  • you should do a remake with 8 floppy drives! like if you agree!

  • Next time when I see a floppy disc I'll make sure to force a daft punk CD into it, even if that bitch doesn't like it.

  • I'm asking a remake with 16 floppies, and donations

  • awesome!

  • best part at 1:11

  • sounds better than the original in my opinion :D reason: the sounds the floppy drives produce seem to fit better than synths

  • FRESHNESS

  • @QUIZFILTER

i was thinking almost exact the same!

    ultimate tightness!!

  • DAFT PUNK WOULD BE PROUD

  • very cool!

  • maybe daft punk originally sampled some 3,5"s for their music, considering the uncanny resemblance to the original.

  • One single word aptly describes this. That word is, EPIC.

  • Sampled;-) Alchemy:-)

  • This song sounds like it needs more floppies

  • this should be the new genre in music industry

  • Did you give permission to Failblog to use one of your video's? I'm reffering to the Tetris one.

  • Flopstep :D

  • Imagine what the System Shock theme would sound like on this :D

  • Wow that is amazing -

  • Cogratulations! WOW This is unbelievable! Just perfect!

  • Floppy sex!

  • This is another reason why computers scare me.

  • do harder better faster stronger

  • shut up and take my money!!!

  • f*cking awes0m3

  • Lol that's creative. =)

  • Is this shit even real?Am I just trippin?

  • this version sounds more machine like that daft punk could have ever made, long live machines!!

  • @leadspot

A mechanized army of circuitry and metal...robots, thousands of them. Built by man, they serve no one, carrying out tasks without conscience.

    ADVANCED ROBOTICS.

  • this makes me happy

  • world must know D:

  • Comment removed

  • this is like the best thing EVER.

  • This is strangely better than the original, not that the original was bad but this has a unique quality to it. Quite an impressive feat.

  • now try with 5 1/4 drives please!!!

  • Great but it would be even better mixed with close ups of the animated parts and tilt-shift and zoom effects !!!!!!!!!

  • king of geeks

  • Daft Punk would be proud

  • I'm guessing CD-hateful-related comments are from kids who have never heard of floppy,

    can't really blame them.

Anyway, it's a shame that you are not damaging the units,

those devil things needs death (a user of many dead floppy disks).

Just kidding heh, but floppy disks always failed when I needed them most.

  • It sounds pretty awesome playing this and the original song side by side.

  • I DEMAND A REMIX

  • Even if they were CD's why the fuck are you guys whining about it? Stop bitching and enjoy this awesome video.

  • R.I.P headphone users :(

  • Beast!

  • Welcome to the Grid, you've earned it.

  • Awesome! Hardwarekiller!

  • I love staccato things. Somehow, I love this even more than the actual track. Is that wrong?

  • this already sounds phenomenal but if it was turned into an extended remix complete with a drum track, I'd buy it off itunes

  • @MrSoildSnake745 ok ok ok. I'm wrong and I'm sorry about the companied. It just sounds like your destroying something that's all sorry. Hey I've got two videos of daft punk being remix by ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that is you want to watch it.

  • Make this with Deep Purple- Smoke on the Water !!!!

  • Awesome how they sound similar to those grainy synths of the original :D

  • @Geshtro What something sounds like and what something is are two entirely different things. The repetitive stepping done by the motors may sound like the floppy drives are scratching something, but in reality they are not. It doesn't seem like you have done any research into the subject. Why don't you take a look at how floppy drives work or my explanation in my FAQ (posted link in my channel). Then you will understand what you are complaining about.

  • @MrSolidSnake745 Just ignore Geshtro. He's probably just some kid who's too ignorant/young to know what a floppy drive is.

  • @Geshtro All your dislikes say the opposite

  • @MrSoildSnake745 wait! He's not scratching disc? Well then you must not be paying any attention watch the video again and if he's not scratching disc. Well.... It sounds like something's in those players.

  • Great stuff! Nice!

  • @Geshtro This comment confuses me. There are no CD players in this video. Your second sentence does not make seem to relate to anything. There are no disks being scratched here and I don't know this "perfectly good reason" you are talking about. What are you trying to say?

  • @Geshtro I know your comment was posted a long time ago. But they are NOT CDs, They are floppies, they naturally make that song when reading a disk. But not in a melody. The uploader used a computer program and a controlling circuit bord to make the drive read the disk at different speeds and in a sequence.

