  • i love how everyone thinks this film was playing in every classroom in america in 1945 when in reality the guy who made it was probably fired for being a dirty pinko or something.

  • America is a long way from despotism although the left is working on it by ridding the country of that cumbersome, outdated Constitution.

  • And yeah, Ron Paul is a lunatic and nearly as bad as the worst Rethug. We need someone well to the left of the most liberal Democrat.

  • There is no "under God" in the film because that was not added to the pledge until the 1950s. If you want a despot, elect Paul. He wants anarchy in the USA, nothing more.

  • Welcome to America, circa 2010

  • Also notice soon after 1 minute into the video there is no "under god" in the pledge, as including it would have been considered "despotism" at the time, as it is.

  • So about 64 years ago the US government considered the modern day teabaggers' wet dream and Fox News' America as Despotism. Interesting.

  • This video shows the pledge that was the one WITHOUT the reference to god... which would be later added in the 1950's, as well as language on currency.

  • Great video. Our results since 1946 are a mixed bag. Mostly, there has been less despotism, but it hasn't reached become as free as the film shows is possible. One thing that happened after this film was made, was McCarthyism. Notice that "under God" is nowhere to be seen in the Pledge of Allegiance in this video. It was only added in the 1950s. This film is validating to an atheist like me, because it shows that religion has crept into law over time, and not to trust books on faith.

  • If as described here, I would say that "depotism stands a good chance" today.

  • ????

  • Anti-nazi propaganda. Big difference.

  • I'm the law here, kaaa ka ka ka.

  • dosent matter what regime it is , if there is economic growth and inflation in it , society will eventualy go poor, homeless, and hopeless.Prices of homes rose 12X since 1971 from 18.000$ to 200.000$ in 2005, RENTS WENT FROM 250$ TO 1000$ a month. Salaries hardly even doubled since then, you do the math.

  • You are a moron! This video is simply trying to facilitate critical thinking! I love its simplicity. Thank you so much for posting this Daragnot ;-)

  • Thanks for making this public. =)

  • nice video, thanks for your efforts

  • Great Find! Thanks for posting it here. (This needs to be seen more. People - show it to people ;-)

  • This film promotes the redistribution of wealth, thats democracy.

    We live in a Republic

  • No, that's socaialism. We live in a constitutional democracy.

Wikipedia is a wonderful resource. Try it sometime. :)

  • Is that why the guys who wrote the constitution said that a democracy was the worst form of government known to man and then gave us a REPUBLIC??? The term "democracy" was never used about our government until 100 years after its formation, and only became one after the 17th amendment perverted the original election process. Wikipedia is great if you don't want to read history and would rather read fiction....

  • It's also great when you don't get bogged down in semantics. There's many different forms of democracy, and a republic is one of them. The guys who wrote the constitution? Which one???

  • (cont:) They each had vastly different ideas about how it should be done. Do you have any idea how different things would have been if Hamilton had had his way??? He succeeded in marginalising Jerfferson's ideas about individual liberty and social agreement. Jefferson did the best he could by the time he became president to shrink the government, but he could only do so much.

  • (cont:) So now who's reading fiction again??? Why don't you look at my other videos before you put your foot in your mouth again. That's the history they don't teach you in schools. If you knew that popular movements have actually succeeded why would you need to conform to the system?

I usually don't ream people like this but I'm sick of all this republic/democracy bs since it's just a diversion from any real issue.

  • @Findingaway actually what wa said was.......it is the worst form of government....."except for all the others". It was a tongue in cheek comment

  • Darganot, please do not make statements with absolute conviction; especially when you're wrong.

Whether or not you're refering to America's current status, or what it was and was supposed to be, it's intented to be a 'Constitutional Republic'.

Of course, there are gray areas between all labels of societies, but you seem to be advocating an illusion of 'freedom'.

Democracy is rarely a 'free' society, being that 51% can over rule 49%, and that is the beginning of the end..

  • No illusions here, only Liberty.

I don't think I mentioned freedom here but if and when I do I usually mean to qualify it with 'individual' freedom. I really need to get a video on the Socratic Method up...

In any case I don't disagree with what you said.

  • That is all fine and good; but America is a Democratic Plutocracy.

