@OWLovethBL it's short for "utility" as in utility vehicle. It has the convenience of a car with a bed in the back like a truck. In the USA we use to have a great interest in utes. We had the Ford Ranchero and the Chevrolet El Camino but they died off in the 70's and 80's respectively.
@Konformation07 If Chevrolet get their way, the next model Holden Commodore ute will be going to AAmerica with El Camino badges. I know that will offend the purists, but it's a car worth looking at. If you hate the look of it, you have several options to change its appearance, as Holden are great believers in universal tooling
i did not know their was a top gear in Australia and it is not bad. i watch it in uk on the bbc and dave and dave is a real channel in the uk look it up.
Lol funny thing is i drive a Tarago exactly the same as the one they cut up, only difference being mine's blue, hasn't got a sunroof, and has 420,000km's on it
I love this show! If only our American car shows had this kind of humour.

You gotta love that '36 Ford ute at the beginning of the show.
The "75th" anniversary of the ute would have been in 2009 which means they should have presented a '34 Ford ute but that nice looking '36 will do.
