I loved the dead as much as anyone back then...but listening to this now, I realize that I must have been super high the whole time...because they sing really FLAT ! Sorry folks they just can't harmonize at all
My comment below was removed inappropriately. Just because you disagree with my criticism does not mean that my comment is spam. It isn't. The Wheel and the Terrapin are the only things of real merit in the show. Post-1972 one had to pick and choose from a given performance; true at the shows and now listening to tapes.
Just because you can't take the criticism, don't flag my post as offensive. Your attempt to censor is offensive, dude
I'm a Dead connoisseur (listen to no Dead after 77) and I congratulate you on choosing this track. This Wheel, and jam out of, along with the show-opening Terrapin are the (only) 2 real gems from this show. They are two of the very best tracks from this, the Dead's last, good year. But I agree with the other poster: it's frustrating to see this listed and believe for a moment that it was caught on video.
@brontis23 How is it you can call yourself a supposed'" GRATEFUL DEAD CONNISSEUR'' and say that the only good songs were terrapin and the wheel? Did you say this because they are the only 2 songs you have? What about the playin" that goes into the wheel? What about the WHOLE 2nd set? You listen to nothing after"77 ? I am sorry to have to tell you this but you are clearly not a so called""dead connoisseur" but what you are a ""connoisseur of the clueless".Nothing after "77 what a fool you are!!!
It seems the puddles all dried up and blew away. It was great when it was wet and wild. 76 bears..U were there...i saw U! Hint: Remember Aiko and the Vermont Reggae Freaks! Puddles and puddles...LOL
I do not understand why people put this music on here without video, this show has been widely traded since the day after it was played. We thought we recorded it but at the end of the first set someone 4got to hit the pause button at the beginning of terrapin.Oh well things happen when puddles are present.
@coyote023 Because it 'sounds' good. People may not have heard it before and then decide to check out the rest of the show. At the time I put this on here there was only one live Wheel from a few years down the line, adds some contrast on here.
everyone MUST listen to the rest of this show 2/26/77. The first set opens with the first terrapin station EVER and the first ESTIMATED ever, IN THE FIRST SET! You know what to do..
Those early-77 Wheels were among the best versions the band ever did. Love the Orpheum 76 one too. Slow, mystical, and powerful. Fox Theater from the Spring tour 77 is possibly the champ.
Whoa, the beat/goove of this Wheel is sooooooooooo wrong, the '90's version of this song is so much more mystical, powerful and serious sounding. This Wheel is too goofy for me.
thedankshow, it was a bad swap: keith and donna when pippen took seriously ill. theshows were never the same without piggie, who played an interesting organ that filled a lot of spacemusically
sorry, friends bit this is one that should be played off the vinyl; the production and layers of guitar and pedal steel are missing and replaced by the shrieking voice of donna godchaux- no thanks on this one
Thank you for sharing this, I really needed to hear this, this morning. Amazing how you can hear something a thousand times and never really get it. Very humbling and inspiring. thanks again for making the efforts to share this. "love is gentle, love is kind".
Live Wheel is rare...btw... I'm raising awareness about the Chinese Communist Party persecution of 70 million Falun Gong spiritual practitioners going on for 10 years in China. They are put in slave-labor camps, forced to make stuff sold here. A 2009 UN report said vital organs are even taken from them and sold on the black market. Falun Gong practitioners are peaceful, not terrorists. China is a country where all the jobs are going, remember? The media doesn't cover it, so I will. Thanks.
i appreciate your noble cause my friend, but please don't mix somthing so dreadful as that with the music, i really was enjoying the song until i read this and then i was just sad after that. the word does need to be spread, but dont mix somthing so perfect with somthing so horrible,
I think I was at this show. Isn't this the one where Jerry had laryngitis and the rest of the band picked up the slack??? Too many years gone by blur the specifics.
Hello Johnny-- thanks for the help in putting my chronological memory back together. Lots of gaps and blurs. All have one thing in common: the Dead. Cheers, Steve

Very true. The Playing > Wheel > Playing is superb. Playing just kinda melts into this song. Awesome.
