Not a coincidence that you can almost hear Roy Orbison in this song. He was a big influence on JD Souther and this song is pretty much JD's tribute to Roy. The style, composistion and paricularly the beat is pure Roy Orbison and the beautiful and haunting melody and lyic just sounds like something he would write. It's fitting that the song ties them together..when you hear it you think of Roy and that was I think JD's intent.
