  • i'm a die hard red sox fan always have been always will be. but with the exception of field of dreams this is my favorite baseball movie

  • Ill make this short and sweet, bonds and mcgwire were on steroids witch to me tainted the record, so Roger Maris is for me the home run record holder period

  • the record should go back to maris!

  • I'd Hate to say this but.... Roger Maris was a better ball player than Mickey, I mean Mickey was so Determined and Focused and full of power, but Maris also had all that, Mickey did so many Drugs especially and he drank so much! Mickey is still my favorite Player, but it makes me sad because of t he bad decisions he made.. R.I.P. Roger and Mickey :( I am Determined as much as you guys were to become better and compete. :)

  • Probably my favorite movie

  • @BIockbusterz Mr. 3000

  • SEX

  • How many films are out there on the Yankees?

    61* (2001)

Bronx is Burning (2007 I think)

    The Babe (1992)

Joe Torre's 1996 yankees film (forgot the name)

    Film based on Lou Gerigh.

  • @gfscarface13 the Lou Gerigh is Pride of the Yankees but I don't remember the 1996 Yankees Film, Ill have to find it.

  • Great Baseball Film.

  • Roger Maris is such a good guy i was reading those chicken soup for the soul books the sports version. And it just tells about Maris being such a nice guy who was really nice to his fans. And he became best friends with this kid that he barely knew at all.

  • Perfect casting in this film.

  • its the sniper from Saving Private Ryan

  • @UKBasketball123 PRIVATE JACKSON TO THE WIN!

  • The problem with this movie is the Mark Maguire crap at the beginning and end. The rest is great.

  • Most underrated baseball movie ever made. This is a classic that should be right up there with the greats

  • @bleedblue62 I agree, a really good film. Something that must be watched ESPECIALLY during the season. An Instant Classic. I mean historically Crystal made ONE minor error, that being a player being with the team when he didn't start the season with the team, intead being with the Angels, but was traded to the Yankees later. Being a Toronto guy through and through, and part of the majority that thinks New York buys the playoffs through their players yearly, the Yankee thing was eh but still good

  • Some one repost the movie, other guys video's got taken down for bullshit reasons -.-

  • Maris STILL HOLDS the record. Period.

  • @sparkio79- Hey remember that scene when Roger was kinda scolding Mickey for not taking care of himself and says "Your Mickey Mantle for Christs Sake". then Mickey jumps up and says "What the hell is that suppose to Mean". Do you wonder, if any exchange really went on between the two of them like that in private?

  • HEY WAT THE SINE WERE CHIP ESTEN OR CHARLES ESTEN APPERED ????

  • @KarAniel1990 you're off base. Black and Hispanic players were playing in 1961. The roster for the 1961 team for the NYY included names like Luis Arroyo (pitcher) and Elston Howard (African American catcher). Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947 and Roberto Clemente first donned a Pirates uniform in 1955.

  • @sparkio79 what a racist jerk... I mean seriously, it shouldn't matter about race, creed, or colour. It's just Baseball, a sport, no denomination of anything, and the truest universal sport from white, black, hispanic, asian, native, w/e. No other sport has that, not truly. So just let the game be what it is.

  • @sparkio79 pwned

  • @KarAniel1990 red sox fan much

  • @KarAniel1990 let me ask a question what do you think willie mays hank arron are,the fact of the matter is even in todays game there are not any big time names of the black or hispanic, and they are the majority of the game today.I cant think of a pitcher of any color with the stats of kofax ryan .....

  • @harajukugirlloveandG

Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Alex Rodriguez are pretty big names of Hispanic heritage

Ryan Howard, CC Sabathia, Prince Fielder big names of African American heritage

Bob Gibson has comparable stats to Ryan and Koufax

  • @KarAniel1990 why do you say that there were plenty black hispanic players back then they just were not that good??

  • @KarAniel1990 Racist much? No player since Mantle, white / black / hispanic or whatever has EVER hit HRs as far as Mantle did (and all natural I might add to boot)!!! Bonds longest HR doesnt hold a candle to some of Mantles historic blasts and he did it on one leg practically.

  • @KarAniel1990 Caps make you look like an asshole when your point is fucking mute these days.

  • Comment removed

  • @KarAniel1990

i dont kno how u can say that. hank aaron, willie mays, frank robinson, clemete and others were already established stars in 1961. and still rank among the best players ever to play the game

  • i remember i was playing a 1030 little league game and my dad made his special eggs and i got the game ball for that game

  • Roger Maris, the true single season homerun champion, belongs in the Hall of Fame. Please right that wrong.

