  • Equalizer shouldn't have random crits. Why? Because the faster movement speed makes it superior.

    1. You can run away from the battlefield to health packs and then run back to the battlefield.

    2. It's so damn hard to hit to a super fast soldier that tries to melee you with equalizer. Also, most of the classes don't have automatic weapon to be able to kill kamikaze equalizer soldier before it's too late.

    3. It's so fucking powerful even without the crits (when low hp)

  • The Direct Hit is for soldier frags and the Rocket Launcher is credit to the team. You kill only one with direct hit, now the rocket launcher can kill many enemies same time. So, that's why Rocket Launcher is superior.

  • Speaking from being a medic as my second played class, I despise the equalizer. Mostly because most soldiers don't realize it blocks the medic healing you, and causes me to get alot of shit thrown at me.

    If you have a medic, dont bloody use it.

    Pros: Can kill anything, makes Soldier stronger and faster and has the most LOL taunt of the game.

    Cons: Can't be haeled when it's OUT (not even equipped)

  • If you use the equilizer at full health, the max damage a non-crit hit can do is 38. I prefer the shovel, because it keeps a steady 60-80 damage, basiclly killing 7/9th's of all enemys in two hits.

  • @mercifulming the point is, a soldier can't be taken alive. and the equalizer is suposed to be used only when your low on health, so instead of dying you go with a bang.

    Thats not really true, as far as scout goes. Scout is my main, and I have to say I loved this update. So many DH soldiers that can't aim the thing properly, and at any rate the rockets are fairly easy to dodge in the first place. The biggest problem I had with the original RL was the irritating splash damage, and because the DH takes that away, it is so easy to dodge rockets now.

  • I know how to nerf the Direct Hit... :D It's a pretty drastic nerf that will make others think about using the normal rocket launcher....

    How about, per se, NO CRITICAL HITS?? 8)

  • actually, the direct hit is UNDERUSED. I've seen relatively little of the DH since launch, and far more regular RLs. At anyrate, crits on regular RL is worse, cuz of the splash damage. crits on DH's don't really do much other then completely annihilate a firing heavy.

  • people! stop saying with demoman and soldier updates they let you run faster than scout or as fast because you dont run faster or as fast because that would defeat the perpose of the scout gosh

  • A lot of you have been saying that the weapon is overpowered because it does an insane amount of damage when the user has almost no hp.

    However, if you have 10 hp, you can also die from just one hit. Any class with an automatic weapon shouldn't have trouble with it.

    it still sounds op considering that the guy youve been fighting with has probably took some damage from your rockets leaving him at 10 hp, so just pull out the equalizer, run straight towards him at 60 mph dodging all his shots, and 1 shot! Boom!

    I agree. Also, it basically has the same effect as crit-o-cola for scout. If you use it (or in this case CAN use it), it's just as easy for them to kill you as it is you to kill them. And I see the run speed increase mainly as something you can use to run away.

  • @JulesBondTF2 BUT the Direct Hit is a bit annoying when using any classes with less that 150hp! Expecially when using a scout, going around the corner and *BAM* one hit kill.

    Now i don't want to say "THE DH IS UNFAIR" or "THE DH SUCKZ", however maybe Valve has to reduce a little the damage at melee range, so that you have at least a chance to survive!

I think it's op because it's actually clearly better than any other option, it doesn't even really have a con to using it.

  • Equaliser when you are below 25 hp can do up too 450 damage in a single hit....

    Direct Hit, surprisingly, is not for getting direct hits on stuff. It's more for shooting from far away. Close up, you can't splash multiple people with it.

  • I thought "legit" players were all about having good enough aim, timing, and foresight to airjuggle their opponents with the rocket launcher. The Direct Hit rewards those players.

    If you think that the normal rocket launcher is superior to the Direct Hit, it's because you can't aim.

  • @ChevyJakson True, and because many good players are fantastic with the direct hit, they don't use it often because professional players have decided to ban it for its overpoweredness, aswell as the equalizer.

    The normal rocket launcher has its uses over the direct hit. For instance taking out a player / medic combo with the splash radius. Or just taking out more than 1 person in general. And of course using the splash against walls where the enemy can't see you. Oh yeah and using the splash to take down sentries from peeking behind corners. Sheer damage and speed isn't everything.

    Thats a fair point. however the splash damage of the bazooka is good also..i have killed multiple enemys with it. The direct hit couldnt do that. Both are good in diffrent situations its simple as that.

  • @ChevyJakson But the Direct Hit loses long jump and wall jump capabilities along its blast radius. I would use it, but I cant see how to play soldier without being able to jump fast and high.

  • @Stormeris Oh yeah, I realized a few days ago, I was just too slow turning around with the DH. The rocket always hit the floor before the time I thought was the best for the jump. Silly me.

  • @ChevyJakson Well, to be fair, you can't do anything to people around corners with the direct hit. And seeing as that is the best way to deal with heavies/sentries, the only weapon in TF2 that is almost always used instead of any other weapon is the equalizer. All others are preference.

  • equalizer is not really overpowered, it hit really weak as soldier got full health, also if you got lover than 30 health, the enemy can see as your speed, so they can kill you just one shot by weak weapon. also this weapon actuality effective when you got 1hp, but with 1 hp you will cannot run so a long.

  • its fun that if you were the gunboats and do the equalizer taunt you don't die, you only take damage and then you rocket into the sky. Killed a pyro that way :D

  • 1. Do the achievements. Achievements server if you feel like cheating.

    2. just play and you may find them, Idle server if you cant wait.

  • 20 achievements of 35 will get you the goods. Go to achievement server and get busy. The gunboats are "I believe" an automatic since soldiers won the war.

  • equilizer is not OP...

    if you see a soldier running with it out just spray him with some low damage weapon and he'll be dead.

    That being said, it's better than shovel for sure.

  • Yeah, pyros are pro against charging demos (eyelander & targe) or soldiers (equalizer).

    The same argument goes to:

    Bonesaw vs Ubersaw (Ubersaw > Bonesaw for sure, who do you see use bonesaw anymore? Yet ubersaw is not OP)

    Blutsauger > Needlegun yet it is not OP either

    OP means it becomes unfair for someone to use it. Which does not imply equalizer is OP by saying it is better than the shovel.

  • Yeah. It also makes the most sense if you explode a grenade in your hand, and you do not survive.

    It explodes in a huge radius.

    Does it? 'Cause from what I can tell, the Gunboats only protect you from self damage when you're in the air. I've shot rockets at my feet on the ground and taken 50 dmg, but when I jump and shoot a rocket at the ground, I only take 11 dmg from the splash.

    I don't think it does. At least that's never happened to me. I have the Gunboats, and they don't protect me when I do the suicide taunt.

  • Herp, derp, I'm an idiot. Sorry, I just played TF2 after a week long hiatus and they do actually protect you from instant death. It now does ~64 damage.

  • @tom935 The Pyro's shotgun/flare gun taunt is lethal, the heavy's quick draw (fist) taunt is lethal and the spy's knife taunt is lethal, the huntsman taunt is lethal. As you can see plenty of taunts can kill.
