  • My second dead show and little did I know then how good I had it..!!

  • Wow, really excellent version! - thnx 4 posting !!!!!!

Great road trip tune, as all their shows where... '77 was an excellent year of shows

  • The "Rock for Life" show at the Oakland Coliseum: I was blessed to see the Great wheel. Thank you!

  • Hey Mikeyphoto8...They were never know for there vocals, but the music;YES

  • Larry and Gitis

  • I loved the dead as much as anyone back then...but listening to this now, I realize that I must have been super high the whole time...because they sing really FLAT ! Sorry folks they just can't harmonize at all

  • Why do people dislike this? I need you folks to put down the sling blade some call it a kaiser blade.

  • coyote023:

My comment below was removed inappropriately. Just because you disagree with my criticism does not mean that my comment is spam. It isn't. The Wheel and the Terrapin are the only things of real merit in the show. Post-1972 one had to pick and choose from a given performance; true at the shows and now listening to tapes.

Just because you can't take the criticism, don't flag my post as offensive. Your attempt to censor is offensive, dude

  • This is incredible!

  • @brontis23 How is it you can call yourself a supposed'" GRATEFUL DEAD CONNISSEUR'' and say that the only good songs were terrapin and the wheel? Did you say this because they are the only 2 songs you have? What about the playin" that goes into the wheel? What about the WHOLE 2nd set? You listen to nothing after"77 ? I am sorry to have to tell you this but you are clearly not a so called""dead connoisseur" but what you are a ""connoisseur of the clueless".Nothing after "77 what a fool you are!!!

  • ((((2/26/77))))) Amazing show! I've uploaded a bunch of other songs from that night. Thanks for putting this up.

  • It seems the puddles all dried up and blew away. It was great when it was wet and wild. 76 bears..U were there...i saw U! Hint: Remember Aiko and the Vermont Reggae Freaks! Puddles and puddles...LOL

  • It seems the puddles all dried up and blew away. It was great when it was wet and wild. 76 bears..U were there...i saw U!

  • This was my first show, I was thoroughly impressed. Years later I would find out it was the night of the 1st Terrapin, 1st Estimated.

  • Love the 1977 Wheels....

  • I do not understand why people put this music on here without video, this show has been widely traded since the day after it was played. We thought we recorded it but at the end of the first set someone 4got to hit the pause button at the beginning of terrapin.Oh well things happen when puddles are present.

  • @coyote023 Because it 'sounds' good. People may not have heard it before and then decide to check out the rest of the show. At the time I put this on here there was only one live Wheel from a few years down the line, adds some contrast on here.

  • @johnny576375 It is a great show thanx for sharin'!

  • @johnny576375 keep em comin baby!!!

  • @coyote023 not everyone who wants to listen to the music has it on hand =P

I do.. but sometimes I just crave a specific song and would rather not have to bother going through my father's old tapes

  • @coyote023 BECAUSE IT SOUNDS GOOD DUDE . I DONT KNOW BOUT YOU DUDE BUT I WANNA HEAR

  • @coyote023 is the music not as good because its not a video?

  • Berdoo-Hells Angels....Sonny Barger.

  • Fuck the stats....I did.....Enjoy!

  • Happy Birthday Jerry!

  • love the help on the way teasers...

  • amazing show from start to ffin

  • ya cant go back n ya cant stand still if tha thunder dont getcha then tha lightin' will !

  • Thanks for the post. Just think how much more awesome without Donna this would be! Boooo Donna

  • @steelcity1017 Hells yeah. I keep wishing some tech genius would come up with a program that would just remove Donna from every recording...

  • @steelcity1017

right on - Donna was can spoil the best of songs

  • Have this show, Amazing ! sound quality recorded from the sound deck.

I am looking for other shows that were recorded off the sound board, Any suggestions ?

  • @jzart go to archive[dot]org . tons of recordings, both audience and soundboard

  • Lot's of Angels at this show..will never forget it. They were cool but I was 22.

  • Love the Wheel so keep it turning folks

  • Donna sounds great here.

  • i love this tune

  • the version of this tune on Jerry's 1st solo album - i wish someone would post it here

I have to dig that old album out and digitalize it when i can afford to.

  • I like this kind of country music...

  • This ain't your grandma's country music...

  • BOUND to cover just a little more ground...

  • Yes Jerry being sick led to the famous headline of 1978 "Dead Singer Ill".

If the thunder don't get you the lightning will.

  • paulbunyan...where can i find the rest of this show?

  • love you jerry

  • everyone MUST listen to the rest of this show 2/26/77. The first set opens with the first terrapin station EVER and the first ESTIMATED ever, IN THE FIRST SET! You know what to do..

  • Very true. The Playing > Wheel > Playing is superb. Playing just kinda melts into this song. Awesome.

  • @PaulBunyan56 Epic status given for it's intro-bust-out count and gravity alone.

  • Those early-77 Wheels were among the best versions the band ever did. Love the Orpheum 76 one too. Slow, mystical, and powerful. Fox Theater from the Spring tour 77 is possibly the champ.

  • donna jean consistently horrible

  • Comment removed

  • so fully agree with you man

  • prototype of wheel

  • Whoa, the beat/goove of this Wheel is sooooooooooo wrong, the '90's version of this song is so much more mystical, powerful and serious sounding. This Wheel is too goofy for me.

  • thedankshow, it was a bad swap: keith and donna when pippen took seriously ill. theshows were never the same without piggie, who played an interesting organ that filled a lot of spacemusically

  • sorry, friends bit this is one that should be played off the vinyl; the production and layers of guitar and pedal steel are missing and replaced by the shrieking voice of donna godchaux- no thanks on this one

  • i cant stand donna jean godchaux. she ruined alot of good GD tunes

  • see comment below

  • holy shit! The Wheel!!!

  • Thank you for sharing this, I really needed to hear this, this morning. Amazing how you can hear something a thousand times and never really get it. Very humbling and inspiring. thanks again for making the efforts to share this. "love is gentle, love is kind".

  • i appreciate your noble cause my friend, but please don't mix somthing so dreadful as that with the music, i really was enjoying the song until i read this and then i was just sad after that. the word does need to be spread, but dont mix somthing so perfect with somthing so horrible,

  • small wheel turn by the fire and rod, big wheel turn by the grace of god....

    JERRY WAS BUILT TO LAST

  • I think I was at this show. Isn't this the one where Jerry had laryngitis and the rest of the band picked up the slack??? Too many years gone by blur the specifics.

  • Jerry had it at Swing on January sixth '78 I believe.

  • Jerry had laryngitis at Capitol in November 1978.

  • @76bearsfly I saw them in San Diego at Golden Hall around that time and Bobby said Jerry was going to sing with his guitar. Right on..........

  • @76bearsfly San Diego Jerry had "larngitis" and Bob sang all the songs....Jerry sang with his guitar.....................Garcia later

  • round, round, robin run around

gotta get back to where you belong

    :)) love it

  • 2/26/77- love this show, one of my top 20 (if not 10).

  • Hell of a show, favourite Terrapin.

  • Hello Johnny-- thanks for the help in putting my chronological memory back together. Lots of gaps and blurs. All have one thing in common: the Dead. Cheers, Steve

  • @johnny576375

Hells yeah. first Terrapin. Day i was born.

  • dana sounds amazing in this one, i think this is the only video were the dead play the song
