  • Thanx

  • THKZ ALOT it helpd me now i kno i gota write songs evryday.

  • How can you write a blues song without the 12 bar blues

  • Brad Paisley: "the most effective songs are the ones written about the small things in life, because they take on the most meaning."

  • nice thanks dude

  • Who writes like this? people write because they're feeling some kind of emotion. And they write with a purpose. There should't have to be a lesson taught on this. If your gonna teach a lesson teach how to put the intro chorus and verse together.. Pleaseee

  • @remo2012 hey dude you have to be the most inspiring man on youtube for me, i am 14 and 15 soon i know it may be a bit early to say this but thanks to you man i want to be a songwriter as my job when im older i know it might be stupid for this to be coming from a kid but just ignore those trolls who are moaning about your handwriting the important thing is that you have inspired people to start writing songs a very big thank you

  • All this information on the internet about songwriting is so complicated. I write poetry and put it to music. I've never thought about it at all, I just roll with it. Is it really this complicated? Where's Bob Dylan? I want to ask him, lol.

  • This is my theory: if it has to be analyzed, it's not worth it. If you have to go through a set of procedures and analyses to come up with a song, it's gonna suck. For me I write at least one song a day. I probably have written 30 songs in the past month. And guess what, 99% of them suck out loud. But the one or two songs that are good are really good. And those songs are the only ones that came naturally, you just have to write, don't think too much, write genuinely.

  • Hippy song

  • nice bay lololol

  • the chair scrape at 0:16 made me cringe

  • To the creators of the top two comments:

Fuck you, seriously. You don't need good handwriting if you're just jotting it down for personal use. And how the HELL do you /know/ that you're better? Can we see a video, perhaps? Handwriting isn't important. You can both go stamp an A+ on your english exams. Come back to the real world and see if you can stop nitpicking about bullshit and appreciate the fact that HE is trying to EDUCATE you the best he can.

  • the fuck kind of handwriting is that? are you an ADULT? WHO WENT TO COLLEGE? lol jk <----- jk

  • you misspelled always, sir. (i'm 11)

  • Did you really spell always wrong? You fucking retard...

  • I don't know you.. so I don't give a fuck....

  • That's just weak songwriting....you wrote a bad song.

  • OK another Tin Pan Alley. The domination bit. I am a musician and right songs, not a rocket science. most songs start of with, a chorus/catch/hook. Get a hit song and reset the words you got a song with your words. Move some sounds to bass and from bass to G clef (rearrange" and this and bit of that Major minor cords Dorian, Ionian, if piano or keyboard play CM on one hand and Am on the other tempo and +- some notations, you got your music. Get drunk /Shower/Toilet :) get a lyrics dictionary :)

  • i think this video is great man,i usually come up with a nice bunch of chords then record myself playing it saying lyrics off the top of my head to get the melody then i write it out and weed out the shitty parts.

@tjpirata - i think this video was simply demonstrating the process,i would assume that his songs have a bit more meat to them when they are finalized.

    great video man

  • Music first, lyrics second. That's the key to good songwriting

  • my 6-year-old cousin can write deeper lyrics than this shit

this guy's absolutely pathetic, and he's supposed to be a legend?

  • Thank you for your time to teach some of uf how to write a song by the way catchy... Nice day!

  • Thanks for taking the time to help other people. Sorry that the internet is full of assholes.

  • this is a good video. Very simple. straight to the point. So what the hand writing is not perfect we know what it says. Thanks for your time :)

  • labrinth 'let the sunshine' song comes to mind....

  • hahaha holy shit this is so funny what a fucking idiot

I also love "Herbet Midgley, the Internet Legend" and then he only has 3,241 veiws hahaha

someone please tell me this is a joke wow I actually can't stop

  • :´D I cried..... hahaha... thats soooo retarted.. Sorry, but... I mean.. Thats like the worst song i´ve ever heard... :D

I know the video shows how to write songs.. but whoa xD hahahahaha

  • lol this is retarded

  • i disagree with lyrics being most important in a song. allthough i admit great lyrics to a great melody can make magic, to me melody allways comes first.

  • @bjarnyg It's all opinion based. I'm one of those people where it can be the most boring song in the world, real simple, small changes, but if the lyrics are great it will be my favorite song.

  • That was awesome :) in just 10 mins lol, well I really like that saying "write out the bad" so Im a try that. Thank you!

  • i agree you need to pick the theme first that always seems to help the most

  • this is shite

  • starting out with a chorus........................

so that's why my songs suck xD

I only tried to write like two and i always get stuck on that part.....

  • it would be better if the first verse went somethning like wind in my face, it feels good, when im riding my bike, in my neighbour hood. but its good seeing as though you just made it up :P

  • Reminds me of a daniel johnston song.

  • well done ! takes me for ever to write one , took you just about 10 minutes ^^

  • next thing on your list of 'improvements that need to be made': your handwriting bro :p

  • hehe ur madass bro!!!! thnx for posting this!!! saved my life :p

  • WILL SOMEONE PLS TELL ME IF IM WRONG first get the theme then write the bass riffs then guitars then drums and vocals write last ...oh yea this is for lik rock or metal music

  • @XXlordofgrassXX

i start with guitar, then add drums, then write bass to the drums then put in vocals, but everyone is different, try a few different ways

  • @XXlordofgrassXX Whatever works for you man. If you like what comes out of your process, then keep it. If not change it up. To change it up, try writing the guitar part first, then vocals, then bass, then drums, or in another random order. : )

  • You're awesome thanks for these posts!

  • you make one really good point here in this vid, that should some one find them-self's struggling to complete a verse/chorus, because of a set of words that don't work, they should not fear changing those words, and to add please remember people there is always more than one way to say the same thing, some times all it needs is a dictionary, to find a similar meaning word, or metaphor etc!! dont fear spending time to mature a song!

  • You can write songs either way.

I usually write the lyrics first then say them as I play chords to come up with the melody.

  • @remo2012 I do that to I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that

  • @remo2012 Thanks for posting this video! It not only helped me, it really inspired me as well!

  • @remo2012 this is my third comment hehe :/ but again thank you man SO MUCH!!!! this 1 vid has inspired me i am actually writing my own song now

  • I have a question... When i write songs i usually write the guitar parts first then eventually i add lyrics to the guitar parts... should i make the lyrics first before the guitar parts? I already wrote the a song and the outcome was great but i dont feel like im doing it right?

  • there's no rule apparently its just suggested you write lyrics first so you can meter your words to a melody, plus you get the inherent meaning directly from lyrics,so you can match the lyric to the mood, like a sad lyric, would suggest a minor, but it can be done the other way round make the music and sing about what it feels, this is harder in some ways.

  • hmm interesting

  • never really tried writing music before, but believe me, i've certainly read music before.

  • I do both.

  • would you use a computer software program such as guitar pro to write songs? Or do you prefer to hand write it out by hand?

  • I think you got the important stuff down here, but you do miss one option, which differs slightly from my method. I tend to find the sound I want before writing lyrics, as I (personally speaking) find you can write songs to any sound much more easily, if you have a full idea of the chords you want to use in the first place.

  • ..feel free to give my stuff a listen etc.

  • Rock and roll!

  • you should make a parody of something

  • "Yes" is one of my favorite words. Love that Cat's Eyes guitar, too!