You vote in public elections; (Democratic)

    for people with money. (Plutocracy)

    End of debate.

  • well not really.

the two contradict each other in a way..

The whole nature of a plutocracy is the wealthy dictating over the lower class. voting doesn't exist under one, or atleast legit voting systems don't. In a sense, there's a world Plutocracy governing many nations, since the Royals really do own the U.S.

However, it is useless to concentrate on labels of government types; it's all subjective. Things rarely follow what defines a particular term.

  • This video is great. Someone needs to remake and modernize it for 2007.

  • I think it's powerful and timeless as it is. I agree, great video, and it's sad to see that we've gone down the path despotism somewhat.

  • wow, this is a pretty good video. I thought those dudes in the 40's were dumb, but I guess I was wrong. We Must vote for Mike Gravel and restore the Republic. Dont let the Union fall apart.

Make a difference, fight for your rights and dont be afraid.

  • No respect :muslims, arabs, persians, anybody not "patriot", poor, Katrina victims, immigrants

    Respect: rich, famous

Concentration: executive orders, overturned habeas corpus, corrupt attorney general, actual power to vice president

Econon distr: richest 5% are earning more, middle class is poorer (infl. adj.), poor are really poor

    Yep. Despotism here we come!

  • I think another YT'er referred me to Bilderberg. I'll make sure to check that out.

    What about Gore? Same thing?

  • Tsk, tsk.

Those that forget history are destined to repeat it.

We are screwed, if We don't wake up!

    IMPEACH NOW!!!

  • I love the old informationals especially the ones that start off with Johnny was hanging with the wrong crowd! Good vid

  • Juleof: personally I'll take one from column B..the "tempestuous sea of liberty.: Its tough but its better than being be-headed metaphorically speaking.

  • Well sh**. All indicators lead towards despotism in this country. I mean how much clearer can it get. Wake up folks, Wake up, have we been brain-drained? Are we really willing to just sit back and watch this happen...come on!!!

  • Google Video:

    "Money Masters"

    "Fiat Empire"

    "America: Freedom to Fascism"

    "Orwell Rolls in his Grave"

    "Why we Fight"

    "Iraq for Sale"

    "The Corporation"

    "Manufacturing Consent"

    Ron Paul '08

  • see also "Anarchy in America"

I would have put "Manufacturing Consent" at the top... I try to recommend that people start there. Check out my other vids if you would :)

  • I'll check that out.

Altogether its about 20 hours of intense analysis, but its worthy of collegiate coursework. Too bad we don't educate on such matters, but its to be expected by the system it exposes.

I'm also a big fan of Alex Jones and other Chomsky works.

  • Saw most of these, it seems to me that the poor are not the problem, it is the fat cat CEO's in bed with our politicians that is the real problem. I can't believe you saw these things and still blame "the poor" for our problems.

  • Oh, I don't blame the poor of anything more than being as ignorant to the realities of corporatism as everyone else. As I've said, foreign adventurism and the nanny state are (not the only, but) HUGE reasons we have such an income gap and are headed towards a 3rd-world-like service economy of serfdom and ruling elites (despots).

  • Right, Big Business are the ones hiring illegals to work in this country, cause they can get them cheap thus increasing our "poor" which increases our tax burden. Nanny NOT, exploitation YES. Once again its the fat cats who have offices on "K" street and pay off the politicians not the poor, they are pawns.

  • Interesting video for sure.

  • The Anti-Despot and lover of individual liberty: Dr. Ron Paul

    ***

VOTE RON PAUL in the PRIMARIES!

    ***

  • Ditto Koby: Seems like the only person we can trust, but the big guns are going to try their hardest to not allow him in, its going to have to be a HUGE GRASSROOTS effort. Huge.

  • We shall overcome! Hey, btw, I hear Mitt's actually paying people to attend the upcoming Iowa Straw Poll to vote for him (free transportation, food, and all the perks). Shows you the quality of the candidate when he has to actually bribe people to come in and vote for him. It's not only pathetic, it sounds (and is) unethical.

  • yeah, very unethical, but ya know I could use some free food, too bad its in Iowa, really wish it was someplace I'd like to visit.