  • amazing movie, i like when mickey sits there in the hospital yelling at bob to move the TV antenna so he can watch roger hit that homer

  • the lat good sports movie

  • Roger Maris is still the single season home run King.....screw all the steroid cheaters

  • I'm a Cubs fan and this is one of the best baseball movies ever! Rodger should still hold the record. Not only do steroid users get to keep their records, they get to continue their careers. That's total horse s**t and pete rose gets banned for betting on himself not against himself like those pannsey 1919 black sox.

  • I remember that summer distinctly. It seems like every day either Mickey or Roger would hit one out. It was incredible. And it's not like I was a Yankee fan. I lived in Chicago. But what a great time.

  • Best baseball movie ever! A must buy for any Yankee fan!

  • @davidd320 I'm NOT a Yankee fan. But I thought the movie was great. I'm a baseball fan. I was 10 that memorable summer.

  • look at the bomb mick hits on 1:32

  • I'm not even a Yankee fan, but I respect their history and greatness, and this is the best baseball movie I've ever seen. Simply amazing in every aspect. I'm a Cardinals fan who loved the summer of '98 (at that time) but based on what we know now, I believe Roger Maris should still be the single season home run record holder.

  • I love this movie even though im a Red Sox fan

  • this movie will always hold a special place of joy in my heart

  • I've got the Topps '61 #300 Mantle card :)

  • great fuckin movie. great fuckin movie

  • hei i cant find the movie by the name 61 :( can you send me another name pleasE?

  • @juanpablo2010 61* you got to have the * on it.

  • I'm a younger Yankee fan. 25 years old . . I wanted to Puke after watching Maguire and Sosa hug . . how fake and disrepectfull not only to the greatest record in all of sports . . but to Roger Maris himself

  • Roger Maris is my 4th distant cousin and its just bullshit how he isnt in the Hall of Fame and when he played in his own Ballpark he got booed and things thrown at him also his record should stand today everyone after him took steroids.

  • @RaiderNation4Life72 Everyone? Yeah right, Dont exagerate dude. You make yourself sound stupid.

  • @RaiderNation4Life72

sorry dude but maris is not hall of fame worthy. he had a few good years but is not hall of fame material.

  • Love this movie!

  • Roger Maris is the single season home run king.

  • I liked 61* and definitley the featurette by Billy Crystal on the DVD of the movie.

  • See my channel for full movie

  • i love maris i'm just like fuck it with all this steroid shit but the clear that the stuff that made u superman and help your hand eye coordination and steroids make u stronger but maris is the king and bonds should be bared from baseball

  • I am a Cardinals fan and a McGwire fan, but I agree the record still belongs to Roger Maris!

  • LOVE this movie! lets go yankees that record is your rog! McGuire don't deserve it!

  • Viva Roger Maris. The true home run king!!!!

  • God bless you Roger. You are still the true homerun king. Baseball misses gentlemen like you. *Loved the movie*

  • i love roger maris !!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Goober New Yorkers.. MM was from Oklahoma... is that really any more NYish than North Frickin' Dakota?

If you're gonna be stupid like that, I have one suggestion: stop being American. Go back to Italy, or Ireland, or Czechoslovakia, or wherever the hell you came from before your grandfather landed on Ellis.

  • my gym teacher brian osborn was the catcher for this movie

  • @corunnafootball101 So he played Yogi??

  • no catcher for another team i think he might of

  • BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!

  • This is a fantastic movie. Even someone not interested in baseball can like a film like that. It's a human story before being a sport story.

  • Stunning Film.

  • Great film one of my Yankee favorites

  • I think im in love with this movie =)

    billy crystal = GREAT DIRECTOR

  • somebody know where i can get this film

  • Amazon, eBay...anywhere they sell DVDs

  • @veris01. I actually found this movie on dvd at wal mart in the 5 dollar bin section but that was over a year ago. i don't recall ever seeing it for sale anywhere else. you may want to try the hbo web site or call them and ask if they still offer it for sale, they do afterall own the rights. goodluck

  • Was this the music they used in the 2008 and 09 all-star games? I cant rmemeber

  • It wasn't America it was just New York.

If Roger Maris played for another city.

He would have been more popular than Mantle.

  • great choice on the actors

    a great movie too

    good idea for a movie

  • Hey sparkio79, remember when Mickey's eating Roger's special eggs, and Bob Cerv's clipping his toenails while Roger's ranting about the bs press he's getting, then Cerv clips a toenail into the eggs?

  • LOL that was hilarious! Or when Mickey's talking to his wife "No! There ain't no girls here! Just Roger in a girly apron!"

  • @sparkio79 I was born in 1998

  • @sparkio79 lol

    I love this movie!

  • @sparkio79 love that part

  • @sparkio79 Say hi Bob...Hi Bob

  • What was the song where in the movie maris and that other guy were whistling to that song on TV?

  • The theme to the Andy Griffith Show?

  • It´s a great movie and definitely worth watching it!!!

  • I got to watch this movie.

