And just as ANY great singer will say...she has a GREAT deal of respect for certain singers...Babs and Judy being two of them. Of course it will influence her choice of material...but point blank it's great music. People aren't writing the way they used to!

@rogharm Audra McDonald is NOT an opera singer. She is classically trained and primarily performs Broadway music. There is a significant difference between a classical singer and an opera singer, and, while I love Audra immensely, she was never trained in Opera.

And...you can't really compare Babs to Audra as they are completely different. I would label Barbra as my favourite singer of all time and Audra as one of my top 2 current broadway performers.

@carr0760 from ROGHARM audra may not be an opera singing opera. in my opinion, audra has an opera voice even tho she does not sing opera. barbra does N O T have an opera voice and audra makes barbra sound weak with no tone. audra has the quality to sing opera if she to sing opera. her performance in wonderful town with thomas hampson proves she has an operatic voice. brent barrett has an operatic voice but probably brent barrett does not sing opera. these artists have the talent .

Tim (or is it Bill?) Daugherty sang it at the first Broadway Unplugged concert, without changing the pronouns. He has a lovely old-fashioned Irish tenor, had no trouble filling Town Hall, and the song hit big time. (Yes, it's a GREAT torch song!)
