This rape scene has always been something I remembered. I think it's because of its graphic nature and the fact that it is such a strong visual representation of historical events. This actually happened. What horrifies me is that these women then had to go on working with these men. How could there ever be a sense of community after what happened? This makes me feel sick at what men are capable of
white people are seriously sick the soldiers enjoy the show so much instead of shooting men who are acting worse than savages they stand still and watch but when it comes to their food they will shoot without thinking, and all of them were brought into this world by a woman. how sad, yet the go around the world calling others savages.
clarke go help!!! jeez why do they just stand there. these poor women are getting raped. i would be bitch slappin all them guys and soldiers. i wouldnt slap clarke though. we <3 you jack davenport <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
The most ironic part is that these british people are the same ones that went around calling anyone that were not white "savages". Clearly wearing nice clothes, being white or having a title DOESN'T make you a gentleman. Look at those officers who watched!! and they called the others savages?!?!
The couples got married to be given extras, like housing. The women agreed to marry but mostly for convenience. Could be the men who didn't get married wanted the sex the others would get or the men decided to take what the women were not willingly offering. Or a little bit of both. Can anyone who read the book give more insight into the group rape?
@revacohen Maybe it's to show how lucky for those women who were married. Mary, for example, was very lucky that Will was there and that she was also married.
An awful scene of raping & terrible happenings! I guess I didn't expect to see that, but in those days, I am sure that such things did occur. So much for their newfound paradise...yugh!
@RandomlyAqua Same - I felt sick and angry. But what made me cry was the faces of the women afterwards. The victims who were powerless to get justice. You can punish someone for a crime, but you cannot retrieve a person's dignity and confidence.
WTF random rape party!? That definitely wouldn't have happened!
BTW, they really buttfucked Governor Philip's character in this. The real Philip would never have just allowed it to carry on, and he wouldn't have built a gallows after the incident. The gallows was there from the start, and Philip hated it.
I really need some information about the convicts clothing - names of items/ texture etc I would really appreciate if anyone knew anything that could enlighten me!! thanks!
The male excuse would be, "It's been six months with no female company" they were seperated on the boat and such, but they were thrown together once they landed.
It's bull. And I think the governor was an ass for not letting the Marines go in and break it up. All the women were attacked by more then one guy, and yet they were blamed for it just as much.
Gees, God, life must have been very tough and complicated back than. To get married on a random person you've never met or known in your life is...like meeting a stranger and these days, you can have all the time in you want to meet whoever you wants and if you don't like that person, move on. Not back then, you can't choose, period.
Lucky for Mary, she happens to come along meeting a decent, good looking guy who takes care of her very well.
05:31- ¡¡¡Escena repugnante!!!, más si está basada en hechos reales, pero dantesco es que los militares se quedaran impasibles. Y les llamaban salvajes a los aborígenes...irónico.
Yeah, I know - the convict men's disgusting behaviours, except for Will of course, were barbaric. The British considered the Aborigines as savages but these British convicts were attacking like barbarians themselves.
@iridescentblue yes and no. i did hear that in some Indigenous tribes it was the practice to steal women from other tribes to be wives. I've heard of some cultures where that has simply become a dramatic ceremonial practice (they'd already talked to the women beforehand) but I imagine it came from a practice where the women weren't happy to be taken.
Will is pretty much the only one out of all of them that has a heart.
Thank God at least the Captain will shoot any MAN on sight, considering it is their fault; instead of blaming it on the women. But calling them whores isn't any better.
LOL You should see how furious Clarke looked when he saw Mary and Will getting marry to each other. Clarke was like 'I'm going to kill you someday, Will, for taking my sweetheart away.'
