Judging by all of the great unsung videos and vloggers I've come across in the last few years, I would say that YouTube simply has no taste when it comes to features.
Also, since they are now trying to monetizing their traffic, they seem to look for more "commercially viable" videos and channels to feature or promote, ignoring those with real substance. [Cont...]

I hate to say it but you have a point. You have had several videos that were either hysterically funny to me, touching or that really meant something or was for a good cause...all things that I feel should be featured yet most are not....makes me think you may be right sadly. Pocket Gay was cute, hilarious, creative and just an all out great well played out idea, it should have been featured =(

nope, I can't explain it to you, I just don't watch the front pages. There are tons of vids, good and great vids that don't get seen. You also have people who buy those mechanisms to get views on their vids, I don't see the point behind paying for it. If people like it, they will enjoy it and if only 50 people see it I'll deal.

I wish it was a fair playing field. My most popular video (200 views to date) is basically footage of a massive huntsman spider in my bathroom.
I'm 35, straight male, and I doubt I would ever be featured either.
I wonder what happens if you get over 10,000 views on a video?
(One of your songs is close to that, maybe we could have a campaign to push that over the 10K mark?).

In my opinion, Steph, it appears to be a combination of "no BUTCH lesbians," no "OLDER lesbians," and yeah...a LOT of ass kissin' goin' on. Actually, the whole collaborating thing, can be a bit "ass kissy" too. But then, that's just my take on it. NutCheese has been featured, but she's what...23 or something? Well I am same age as Nutcheese so Im pretty positive that she is 32. Who says that they are 32 when they are 23? There is no reason for it. And I don't give a **** with who someone hangs out with ( I think they are lovely people) all I care about if I find someone's videos entertaining/interesting or not.

@kaedelake well, everyone has a different opinion. For instance, I don't subscribe to Nutcheese. I don't find her interesting at all. On the other hand, I do sub to Steph here and to Tobie, and Gina, and a lot of others. Fact of the matter still stands..."who" you hang around with in the YT community, has a lot to do with your popularity. YOU may not care, and I certainly don't care, but it does help determine whether you get featured. That's just a pro/con part of social networking.

Judging by all of the great unsung videos and vloggers I've come across in the last few years, I would say that YouTube simply has no taste when it comes to features.
Also, since they are now trying to monetizing their traffic, they seem to look for more "commercially viable" videos and channels to feature or promote, ignoring those with real substance. [Cont...]

[Cont.] A cruel irony because, in my view, YouTube's greatest achievement was facilitating the emergence of the "vlogger". Someone who could produce compelling content without their viewers having to receive the message through a candy-colored lense of pop culture.
So it may be less to do with blatant, targeted discrimination than with a sort of defacto discrimination by ignoring real issues and focusing on more "safe" commercial content. Who can really ever know, though? That's just a guess.

I can see where you're coming from about putting your hard work into a video, only for YT to ignore it. But to go as far as to say it's becuase you're an "old, fat, lesbian"? Just look at the local TV news. The men can be ugly or old or BOTH, but the female co-anchors have to look young and dye those gray hairs like there's no such thing. How many overweight female TV news anchors do you see?
Did you see the untouched picture of Kim Kardashian that mistakenly got published recently? It showed her real body before it was airbrushed to perfection. Even the sleeves on her top were airbrushed in the "acceptable" version. I'm sick of the double standard for women!!!

I'm like you too, I refuse to kiss ass. I have always enjoyed talking to people a little older then I am because they have more wisdom and their morals are in check. They aren't in the getting drunk sleeping around and making stupid choices phase. Zipster complains about ageism sometimes too. I feel as long as the people that aren't the most popular still have a presence I am not bothered by it. OTOH I am not a partner and I probably never would be one.

I would have to ask who Youtube's target audience is and who decides what gets featured.
For the record, I dont think I have made a video that is worthy of being featured (yet)

I think I would shit a brick if I EVER got featured. That is just because my channel isn't built to roll that way. To be honest, I am supprised that I have as many subscribers as I do. I mean I don't have nearly as much as others that have been on as long as I have, I only have 230 but I am sure you see it isn't geared toward entertainment that much.