  • how can i make like this one, turn floppy into something speaker?

  • @bsac121956 Look to Sammy1Am's channel. He has a video tutorial up of how to do it now!

  • @MrSolidSnake745

I'm curious. How do you convert songs into whatever format the floppies can read? Do you have to put in each note and delay manually or you automatically process the sounds into something much simpler?

  • If anything could sound "right" on floppy drives, it would be by Daft Punk

  • this song was made for floppy drive players. super awesome!

  • I can't fking subscribe. D:<

  • Epic

  • This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. :D

  • eee))

  • Awesome! Love it ! liked and faved :)

  • coole Idee, aber irgendwie auch etwas bescheuert :-)

  • nice work

  • Love the sound textures! There was an article about making music this way posted on Wired News within the last year. (How about an "oldie" - I'm thinking Smoke on the Water" would sound good in this format. :-)

  • thanks that made way more sense after hearing the original.

  • SO COOL!!

  • Wow thats awesome!

  • nerd stuff ... I LOVE THIS !

  • Nice! Have you thought about maybe throwing some hard drives in the mix? The drive head mechanism makes a pretty good speaker...

Also how about some contact mics? I'm sure the sounds produced by those motors are even better than heard here, just not being transferred into the air very well...!

    Good fun either way.

  • @adzy31 ...Omg. Contact microphones!?!? That sounds like it would be perfect. Never knew they existed. I move the setup to a semi hollow table that amplified the floppies quite nicely, but from what I can surmise about contact mics I wouldn't need to do that and would get a much clearer sound! I've got to try this! Thanks for the tip!

  • @MrSolidSnake745 the bass wont sound as good without the resonating chamber of the hollow table though...

  • just gone out to buy some floppy disk drives. HOW HARD CAN IT BE?

  • @CutterCub You can do it! Check out Sammy1Am's channel for his video tutorial!

  • I got goose bumbs :p what a great video thanks

  • WIN

  • i got here from a windows 8 video...oh the delicious metallic irony

  • that was sick <3

  • choose 240p for best quality.

  • Mother of God

  • Wicked!

  • who says old technology is obsolete

  • thats pretty awesome.

  • Is that 35 dislikes or 3.5 dislikes?

  • @germanmetalviking Oh my god that is amazing.

  • @germanmetalviking I see what you did there.

  • This is... by far.... the greatest thing I have ever seen.

  • Thumbs up simply because

  • The top 2 comments on this video are amazing.

  • *-* Nice ;D

  • LIKE A BOSS , SO EASY XD

  • @copterfixer No problem! I'm glad I was able to force you to watch to the point of agony. I hope to collect more masochist viewers as yourself =D

  • @MrSolidSnake745 you receive one internet.

  • @MrSolidSnake745 hahaha

  • @MrSolidSnake745 haha WIN!

  • @copterfixer only imbeciles believe on azn bologna(zen, reiki, fenshui, and other B.S.)

Again and again science will destroy those stupid belief that has no proof about their calims.

  • @faustolg the term 'zen' seems to have been watered down a lot in american culture these days. to most people these days it simply means a 'calm state of mind', and for good reason...because religion is bullshit. i prefer to see it this way also, and I choose to ignore any relation that the word 'zen' has to the religion it originally pertains to :P

  • AAWWWWWW SNAP SON!

    THIS IS AWESOME

  • Any chance of getting those drives playable in REALTIME ?

Make a Floppinstrument out of it, not just a player... :)

    would be so cool

  • That is somewhere beyond awesome. I think I'm gonna have to watch the movie now at 3:33 in the morning just because of this

  • PC-9800シリーズのリアルな外部FD音源のドラムを思い出す。

  • I like it. Reminds me of Brainticket's Cottonwoodhill album from 1971.

  • Pretty much the perfect song for a floppy disk version.

  • Sounds better than the original tbh.

  • This is what robots are ganna be jamming out to when they take over. I think im ok with it.

  • Bravo!

  • i think you found a niche in techno/chiptune music with these floppy drives. DO MOAR.

  • Hey, could you please post any schematics and source code you have for this up on Github? It'd be great to be able to replicate this. Also interested in how you're partitioning the music between these (algorithmic, or did you sequence it yourself?)

