  • Did you see the looks Lou gave that lady? xD He showed her what's what very discreetly.

  • Comment removed

  • The host is overbearing. Lou handled her very well.

  • I think the moist plump mound would make squelching sounds whilst the host goes off on a carrot,

  • thanks for uploading (enorm bedankt zelfs) een Lou Reed-fan

  • Lou is a lot nicer to this annoying woman than he perhaps should be....

  • Morrissey called Lou Reed: "the W H Auden of modern times". I think I'd go with that...

  • @mmyyppaarrttyy

"A verbal art like poetry is reflective; it stops to think. Music is immediate, it goes on to become...

"Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh...

"All sins tend to be addictive, and the terminal point of addiction is damnation." - W. H. Auden

  • This interviewer is somehow annoying.

  • What the hell is up with the audience in the back? Are they not taking this seriously at times? It's annoying.

  • i find this fucking bitch so disrespectful to lou, obviously has never seen or researched him even a little tryin to humour his jokes which go straight over her head

  • And after the interview, I plugged in Mountain Twin Peaks and thought: When the wagon, leaves the city........

  • I love Lou. I want to take him home! :-D

  • bootleg poetry rofl

  • trivial bullshit

  • i love she asks him to quote the guy who he's supposidely an expert on, on a topic he wrote a book about, yet not only can he not quote one of the poems, but he mis-quotes one of the most popular american poems. what a lightweight.

  • You need to watch his older interviews. He has always been annoyed by or contemptuous of interviewers so he bullshits or lies or says whatever comes into his head until it's over.

    I like that about him.

He's an artist, not a "personality".

  • it's kind of embarrassing though, because he does try.

  • Look at his earlier interviews. He just says random things and nonsense, lies for no reason, then contradicts his lies...

    He's never liked interviews.

With age he's mellowed, and lost the defensive hostility, but he's still pretty well defended. Still seems not to like interviews. I think he's extremely bored.

  • not that it really matters, but i think it's pretty clear she caught him off guard with a question that any legitimate academic, who has produced a book on the topic of poetry, should have answered fairly easily. i could quote poe to a better degree than he did, and i wouldn't consider myself qualified to write a book about him. it's so easy to say he misquoted poe on purpose.

  • Who told you Lou Reed is a "legitimate academic"? LOL! He's a rock musician. A great many of his songs reference drugs, and sex, and he seems to have been very open minded about experimenting with all the possible variations of each. He's a very literate man, but he's had trouble remembering his own lyrics on stage.

  • He is attempting to produce a book on a scholarly issue.

  • If you are attempting to produce an entertaining or intelligent comment, you are failing miserably.

  • :( sowwie

  • so quoth our boseffis nevermore...

  • memorization is for doctors, not rock icons

  • @TheBadBandana None of your comments state anything relevent. Several similar musicians have PhDs (Greg Gaffin of Bad Religion comes to mind). As I recall Reed has a BA in Literature from Syracuse. Furthermore he has the whole Andy Warhol influence, very artsy and academic, not so much the rocky actually (see Reed's follow up to Sally Can't Dance).

  • Of course you're right, an academic would be very good at memorization, but understanding a work and memorizing a work are entirely different acts.

  • He did his album the raven and the rock opera POEtry as tributes. He never said he was an expert he just wanted to make a tribute because he liked poes writing and poes personality

  • This clip should have been called lost in translation ! 00:52 lol at.

  • Thank you, this it a great post.

  • I think the interviewer did a good job. I love Lou, and maybe it could be better, but is not a bad interview. And he defends himself several times.

  • He's always being a dick because he starts talking just when the interviewer wants to ask a new question.

  • Pretty cool, huh?

  • Thanks so much for posting this!

WOw! I have gained more respect for Lou Reed...a fan of Poe? That is so damn cool--I get such a kick out of him and his songs!

    Thanks!

    - an 'Atypical American'!

  • Who's Bob ? Is it Bob Dylan ?

  • Bob Wilson, who did the opera together with Lou.

  • genious

  • A Metal Machine Music Reference, very nice.

  • It's nice to see Lou open up and enjoy what he's talking about.

  • Wow. Some serious drugs were used in the making of this interview.

  • Well, you supplied them didn't you Blank?

  • I really like Lou Reed.

  • Well I like you better Mag.....

  • Well I like you better too "gonesad"

  • i love you all

  • I highly doubt it

  • You guys are assholes. Lou is an artist with a unique interpretation of Edgar Allen Poe's poetry. He doesn't have to be technically correct from a literary scholar's point of view, otherwise his creative force would be useless.

  • He keeps interupting her?

  • Wow, I worshipped this guy, but he is kind of an intellectual lightweight, when she pushes him to elaborate on his aesthetic, he sounds like he really doesnt know what he is talking about

  • Or maybe he was just tired and/or is long past caring about how he is perceived.

  • Jetlagged.

  • lou reed going on about the raven is infinitely better than my english teacher talking about it. FACT. :]

  • That song played is so embarrassing, it sounds like a juvenile Alice Cooper.

  • "These are the stories of Edgar Allen Poe, not exactly the boy next door"?

    WTF!?

  • Yeah! It's funnier than Spinal Tap's Stonehenge.

  • interviewer is nice and speaks dutch

  • yes, but don't you think that her flaws make lou sound even greater?

  • i think this interview just put lou in an embarrasing light! she sounds as if nobody knows who poe is

  • I'd rather be a Spanish cow, than to seem like a nice enough person.

  • She doesn't speak like a Spanish cow. She is a Spanish cow.

  • lay off the hostess. there are many worse things to be than fat and thick-voiced. should she lose some weight? sure. but she seems like a nice enough person.

  • typical American comment. Obsessed with fat and beauty. Typical American.

  • I find that somewhat insulting being an american myself and never knowing that I was obsessed with fat and beauty. wow you know more about me than I know of myself....why is it *okay* to insult americans but if I insulted your nationality oooo what an awful american I would be...(?)

  • i thought she was dutch.....

  • sorry got it lol

  • come on dude wheres part 1

  • God that interviewer is fucking aweful to listen to.

  • Aw, I watched this interview at least 40+ times. Thank you for this interview and all the other ones, which I enjoyed very much. It's funny that they mark your videos as infringement, yet the more mainstream bullshit media is being exploited today and not getting marked.
