Germana is a great hand-made cachaça. Pitu and 51are bad ones, they are the cheapest brands in Brazil. Sagatiba and Leblon are fine, they are made for export. Ypioca is also nice.
Congratz on the vid, first time I've seen a foreigner making a caipirinha the right way. Only thing that most brazilians don't do is shake it, but it's ok to do it. Also, some people cut the lemon in thin slices so it won't be too bitter after muddling. You can use less sugar at will too.
I work in a busy arts centre and like to do caipirinhas as a special for brazilian club nights. I normally use sugar syrup as its a bit quicker and most of my customers prefer a smooth drink.
I've seen alot of recipies but this is the first time i've seen it muddled and shaken.
@madskillz808 same dude, im usually 2-3 people deep at my bar so gomme syrup and not shaken is my preferred method also. In the uk sagatiba is pretty much all you can get over the counter, although there is pleanty of choice on the net!
This is a very refreshing drink. I was also told by people from Brazil that you must use Raw Sugar, about 4 teaspoons. Nonetheless a refreshing drink by far! Good Vid!!
Tried this one over the weekend. The first sip I was unsure. I've never had Cachaca before, so the taste was new and unfamiliar to me. The second sip was a little better and by third sip it became one of my favorite drinks. Cheers!
Wait, caster sugar is something unusual in the US?

I bought my first bottle of Cachaca yesterday. The liquor store had four brands, and I chose Leblon, not knowing anything about what would be best.
Can anybody recommend a brand or brands of cachaca that they enjoy? Thanks!!!

I've never seen the limes & sugar muddled with Cachaca (rather than water). Having seen Chris do it, I wonder why it never occurred to me.
