Don't worry about it!!! Robert is more alive and kickin' than ever, living on the east coast and still still bringing down the house with his band, The Sky. They have several videos on YouTube and Facebook, too. Check them out at: THE SKY OFFICIAL.COM, or on Facebook! Their debut album comes out in November-December (2011). Their newest video (posted on their wall on Facebook) ROCKS! You can't miss this one!
Wow! It's amazing what you can find on You tube. Early Pre Steve Perry Journey. I was at this concert I was just 14 years old. I also got to see Styx with Tommy Shaw's first tour with the band. I remember Dennis DeYoung introduced him as the new kid from Alabama and he did a pretty amazing guitar solo. I went out and bought a Styx and Journey album the next day.
Robert was amazing in journey at the beginning.! I wish he had stayed in the band. The other singers were really good too. But robert had this raw energy that was just totally unique.
Hey Bob, jajajajaja. Definitely Ross looks better and younger on the Evolution and theDeparture Tour than on the first albums and than this tour (Next Tour).
Damn!!! I luvvvvvv this song. This is the groovin-est tune Journey ever had. Early Journey was at the top of their game.I wish this line up could have existed longer. Steve P. is one of my fav vocalists of all time but this sound hits me in that special spot, .....If you know what I mean.
Holy Shit! Journey used to have some fuckin balls with Robert Fleischman! This is real hard rock. Funky and Nasty the way rock n roll was meant to be. They look like rock n rollers here too. Now they look like FAGS. I guess all those years of playing watered down pop to please a suck ass record label can do that to an ass kickin rock band!! LONG LIVE TRUE ROCK N ROLL. LETS GET BACK TO THE REAL THING. All in favor say "I".
But I would be willing to bet that, had Robert stayed with Journey, they would have definitely gone down a different path. Maybe more of a Rush-type prog rock band?
Hell, this sounds a lot like early Rush (or maybe early Rush sounds like this version of Journey according to the Time3 liner notes). And that's not a bad thing, just different than what came to pass...
all I have to say is why as Robert says in the video did this never appear on Infinity. it is a godly track, truly a mighty beast, what a groove, and what a voice this guy has. wow
Damn! That's a kick ass song! Too bad it didn't make it on to Infinity. Of course, Fleishman had a more ballsy singing style, so maybe Perry was too lightweight to pull it off. But Diva is one hell of a great song!
if he was the new lead singer in this video then, who was before him? can anybody enlighten me here? what's the chronological order? if i may ask.. rolie, Fleichsman, perry, augeri, soto, penida... am i ryt?
@antonc2k3 Gregg Rollie was the lead singer of Journey 1973-1977, the co-lead 1977-1980.
Problem was, 1973-1977, Gregg and the boys preferred instrumentals/long jams to singing,
and Gregg sure as hell didn't want to be a front man, shimmying on the stage as Robert Fleischman does here.
Also, 1973-1977, Journey was a Jazz-Fusion outfit (aka, no record sales), and the label wanted Journey to make some mainstream rock hits (a power voice), which really wasn't Gregg's M.O.
Herbie Herbert ousted Fleischman for Perry. Journey wouldn't have gotten to where they got w/o Perry. But look at the difference in this Journey as compared to what they now play with their new lead singer. A huge difference. Just look at Schon and his playing. Today his playing on every album sounds the same. Back then they we're willing to go outside the box, but today they're comfortable because, after all, it's just about the money. It is a shame that they settled for pop sappy rock.
It's not "all about the money." However it is about keeping a balance between commercial and artistic success. These guys could have continued to record whatever they wanted, but if it's not profitable, no record company is going to keep them. While I personally prefer the music before Steve Perry, I also recognize the talents of all the guys who have been in this band, and I respect the tough business decisions that have been made to enable these guys to keep recording and performing.
been a early journey fan for years knew nothing about this guy whatsoever, i can see why they got rid of him for perry.i recently read an interview with neal schon where he basically disowned my favourite 2 journey albums, look into the future and next, it would be nice to see something such as hustler,i would find you etc,etc-great song writing playing
Why did thet ever get rid of this guy!! He sounds great.Better fit in there song writing and vocals than Perry.Robert there are still hardcore Journey fans from back in the day that know the real deal.
I worked with Robert's son, and he didn't believe I was such a fan - Fleishman had a hell of a voice and great presence and delivery. This is one of my favorite music videos on YouTube. I want a bootleg "Infinity" w/ Fleishman cd.
A lot of you guys just don't get it. If it weren't for Robert these guys would have been fired from the label back in the 70's. To compare Robert, Perry, Augeri & Soto is just idiotic because they are apples & oranges. If this band would have some good songwriting today they wouldn't have to keep alive as the karaoke band that they are. A band with any merit can keep up with the times and continue to produce hit music. They should be ashamed of themselves.
I couldn't agree more, siksuzie. I don't think that Journey ever had a bad frontman, I like every one of them. Robert just so happens to be my personal favorite.
Robert did the original Infinity album and some guy in Japan was selling bootleg tracks with RF instead of Perry, but someone got to this person before I did.
What a shame. I would have loved to have a copy for myself and I would have shared them if Robert gave permission. Any ideas of other songs he did with Journey not listed here?
This smokes. Much better than the demo version in the box set. If you like this and want to hear what Fleischman really could do when taken off his leash, check out the 1st Vinnie Vincent Invasion album. He had too much muscle for Journey, and its easy to see why Perry, much less threatening and chick- friendly, was brought in to replace him. Too bad Fleischman didn't treat us to at least one studio outing with Journey.
If journey had kept this fellow they would've remained a rock band instead of turning into a mushy adult contemporary imitation rock band with steve perry.

Thumbs up!! More incredible footage of Pre-Perry Journey. I wonder if they attempted to have Perry sing this one in the early days.

I don't understand why Journey did not put this song on the Infinity album. One of the best song from the early pre-Perry years. I love this song!!.
