um, you guys are crazy and i fucking hope to hell at least half these guys go back to metalcore. fuuuuuuuuuck, given what they can do now? i'd stalk that tour and shit my pants every gig shameless as fuck.
@rage1331 Nah, he plays all sorts of stuff with finger or pick. He's been playing stuff like on his solo album for 10 years+, even since back in the point of you days when I first met him.
I'm not bashing the band or any members in it, but this band severely dissapoints me. Tosin and Evan both have so much writing skill and technical proficiency, I just expected so much more from them. Seriously not hating, this is obviously not bad, it just could have been so much more. On another note, it's cool to see Tosin headbanging, he rarely really gets into it when playing with AAL.
@shadowromeo22 I know, I heard AAL first, then Evan Brewer's Alone, and THEN someone told me they were in a band together at one point. So I got my hopes up based on their current material. Like I said, this isn't bad at all, I'll probably even get the CD. I just half expected to see some crazy ass prog metal.
It cracks me up that people are just now discovering this band because of Tosin's success with AAL and Evan joining The Faceless. I remember seeing these guys in 2003 while Tosin was still in PSI before he joined Reflux. This whole album is great if you can find it anywhere. Miss this band!
i tell people about this album all the time! if it wasnt for these guys i wouldnt have wanted to join up with my band, they influenced me big time. Just wana say thanx, an were recording n ten days. Wish they were known though they rock

And who the hell can just play like that without knowing any modes/scales/key signatures/etc. Go to school or shut your mouth. There's enough retards on the planet.
@supermario5 I can tell you that it's based off of an augmented C major 7th arpeggio descending in a tripplet 16th note sequence....does that sound like someone who plays by ear???
@trentbrew24 You don't have to know music theory to be a good musician. Sure, it's great to study and it helps sometimes, but some musicians are great without it. Chuck Schuldiner of Death was an amazingly creative musician, yet he knew very little musical theory. He was definitely better than the guy in this band.
@trace632 uhh, i am a MASSIVE chuck/death fan, and no, he was not better than this guy (tosin). for that matter, he wasn't better than paul masvidal (his hired gun guitarist for "human" and the lead singer/guitarist for CYNIC). but that doesn't take anything away from chuck...this guy is just ridiculously skilled. listen to animals as leaders and ask yourself if there was anything chuck ever did that tosin could not do...or do better.
@mobiusstrip01 All this sounds like is typical metalcore with an attempt to sound "progressive" or "technical." No, I don't think this guy is better than Chuck and he is by far a much less talented songwriter than Chuck. But I'm not going to argue with you. There's no point. You're not changing my mind and I'm not changing yours.
@trace632 i get why you would say that. that's why i wonder if you've seen/heard him completely in his element. this ain't it. animals as leaders IS. THAT is what i've based my opinion on. and i still stand by this: masvidal>chuck, no matter HOW MUCH i revere chuck as a guitarist and (BUT MOST) as songwriter.
@mobiusstrip01 I've listened to Animals As Leaders before and, yes, they are very good, both with songwriting and musically talented-wise, but there's something about having a vocalist that makes it easier for me to be totally interested in a band. And Chuck definitely has a great vocal style, considering no one really sounds like him.
@trentbrew24 If you gone on Ibanez.com and look up his interview with them, he says that while he was in Reflux he played by ear but at the time of the interview he was in school learning theory.
@TravuhsWree I'd put this in the hardcore genre, but metal vocals are not all similar in any respect. I have been playing metal for a lonnnnng time, and been through many styles of vocalists, and there are definitely those metal vocalists that rise above and beyond to create a sound that works with the music, but is legible. For instance, go look up Death. =) Chuck Schuldiner will speak harder than me. =)
@TravuhsWree These are NOT metal vocals. This is bullshit hardcore. If you really want to hear "metal vocals" I'll send you a list of bands, this crap sucks vocally imo. I listen to it for Tosin haha
@mwilhelmus Well, this is a metal band isn't it? Quite frankly, to me at least, metal vocals are all pretty similar, at least in that they all contain screaming/grumbling/whatever you might call it. Could be wrong though.
@mwilhelmus How is this bullshit hardcore? At least it's not just shredding and breakdowns. The genre is completely irrelevant, you should like something because you like it, not because of it's genre.

I checked these guys out because of Animals as Leaders, the vocalist is pretty meh but the music isn't terrible for metalcore... Tosin Abasi is a fucking destroyer on guitar.
