  • no someone else is going to do the justice for me(irony).

this is what most pepole think these days...

  • Huh. Let's see... I have an OPTION to stop and pry a person out of a burning car... I have an OPTION to swim out and save a drowner... I have an OPTION to charge into a burning building.

Make you a deal. Make it OPTIONAL for me to perform the surgery or prescribe the drugs and I will be on board 100%... then at least it will be an apples-to-apples comparison. :)

  • May I add # 2 military spending: China-$85 Billion # 3 France-$65 Billion # 4 UK-$65 Billion # 5 France-$58 Billion # 6 Germany-$46 Billion # 7 Japan-$46 Billion # 8 Italy-$40 Billion # 9 Saudi Arabia-$38 Billion # 10 India -$30 Billion and sum of them all is ONLY $473 billion. which is less than what our $600 Billion PER YEAR military spending.
  • Funny how this country can spend $600 BILLION dollars PER year on war spending but no, we can't afford $900 billion dollars for 10 year on health care. Did I mention we spent $600 billion per YEAR on war? that's like...$6 Trillion over last 10 years?

  • Well done. Thank you for this.

  • Who is denied healthcare? who?

  • Are you ignorant of the reasons that many are denied coverage? A family member with clinical depression was hospitalized briefly in the Seventies. Later when she applied for health insurance through her job, she included the M.H. inpatient treatment in her medical history -- insurance company turned her down. She was forced to lie in order to get coverage later at another job and insurance group.

  • O you thought I said coverage? It's pretty clear that I said healthcare. The lady in that story sounds like a liar. That's insurance fraud also.

  • Oh, I made an error. You did say "health care," which all can receive, even if it means E.R. waiting rooms, jammed with patients with everything from ear infection to acute appendicitis -- which WE taxpayers pay for when the patients have no health care insurance COVERAGE.

As for the woman in my example, today most insurance companies would not turn her down for a M.H. hospitalization that occurred 30 years ago but in the next few years after it occurred, such was the case.

  • Nice video, get's the message across.

  • Great video, great message.

  • to Chainspell,

do u meant because they are NOT Christians, therefore they deserve to die?!?!?!? I have a feeling that's how you see it.

  • There are things that cannot be totally privatized: The Healthcare is one of them.

  • Why not? What stops us from fully privatizing it? It was private for thousands of years and did just fine. It wasn't until the government got involved that we began to have problems.

  • That is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen written.

  • im lucky i live in canada =P

  • We absolutely DO need healthcare insurance reform NOW. A friend of my teenage daughter worked for his uncle at a small business, uninsured. When he began having abdominal pain and vomiting, he put off seeing a doctor, hoping it would go away. Wound up in the E.R. severely dehydrated, in great pain, and a scan showed necrotic bowel -- Crohn's disease. Had I.V. fluids for 24 hours before the surgery to save his life. If he'd had health insurance that he could afford, he'd have had care sooner.

  • No he wouldn't have. He put off seeing a doctor. That was his choice. Health insurance had nothing to do with it.

  • If you read my post again, freaka, you'll understand that he could NOT afford to see a doctor sooner. It's $80 to $100 for an appointment with a general practitioner now -- are YOU insured and pay just a co-pay, or do you pay the whole cost when you go?

  • Best of the 20, Well conceived, on message and beautifully executed. You got my top votes. Hope you win and this one airs. Thanks for making the effort for all of us.

Think it's the right reason we want the public option as well; because it will help more people live better and suffer less.

  • This ad, perhaps better than any of them, hits all the right buttons. Truly outstanding.

  • WOW.

    Yes.

    We CAN!

  • Best of the twenty, in my opinion.

  • The video is fine. But instead of calling it "Public Option" we should probably call it "Individual Choice" -- because the word "public" can be interpreted as "socialist" which is not a popular word in this country, even though we already have "public assistance" , medicare and Social Security. When things are good, people don't want government to "meddle." But when things are bad, the Government does not do enough.

  • Changing the name does not change the facts. Page 92 of the new bill explicitly says that even if I like the coverage I am getting now, after 5 years that coverage will change whether I want it to or not. You call that "choice?"

  • Link to the cited page, a specify exactly what you mean by change.

Part of the reform bills is equalizing costs so that the fit pay as much as the sick. This of course means that the fit will pay more, and the sick will pay less. Furthermore, since the bill focuses on long-term savings through prevention, in the short to mid-term prices will rise with preventative care now being universal and reduced reactive care, which is already universal, demands taking time to materialize.

  • 1st it was "Public Option" now Pelosi wants to call it "consumer choice" & dempomom thinks "individual choice" has a nice ring. It doesn't matter, 'cause after 5 yrs, choice is gone. It becomes one-size-fits-all. If my employer covers a,b,c & it is just the right coverage at the right price, I only have 5 years of that coverage. 'Cause if HC Czar says every plan has to cover a,b,c + d,e,f then I lost my preferred plan & prems increase. Page 92 of the new bill lays it out. Broken promise (LIE)

  • I agree that lifestyle plays a big role in our health and we have to take responsibility for it. Having said that, many people suffers illness through no fault of their own, just the luck of the draw. For instance, someone with genetic disorder, hereditary condition such as diabetes, heart problems, serious allergies; illness caused by blood transfusion, accidents, etc. For these people, I think Health Insurance is a life safer, not enabler.