Man, just seeing the trailer for it makes me miss the Old Yankee Stadium. :-(

  • Comment removed

  • love this movie and its only $5.00 new ..totally worth it.

i dont think there could have been any diffrent actor to have played the Mick and Harris. Pepper and Jane look damn close to them.

  • can someone please download this movie please its a great baseball movie

  • Shot at Tiger Stadium. 0:33.

  • To me this is the greatest baseball movie ever made! Billy hit one out of the park on this one. I have watched it scores of times.

  • @firesprinklers I agree. My favorite baseball movie.

  • yeah not to mention it happened in 1961

  • why is the name of the movie ''61''

  • Because the movie is about Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle's quest to break Babe Ruth's longstanding home run record of 60 homeruns in one season. 61 home runs would beat that record. The asterisk after it, 61*, is because the record was questioned by baseball honchos due to a longer season than what Ruth set his in.

  • 61 was the number of home runs Maris hit in 1961 which broke Babe Ruth's previous record of 60 in a single season. It has since been passed up by enhanced guys like McGwire (70), Sosa (66 I think), and Bonds (73).

  • @d3p7my98cc Not only that the season this happened was the 1961 season

  • @d3p7my98cc Also because the year Maris broke Ruth's record was 1961. 61 home runs in '61.

  • maris is the best:)...croatian power:D

  • man every time i watch this movie im like this movie is great

    i love this movie

  • Why won't they elect Roger Maris in the Hall of Fame? He deserves to be there!

  • I tell you who DOESNT deserve it ??

    MARK MAGUIRE

  • You're 100% correct! Also, when it comes his time, Barry Bonds shouldn't be there either!

  • You mean the best druggie hitter, :P

  • Easy for many people to say. But do you know where baseball would be right now had it not been for the summer of 98?

  • @jlfahrer Baseball would be more respected now if it hadn't been for '98 and all the b.s. that followed regarding steroids, HGH, all the accusations, suspicions, tainted records.

  • A lot of it has to do with career longevity and minimum hits. I don't think there's any HOFer with less than 1500 hits. He also had less than 300 HR and 1000 RBI. That 4 year run where he made the All-Star team, won 2 MVPs and 1 Gold Glove was the highlight of his career. I DO agree Maris should be in don't get me wrong. But there will be arguments about other guys with similar numbers that should be in. Maris deserves the exception though.

  • Certainly Roger's good character has prompted many to want him to be elected to the Hall Of Fame. He seemed like the most humble down to earth guy you could wish to meet. But he was right; NY is not for everybody. I live here, I know! He had a span of 6 or 7 really good years with a GREAT year in between. Same with Munson, guys like that. I'll be going to the Hall on Monday by the way. I'll say hi to Roger for y'all.

  • @NYVoice Munson should be in the HOF, Maris too. And this coming from a Yankee hater. Actually though, it's Steinbrenner that I hate, and prima donnas like ARod. The '61 yankees are one of my favorite teams of all time.

  • @packfan1999 WERE THOSE CHARLEY ESTEN APPEREC ON THE MOVIE

  • I watched this movie when I was 11 years old. I'm 16 now and I know every single line of this movie. I'm totally in love with this movie!

This is my greatest movie of all time! <3

  • My sub teacher was the main guy in this movie

  • does any1 have this movie?

  • This is one of my fav. baseball movies!!! :D

  • This movie is more than just two great baseball players and a grate team it also shows how people are fuck up in the world.

  • i love the song that stars at 54 i want to know the name of it and it gos to 1:16

  • Not just my favorite baseball movie, but I think it might be one of my favorite movies of all-time.

  • Partially fimled in old Tiger Stadium, Detroit, MI.

  • my friend thomas durantes grandpa sal durante caught that homer and u can look it up idf u want im not kiddin and ahe was only 19

  • Does he still have the ball?

  • noo they didnt let him keep it type in sal durante on google imiges ull see some stuff

  • la mejor pelicula de

    baseball qe e visto

  • I think this is the best baseball movie of all time.

And it shows Roger Maris to a generation that grew up never seeing him play. There was nothing in my 57 years like the 1961 NY Yankees. I just wish I could go back in time and see them play in person ... Mantle, Ford, Maris, Howard, Berra, Skowron, Kubek, Terry, Boyer, RIchardson and the rest. I know I shall never in this lifetime see their like again. What a tragedy. And they did it without steroids. Buy the movie.

  • One of the Best Baseball movies ever!

  • POST THE FILM!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • I wish I could! I did once, and YouTube took it down, copyright violation, and threatened to shut down my account all together.

  • everyone stop all the downloading, buy the films. You can get this on Amazon and it's great.

  • def the best baseball movie ever made

  • Someone post the movie!

  • A great baseball movie. It shows how hard it is for a star when everone is against him. Sad he never knew the record was his. Great acting.

