@johnnyboygeek A friend of mine plays clarinet, oboe, flute, trumpet and sax. He plays clarinet for marching band in school, and oboe for orchestra outside of school. He's amazing at both, I wish I could play clarinet the way he does. I play clarinet for marching band and I'm starting private lessons for it, and going to join the orchestra my friend is in. So, my point to this is, if you want to learn more than one instrument, you can, don't feel bound to the clarinet, though it's awesome =)

YES this is a TRUE STORY!!! Chester's story is incredible....he was discovered by the SDSU players, walked on, started every game the year he walked on and was drafted...INCREDIBLE! He is one of the nicest people I have had the privledge of working with and is an amazing example to others around him. I was so excited to see his commercial as I was sitting at the Super Bowl in Arizona! Great Job Chester!

It's not an easy instrument in the sense of tuning. It's the 3rd hardest next to French Horn and bassoon. (I'm not including stringed instruments, I don't know their level of difficulties...)

I'm going to weigh in on the oboe/not-oboe debate here. After listening for awhile and consulting my score for Brandenburg No. 2 I think that during the orchestral part the melody is actually played by three different instruments at various parts of the commercial--Oboe, violin, and trumpet.

Dear yoadrian20, I don't know exactly what you clean your ears with, but as another professional oboe player I clearly recognize this as an Oboe with an "american" (long-scrape) reed. They've mixed his playing with a recording of the piece which includes a trumpet with unison with the oboe in all the tutti parts, because that's the way Bach wrote it. You'd have known that if you had recognized the piece (Brandenburg Concerto No.2, first movement)

What you're hearing is the orchestral accompaniment as well, so it doesn't sound as much like the oboe is there and the music is softer so it's harder to tell what is playing. In the solo bits, it is the oboe, it just alternates with and without accompaniment. It's probably an excerpt from an oboe concerto. Technically, you're ALL wrong, so stop giving yoadrian20 a hard time when you're not hearing everything either.