Anyway, I'm ip2k on github, please let me know if you get around to posting this. I'd love to make a mobile version mounted to a board with a small R/C car battery powering it :D :D :D

  • @seanp2k I feel like I responded to this comment already, but I don't see a reply. The code is already on Github. Look to Sammy1Am's channel for more info. He is the creator of the software, I'm simply using it.

  • Throwing my guitar away. Thanks. Bastard!!! Kidding... sort of. 8-}

  • what? how? WHY?

  • hate sound of this version...nice gimmick but floppy drives are just bad at reproducing such a great song

  • off topic, but check out the related wipeout video. It is so win

  • @cheezcola Quantum Levitation is so cool xD

  • Zacne!

  • Just genius!

  • Is that an Arduino i see? :DD

  • @roboy33 It is =D

  • Comment removed

  • that was AWESOME!

  • i find this humorously awesome!

  • This is amazing

  • wow thats cool

  • My Teacher Showed Me This.

  • close enough ...not

  • Saw Derezzed performed by your floppy orchestra. Love it, that song absolutley brings out the best from the floppydrives. The solo at the end with the single floppy drive is soo cool! I believe music with sound that reminds of the mechanical sound suits realy well. I remember growing up with Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler, featuring some cool beats and sounds. Some parts of it would be realy cool with a floppy orchestra.

  • Made the Jacehall Show too!

  • could you post a link to the original music please?

  • @rogerdpack I'm not sure what you are asking for =\

  • @MrSolidSnake745 Hes asking for the song your trying to cover.

  • @rogerdpack He wants the original song.

  • @rogerdpack the original music Daft Punk - Derezzed

  • @rogerdpack /watch?v=HwCScDMw53U&ob=av3n

  • @rogerdpack /watch?v=kSJtUKAwJXU there you go ;)

  • @rogerdpack search "Daft Punk - Derezzed"

  • @rogerdpack youtube.com/watch?v=m4cgLL8JaVI

  • @rogerdpack

Or you could always just youtube Derezzed... but that might be too difficult for you

  • @rogerdpack youtube.com/watch?v=m4cgLL8JaVI

  • This sound reminds me of the game Portal 2...

  • That awesome moment you realize you still know what a FLOPPY drive is...

our kids will probably read about it in history books :-)

  • That.

    was.

    WICKED!

    Awesome!

  • @interlagos80s Sounds like someone is jealous they can't do anything near this interesting so they've resorted to the Kindergarten method of name calling and insults.

  • @interlagos80s Someone's jealous.

  • XFX re-posted this on Facebook. :)

  • I'm missing some fax modem dialing tones... LOL

  • Thumbs up if XFX sent you here.

  • :O

  • TALENT

  • XFX just posted this on FB, freaking cool

  • 19 people aren't sure what a floppy drive is.

  • Funny thing is people think thats music! PHHhahahahahaa..... My generation suck donkey balls! lol

  • @evlwhitdude what exactly IS music?

  • @burnforce An organized series of air compressions with different amplitudes and frequencies

  • @burnforce Good question! Music to me is... A series of rhythmic notes orchestrating pleasant sounds or noises to ones ear. This video and the "Music" it is demonstrating is not pleasant to MY ears. So to me it is not music, but with that said... "It is all in the eye of the beholder". I know I listen to music that some would call trash, boring or just plain noise! Lol I listen to almost everything under the sun but this I just can't get into...

  • @evlwhitdude so if what you are saying, you truly believe in then music is "a series of rhythmic notes", then wouldn't you agree that what you are hearing her is a series of rhythmic notes, regardless of how it's produced? Music is Music......can't we all agree the source is pointless?

  • @burnforce I do agre100%. But. I'm assuming you like this? You hear music that you can enjoy, I hear noise that computers make! Lol Example.Too some people the sounds of wolves howling in the night is beautiful music that should be cherished and to others that same sound is an annoyance! I'm not debating the source of how the music is produced.Just stating that it is not my cup of tea.Regardless of our opinions, I'm sure the process it takes to make this happen is probably remarkable!

  • Dude, one of my co-workers just linked me to an article featuring you on PC World! Nice work!

  • @Sammy1Am WhAAaaAttTtTTtT!? Did you make sure to tell him/her that I couldn't have been nearly this awesome without you!? Thanks so much Sammy!

  • OH MY GOD! thats the most awesome thing ever! :D

  • SAME DESKTOP I HAVE!
