Moffo was marvelous in this repertoire, her coloratura was ravishing and she was lovely and a good actress. She later ripped her light voice to shreds trying to do too heavy a repertoire with too little a voice but her Butterfly is ravishing and heartwrenching . Her Traviata was wonderful as was her Lucia. I still remember her as Lucia and Violetta and never have forgotten how great she was live on stage.
Thank you for posting this of both legends.. Moffo and Merrill. Please check out my interview clip with Merrill. In the full version soon to be released, Moffo is also interviewed by me on her own career, and her professional relationship with Merrill.
hahaaha that merrill clip is awesome although i find it a lil hard to believe that that guy swallowed all that without suspicion and he had seen Merrill on TV before? Ha ha. Great to watch regardless. I bet his voice filled that barber shop!

They don't make TV like this anymore! Forget American Idol, forget "Reality TV".
This was television at its best. No more! Thanks for putting this on YT. Love it!

Lends new meaning to the Barber of Seville. TY Candy for this true gem.

Anna Moffo sang with her whole body...she flashes and bats those beautiful and
expressive eyes...full of the devil and fun! Fully capable of coloratura fireworks,
her singing, however, is completely within the bounds of the character and never
totally defined by the high notes. The bit with Merrill is hilarious and wonderfully
played! Thank you Stuart and Victor for your great taste and sense of humor!

I loved the Merrill clip, never seen it before.
'You'd make more money singing than you do cutting hair' HA!
The guy must've gone deaf with Merrill singing like that into his ear.

I'm SO glad you put the Merrill barber scene back up (at least, I think you took it down before)! Hilarious!