  • This is my all time favorite movie, and I watch it all the time!!! I still get upset when they show Mark Mcgwire, he is the one who should have the asterisk by his name! The best scene has to be when Maris and Mantle eat the eggs... This movie has to be one of the top baseball movies out there.

  • Bonds, McGwire and Sosa both have hit over 61 homeruns but neither of them did it the honest way. To me Maris still owns this record. Believe me, in 1961 NO ONE gave him any breaks. He wasnt exactly getting a breaking ball over the plate to him. Mantle was a more popular guy and if someone was going to break it the public felt it should be him. So trust me, no one handed anything to Maris on a silver platter. Mickey either, but you know what I mean

  • Gotta agree with you.

and Aaron still owns the All-Time HR record and Ruth holds the slugging % record. How could one think that Bonds didn't use 'roids at some time?

  • whats that for a movie ? 61* I dont saw it in the cinema ? can ibuy this movie ?

  • Of course you can buy this movie. It's about the Mantle/Maris home run race in 1961. There is an asterisk * in the title because the guinness book of records people put it there to denote that Babe Ruth played 154 games and Maris played 162. It made a difference, but there were other variable, so I think it's horseshit.

  • Roger Maris is still the home run king and he will all ways be it no one can take it from him. 61 yankees team was the best team in my eyis and the acters look just like them... Good job Billy Crystal

  • I'll give you the "he's still the home run king" bit because McGwire and Bonds sure as Hell didn't earn it.

But the day comes when a legit player hits 62, then it's been taken away from him. But he'll never be forgotten.

  • both of you are right. in my mind, that record still belongs to roger.

  • he was an average guy who did an extraordinary thing, not given positive reviews by the press, wasn't pumped up on juice, he was good, that record is his.

  • You are right as rain. I'm 21 from the this sorry ass generation and I keep telling my dad and uncles that they had it good watching true baseball players.

I keep saying most of today's players are punks. They juice up and all Maris did was eat sh*tty ass eggs!! (Which I thought was hilarious!)

  • I'm 20, going into the pro's.

Hopefully I can help change it back to the way it use to be. Honest players, clean players, true players. Playing for what it was meant to be, a game, and not some money sucking slap in the face to the common working man.

  • Alrighty then! LOL! :) More power to you! :) Baseball is America's sport and I never understood it really until I watched this and did a little research. It was a magic there that you just don't see anymore. Truly, more power to you. Don't forget where you come from.

  • what team are you going to play for?

    good luck

  • i love this movie i watch every day i want to know what song it is the them song listen to it in backround i love it M&M boys for life

  • im a red sox fan and i luv this movie + unlike alot of sox fans (pink hats as we call em up here in mass.), i appreciate baseballs history and this here is baseball history

  • Good luck this season. This is coming from a yankee fan, just so u know. ;)

  • ya good luck dude we'll need it! texeira's being a dueche signin with the yanks and yet again theo's sittin on his ass planning to do absolutly nothing this offseason...if the sox dont get their act together...we might as well be sittin home watchin u guys in the playoffs!

  • omg good movie lawl

  • Barry Pepper has a nice swing! Has the part down pat!

  • One of the greatest baseball movies of all time! Move over, "Pride of the Yankee's"!

  • Bob Shepherd, the voice of the Yankees. More Importantly, Bob is the voice of God.

  • Bob Shepherd? Part of my allure to the Yankees was that voice that I would hear in the background on the Game of the Week from Yankee Stadium. It was like a voice from the Heavens. It made Yankee Stadium seem like a Cathedral. What delivery! What a stately and dignified voice! "Now batting.....Centerfielder.....number 7....Mickey Mantle.....number 7"

  • I never seen this movie before but i like the Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle

  • i love this movie.

  • For one glorious year Roger Maris was the Dale Earnhardt of home run hitters.

  • IMantle would have took ruths recod id he would have cared about his body.

  • I still consider Maris the homerun king, since three of the guys who beat him are steroid pumpers.

  • Agreed.

  • Oh not true. Think Barry Bonds got booed by Giants fans

  • Now watch what your saying there....barry bonds gets booed becuase people think he is a cheater and a asshole.. Roger Maris did not cheat and he was not a asshole comparied to barry bonds. And only a few giants jerkoffs boo barry 95% do not.

  • everyone boos bonds, that's not even comparable. i hate him. talks so much smack and how many rings does he have? oh yeah.....

  • More like 99% sane people boo Bonds while the 1% are Giants fans with a hard on for him.

  • No he doesn't... Go to a Giants game at BALCO Field.

  • Mantle had to be the greatest natural player, those steroid uses still couldn't touch the Mick in speed and strengh. He was built like bull, but ran like a deer, unreal talent.

  • Imagine how great he would have been if he hadn't blown his knee in his first world series...