  • This is one of the best if not the best of the 20 top videos. Some of the negative comments must have been made by someone who has a good health plan and never had to use it. The government does NOT want to take over health care, that is health insurance loppyists propaganda. As a former health care provider it amazed me how someone working for an insurance company with nothing more than a high school diploma was deciding what kind of care my patients would or would not receive.

  • Brilliant Video! Health Care is A Fundamental Human Right, Not A Privilege.

  • No American should ever lose sleep over the worry of being ill, or being abandoned when they are at there weakest and most vunerable moment. We are the United States of America. WE MUST PROTECT AND SERVE ALL IN THEIR TIME OF NEED. We must have a PUBLIC OPTION, so "all" will be insured. OUR NATION IS ONLY AS STRONG AS ITS PEOPLE.

  • How about NO unless you plan to pay directly and not steal our tax dollars. We have too much public debit and it is climbing under BO's horrible programs. There are better ways that would help drive down costs. Not raid our government for a socialist option. Put your own money into motion to help people!

  • 1) It's hard to see how shaving $100 billion off our deficit amounts to "stealing our tax dollars", but I'm sure the big 3's corporate executives would beg to differ.

    2) If the public option were "socialism", it'd be SINGLE PAYER. FYI, Ronald Reagan said the same thing about our communist Medicare. Look how horrible that turned out! ;)

    3) Put our money into motion? Yes! Google "National Association of Free Clinics" & donate now, and get a free clinic stood up in the conservative states! =D

  • 1). a 100 billion ain't much compared to the trillions he and democrats have been throwing around that will not fix our economy or create jobs.

2). medicare, SS, medicaid are almost broke. A giant ponzi scheme. post office, freddie mac/fanny are failing government controlled "businesses". You still trust them? WOW suckers are born still born everyday!

3). great idea. no gov option! how about real reform of the market and read the bill before blindly accepting it at face value.

  • If the bill costs $900 billion, the limit Obama proposed, than isn't that $900 billion more that the government can give back to the people instead of feeding it's inefficiencies?

  • Actually, it's not. Here's why:

    1) POTUS is adamant & on the record that he will not sign any heathcare bill that adds to the deficit (longterm savings must be greater than the short-term costs).

    2) That $900 billion figure only accounts for the costs (not the savings).

    3) The CBO, who hasn't been shy about scrutinizing any of the previous proposals, will all over the final result like a Bank CEO on a $20,000 toilet bowl.

  • Having nearly 50 million people without healthcare is something absolutely inconceivable in Europe (I'm Italian). It's time for America to take a moral lead on this as well!

  • Well Europe swallowed the socialist pill and those who are denied healthcare due to the government reducing costs is not very moral? Is it? Our government broke the system with medical programs that don't pay market value for services rendered, restricted competition, allowed medical malpractice to destroy doctors, and other issues they created... They have been proven to be unable to run social security and other entitlement programs. why would trust them now? only a moron would.

  • Excellent video!

  • Powerful video, although a couple of the titles are hard to read when they are against the bright background...might want to rectify that

  • Annual US Tobacco related death(year2000)- 435,000 deaths Thats 10x non-insurance deaths.

  • That's also about 100x more than the number of Americans dead than from the Iraq war (~4200), and about twice the number of women who were sexually assaulted in 2007 (~248,000). So don't be shy--please be a little more explicit about what you're implying!

Don't get me wrong--tobacco related deaths are a serious and sobering fact; but it doesn't dwarf the necessity for correcting the problems that American families are facing with healthcare. (And other serious issues.)

  • I would just like to see out of the 44000 that die from a "lack of insurance" what the physical cause of their death was. I would be willing to bet that many of the deaths were due to lifestyle choices, Ie..drinking, smoking, drugs, diet and lack of exercise and not from a lack of insurance.

We can give everyone insurance and that's fine but unless people take responsibility for their own health it will be useless. Health Insurance isn't a fixall its an enabler. The biggest fixall is ourselves.

  • So if 10% of the 44000 died not due to their own health choices, that's okay?

  • Never said that. My point is there are much bigger killers of the population than lack of insurance. You can have the best insurance plan in the world and it is not going to do diddly for you if YOU don't take care of yourself. If you have hereditary problems you have to do everything possible YOURSELF on top of what the Dr prescribes to increase your chance at longevity. I dont have a problem with insurance for all but personal responsiblity must play a factor in its administration.