  • Yes I heard about Mr. SLC doing this for supporters and it made my stomach turn as I see my squandering RP meetup group scraping pennies to try to get out there. I'll do my best to make it to Ames this weekend if I have to hitchhike (I live in Ohio).

  • Do it.

I drove to San Antonio from Dallas just to attend the recent rally, ended up staying for the fundraiser ($30 discount student ticket), meeting some bright people, and having a place to crash instead of driving home that night.

Anything can happen. You'll be amidst hundreds of RP fans with lots to share. You may even get to shake his hand and talk with him for a few.

The best part is seeing/actively participating in the movement.

  • hey Koby thx for sending this to me. "Its a waste of time to teach children to think for themselves." yikes!! i find it amazing that they were using USA as a model for despotism as early as 1946. shows how long people have been asleep. peace :)

  • It is interesting to note that although the producers state despotism can arise in any form of government (ieRepublic:nazi::Communist:China) that they are very pro communist. notice that although they say they present an independant metric, the side opposing despotism is democracy.. a governmental form. It should be opposed by liberty and respect for independant rights. also, their answer to every despotic indicator is "shared".. if only everything was "shared" it would be less despotic..

  • You raise some good points, although as an anarcho-capitalist I took "Democracy" to mean direct democracy of social agreement rather then as a representative form of government.

  • Darganot: I also took their statement of "democracy" to mean the general social agreement despite my understanding of the other faces of "democracy". my argument is that they take the liberty to spin democracy as shared ownership in both power, production, and othersuch. this is more the definition of communism than democracy and goes against their stated intent.

  • I am completely baffled by whatever point it is you are trying to make. The opposite of despotism(power in the hands of the few) is quite logically democracy (powered distributed among many). You liken this to communism? Hogwash...communism is despotism in the name of the state. Ohhhhh thats right..you fascist right wingers dont realise how close you are to communism do you? Oh so willing to trample the rights of the few for the security(good) of the state.

  • ademjohn1: first: you mistake the tone of my comment, i am simply raising observations, not calling someone a "commie". if you immediately conclude that a) i'm simplifying my stance/perspective to left vs right and b) i am further blind in such a belief structure as to not possess the critical thinking skills required to notice ironic overlays in the structures of implemented policy in existance today, then I'm sorry: you jump to conclusions and I cease to care.

  • Yor response was so thoughtful that my first reaction was to want to immeddiately issue an apology for misunderstanding your point. Before i did this however, I decided to re-read your original post to see where i went wrong. I have concluded that it was the part when You said the producers were "very pro communist' In light of this I cant issue the before mentioned apology. The spin no longer works sir, even if it is on par with cheney on cnn.:D

  • ademjohn1: i'll clarify my point: that the creators of the video purpose to present an alternate view to the trap known as left vs right by presenting the very seed argument that gives rise to left vs right in the first place. where absolute left is collectivism and absolute right is dictatorship, I critique their thought process as left-leaning because instead of simply saying oligarchy is contrasted by distributed power they say it is contrasted by "shared" power: collective ownership/charge.

  • furthermore ademjohn1.. spin? it is true irony that, in attempting to point out percieved spin in a video that I myself mostly agree with, I am accused to be a partisan in the extreme and am myself spinning with the zeal of such.. i'll just wait for the day when a open-minded thinker isn't suddenly being forced into categories and sides upon opening his mouth.

  • Enot: in the interest of reasonable exchange I will apologise forr the harshness of my response. Please consider however, the possibility that when you take a vid that is obviously pro democracy and say I quote again " They are very pro communist" in todays shoot first ask questions later political climate you nay be a victim of freindly fire.

  • ademjohn1: i appreciate that, thank you. I admit the words you quoted send up flags. in short comment boxes a phrase means alot when defining a persons stance. I just dont like being called a fascist. see I offer liberty and rights as the proper opposer of despotism. 'shared' vs 'consentrated' is still in the neighborhoods of left vs right and can be twisted as such. however personal liberty and rights are either there or not.

  • You are 100% correct...it is difficult to relay ones true stance within 500 words or less. I will leave it at this. I want as I am sure you do as well for our great nation to live up to the promise to which it originally aspired. What I see today does nothing to embolden that hope and it is frustrating. So if you are able to look past my 500 words or less shortcomings...I am doing the same...good luck to you.

