The alphas aren't always black. They aren't always the biggest either. I actually own a wolfhybrid that's mixed with husky. He's white with a black saddle and smaller than most but he's an alpha because of his hackles being a darker color when raised.

The alphas are the only ones allowed to mate to maintain a pack. A dominate dispute will start off with very little physical aggression unless the wolf trying to be alpha doesn't submit and show respect then they keep fighting sometimes it will end in death.

@Bloodyravenable Dogs don't have that large of teeth. If ANYTHING they're hybrid, which I likely doubt. Hybrids have a different build than dogs. I would highly suggest studying anatomy before going and commenting. <3
Wolf fights are a lot more noise and fur than actual pain and blood. Wolves gave a ver large social life and often fight in a way of showing their ranks in situations like this.
You can see the white wolfs tail is up high and he is towering over the black one starring him in the face. Its clear that he is in the Alpha rank and they are fighting for top male of the pack. Alphas carry their tail up high while the lower ranking ones (Omegas) carry their tail low.

The black one is trying to show dominance, in a zoo, when thing's are already settled, the pack made and then they put another wolf in the habitat, that causes outbreaks of violence. The white wolf is clearly trying to state point that he is a higher ranking.
The white wolf is higher in the pack rank and for some reason the dark wolf has overstepped his mark and and higher ranking wolf has put them in their place, you can see from the body movement and facial expressions that it is serious, but serious doesn't mean lethal in a wolf pack, very rarely will one even mark another in their own pack, except when others either in the pack or an outsider try to take over a alpha role (a male and female couple lead the pack).

you can tell my the way their tails are of whos more dominaint, the white wolf's tail shows that he/she is more dominaint then the black/brown wolf and the brown/black wolf's tail shows that he/she is being submissive.

obviously, the white wolf is probably the alpha male. The black one is a member of the pack that did something wrong. That caused the fight.

@Bloodyravenable Dogs don't have that large of teeth. If ANYTHING they're hybrid, which I likely doubt. Hybrids have a different build than dogs. I would highly suggest studying anatomy before going and commenting. <3

Wolf fights are a lot more noise and fur than actual pain and blood. Wolves gave a ver large social life and often fight in a way of showing their ranks in situations like this.

You can see the white wolfs tail is up high and he is towering over the black one starring him in the face. Its clear that he is in the Alpha rank and they are fighting for top male of the pack. Alphas carry their tail up high while the lower ranking ones (Omegas) carry their tail low.

@pokie4life I'm sorry but you are wrong, yes, Omega's tuck their tails in low but normally the Omega never challenges the Alpha. @inklecrinkle88 is more correct. The black one is trying to show dominance, in a zoo, when thing's are already settled, the pack made and then they put another wolf in the habitat, that causes outbreaks of violence. The white wolf is clearly trying to state point that he is a higher ranking.

The white wolf is higher in the pack rank and for some reason the dark wolf has overstepped his mark and and higher ranking wolf has put them in their place, you can see from the body movement and facial expressions that it is serious, but serious doesn't mean lethal in a wolf pack, very rarely will one even mark another in their own pack, except when others either in the pack or an outsider try to take over a alpha role (a male and female couple lead the pack).

@charischick Thanks, I adore animals, especially mammals whom live and hunt in groups, it shows understanding and cooperation, Simple things that humans often don't exhibit themselves. I have been reading info on animals like wolves, lions and other big predators since I could read and watching Documentary's since b4 I can remember :)

@inklecrinkle88 wow when i could first read all i would read was animal fact books. im curently reading the chornicals of anceant darkness series and it has helped me to learn the behavure habits and facts about wolves. im suprised anyone knew as much about mammels as i do :)

@inklecrinkle88 my best bet would be the dark wolf tried to mate with the alpha female. I live in calgary, i see these wolves all the time, they're mostly calm. that dark wolf did something really wrong. he either attacked the alpha, or tried to breed with his mate. im guessing the latter.

its not really a fight its more of a dominant thing. you can see the brown wolf has its tail inbetween its legs, meaning it knows its inferior. The white wolf on the other hand has its tail almost straight up, a sign of dominance.
