It wasn't all as glamorous as this. I watched groups of friend die off. Others became alcoholics to deal with the mass devestation of watching their friends die. Gay people were so discriminated against they weren't even able to board planes if they were suspected gay or had as much as a cough. It was allowed to happen. Now at almost 60 and having lost most of my friends and aquaintances I sometimes wonder why I survived. I am glad I have gotten to live and see this day and where we are.
I would give anything to have those days back....we had the best music thanks to Wayne Hill, more drag in a week than they have in a month now, nicknames, Missy, Mary,Miss Thing. Talbott was the place to be and be seen. And when we started to loose our friends to AIDS we came together with incredible force of love, support, and money. Thanks.....Kent Henry, Michael Verloop
As much of a lime hate friendship Kent and I had over those years....he hired and fired me at least 4-5 times. Well Mike Verloop hired me back. Talbott Street , I can say were the best years of my life. My liver looks like concrete. I would not change a thing. This clip gave me a chance to see some people I have seen for years. Stella-girl did we work some trade in that dressing room. "bring me Stella". The first part of my drag name came from Ruth Dix....and thanks to Stella Buffy Rae was born
Kent Henry and his partner closed Talbott Street without letting of the staff know. We showed up for work and were greeted by large black bouncer type guys who were wearing jackets and very willing to flash their guns as they escorted us around to get our things and empty the dressing room. Kent and Stan then moved to Key West. We were told nothing prior or even as much as a thank you after the fact. Ask anyone who worked there at the time. The great thing about the movie was to see the memorie
I heard a rumor that the owner of Talbot Street used to frequent Infinity a club just south of Dayton, just before TS opened and that he might have been influenced by Infinity... Just wondering.
