memory to have of you. Love you sooooooo Much. Many blessings and love to you and the one within! MUAH! ..........When you comin back this way?
Damn I miss New Orleans and this sista's poetry. I have heard her in a minute. She has been doing this for years and was deep in her youth She has done nothing but gotten better.
I previewed the sister on Def Poetry Jam as well. The sister is deep as the NILE. Her third eye is the jewelry of every goddess that has ever walked this earth. She captivates and embodies the spirit of a people and their power. Damn her mind and soul is beautiful. She is the El Hajj Malik El Shabazz of words spoken.. she's fluid
She wholly touches me, I sAid poWER!! POWER! I only discovered this woman, this poet, 24 hours ago and I remain captivated. She gave "We Made It" to the world on Def Poetry Jam last night and MADE me WAKE UP and listen.

If you like the poetry of Sunni, watch "I Have a Dream in New Orleans." It is a speech about a nonviolent resistance movement in New Orleans.