  • if that isn't enough perhaps you can see my exchange with Darganot...

  • please re-view the video. The producers make the point that power should be distributed amongst the people equally. I know it sounds eerily familiar to "for the people by the people". I am forced to comclude that your understanding of communism is what may be lacking. This video would be banned in any communist regime..would it not? I am afraid that in an attempt to make a poignant observation you have stumbled into a subject in which you are clueless.

  • well a communist would argue that the communist regime is a non-sequitor. that in true communism, the government is not separate from the people and that no it would not ban anything. not that I agree with that but i am not clueless. listen, we could go on like this forever, you tell me my viewpoint is wrong and me tell you i don't have a viewpoint per convention, et al. ad nauseum. i enjoyed the exchange.. cheers. 8P

  • Fascinating! Thanks for posting it. Should be seen by all, even those who may not yet comprehend it all because of the poor educations they've had.

  • Amazing video -- and very frightening at how close it mirrors what is going on in our country today. The government doesn't tell us how to vote, but they don't let us see how our votes are counted, either. End result is the same -- we get the puppet...

  • Yeah GWB..really scary, scary as shit.

  • THE ROAD TO SERFDOM, DAH DAH DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Funny thing is, this despotism happened under a Republican government and not a welfare state government, like all the free traders thought back in the forties.

  • You don't call this a welfare state?

  • No immanent: Unless you refer to corporate welfare, then it definately is..who has the power, the poor people or the big CEO's with their bloated salaries and pay offs to the politicians?

  • Social Security & Medicare, just to name two. This despotism HAPPENED because we've expended way more on guns & butter than we thought. Social welfare and Defense spending have equally put us in the $9 trillion hole we're in now, projected to be $40-60 trillion in 30 years.

You'll know true despotism if the dollar crashes.

  • immanant; Soon come. Social Welfare is just a small slice of the pie, its the $135 billion dollars a day we are spending in Iraq that is a problem, not to mention all the money we send to China for all the goodies they produce like poisoned pet food, poisoned fish, toothpaste and toys for tots, choc-a-bloc full of toxins. YAHOO lets go down screaming FU Bush.

  • yeah well, what about the projected $40-60 trillion in unfunded liabilities over the next 30 years? Nostly social security obligations as I understand it. We could keep printing and inflating the currency (ultimately hurting the poor/middle class), but the way it looks in recent weeks, we won't last that long. :(

And yes, I agree we need to examine our dealings with China for safety standards.

  • "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" pre 50's with no "under god" pledge as it should be.

  • Oh shit I didn't even realize that! Thanks for pointing that out.

  • This gave me chills. Thanks for posting it.

  • This is my new featured video on my channel.

  • This should be playing everywhere.

  • Very cool! We get an F on the information scale.

  • freedomworks dot org/strawpoll/

  • the consequences of the 2008 election results will be far reaching

  • The year, 1946. The pledge: allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The year, 2007. The pledge: allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, one nation, under god, with liberty and justice for all. If we don't keep religion out of politics, we're going to end up like Iran; one nation under god. We pledge allegiance to each other under one nation.

  • Thanks :)

  • President Dwight Eisenhower (President: 1953-1961) was responsible for that extra little two word inclusion. He made a major error with that very provocative inclusion in maintaining the separation of church and State.

  • Given the demographics and religious fervor gripping the country after WWII and Korea, it would have been political suicide to oppose God's blessing upon the nation. Forever associating God with the pledge cements the union between belief in God allegiance to country. It is the notion that we are a nation under God that defines allegiance. Thus, the Constitution becomes subservient to the dictum of God.

  • Scary

  • Tag this with all the Canidates! Please! I think all American Voters should Watch this just not Ron Paul Voters!

  • The market is becoming this way! Cause a few people are owning all the weath and trying there hardest to mislead the markets in the USA and around the World! The TV plays big into this also! God Bless the World & Humanity!

  • someone should Email this Video the George W Bush. Maybe he and his croonies will watch it and decide that they are doing nothing good for this country but destroying it!

  • THEY know exactly what they're doing...and WE know exactly what they're doing!
