I think Mr. Paige assumed the weapon wasn't loaded when he got it.

Mr. Paige should have made sure that there was no round in the chamber and no charged magazine in the pistol.

As for the finger on the trigger, yes and no.

On a Glock, the only way to "decock" the striker is to pull the trigger. Of course, this means you must safety check the weapon first; make sure the pistol is not loaded.

But, if I were him, I'd make sure it was unloaded AND I'd keep the action open.