  • To use your term, health insurance may be an enabler but what about the people who do take care of themselves, do they not have the right to be able to afford health insurance? What happens if you should fall and have to have surgery? What about the people who were born with 3 strikes against them? What do we tell them, sorry bub but you're not entitled. My boyfriend is one of those people. No health insurance but born with a lot of problems. Doesn't he deserve the right to have insurance?

  • Did you read what I wrote? When I say health insurance is an enabler I mean it does its part in prevention but some is up to you.(Not talking about birthdefects.) I talking about the people that are told they need to quit: Smoking, drinking, drugs, change their eating habits lifestyle, etc and refuse. Then blame everyone else for their medical problems or want a fix all when the big medical problem arises. My last line stated I dont have a problem with insurance for all.

  • I'm talking about the 28 year old junkie who just had heart surgery at taxpayer expense and then had drugs snuck into his hospital room during his recovery. Or the grandmother that was told to quit smoking and the minute she left the hospital after her heart attack fired up a cigarette because they are too stubborn. Do those who blatently refuse to do what their Dr tells them to really deserve insurance? When do we as a society start putting some of the blame back on ourselves.

  • Obviously you don't know what addiction is. And yes, I did read what you said. If I were to lose my job, I will no longer be able to use my crappy health insurance. I'm 54 years old and not getting any younger. At this point I can not afford to do what needs to be for me, it costs to much with the insurance I do have. I need dental work, which is tied in to your health, but can't afford it. I'm doing what I have to do survive. That's what a lot of people are having to do.....survive.

  • I know what an addiction is. I dipped Copenhagen snuff for 30 years then 2 1/2 years ago I DECIDED TO QUIT. Did it cold turkey, no patches, no gum, no nothing. JUST MY WILLPOWER. I went through the nicotine withdrawel, yes it is an addiction. Even a year after I had quit I would get what I call "triggers" that would make me want a chew. BUT I ALWAYS SAY NO, I exercise and try and watch what I eat and take my 2 meds. I am for helping all that TRULY WANTS HELP but the need to do their part also.

  • A good friend of my brother died from addiction. When I was a child, the last time I saw a great uncle was when he was put in the back of a squad car after passing out on his parents porch. My mind has blanked on what happened in the middle. He died in a sanitarium of alcohol addiction. My grandfather was into Copenhagen, but sorry it's a far cry from drugs and alcohol. Glad you gave it up, though. Mouth cancer can be a bitch.

  • I know you will probably say its not a "Real addiction" and I don't care. I now what I went through to quit. And the only person that can make a person who is addicted to something quit it, is that person themself. YOU have to want to quit. No one can make you quit unless they lock you up and never let you out. I have never said I'm against the govt helping anyone. But people should always strive to get out from under the umbrella of the govt. Some may always need it but others just abuse it.

  • And I could probably be an ass and say "You state you can't afford dental but obviously you can afford internet access and you probably have cable TV. But those are necessities right. I have seen people have to truly "survive" when I was overseas. We haven't got to the part yet where we are having to really....survive.

  • Just so that you know, yes I have cable and internet access but my roommate pays for that. Not that it's any of your business. I have also seen so many people in my community struggle to survive. My state is broke, we have the second highest unemployment rate (about 4 of my friends have been unemployed for a year plus) in the States, and highest ranking in foreclosures. People are having to give up a lot just to get by. Some of that is their health insurance.

  • When my own problems arose I changed my lifestyle completely. I doing everything I possibly can to avoid a problem happening any sooner than it will. I'm doing my part because I recognize my meds are not going to be able to do it all themselves. I am doing my part because its MY responsibility. I recognize my responsibility and I'm doing something about it. Some will always need our help (like your boyfriend). No problem with that. I don't know how else to get my point across.

  • wait if u dont hav healthinsurance ur house catches on fire?

so healthcare prevents fires, you from drowning, and you from being depresed or even getting in car accidents

i want healthcare its like super roids

  • ummm The American's has a Healthcare Noobs

  • The American's has a Healthcare

Me are so smart look how talk Now Capitalization

  • sermo(dot)com/reform/overview

  • Ahhh...geeez and the Google search once you drill into the sources it comes to a bunch of single-payer advocacy groups that are pushing this fallacy. And you nitwits still think these political hacks that are actually determining what goes into the legislation are genuinely offering this as a "competitive option?"

  • There is NO way to quantify 44000 die a year from lack of health care. None whatsoever. That is a farce and Scientific American is a Left-Wing propaganda think tank. They probably pray to lord Michael Moore.

  • Prove it. I can tell you that the best way to find out is to go to any County hospital and ask those that are sitting in the emergency room if they have any type of health insurance. Ask how many of them can afford to go to a doctor. Furthermore, ask a medical professional what they want. The current health insurance fraud does not do timely pay, does not allow for a lot of life-saving procedures, and takes their time on making decisions.

  • The burden of proof is on the one making the claim.

IF those people had gotten care, is there really any way to prove that they would not have died, anyway? Unless you have the 44,000 names and a direct line to God, the answer is no.

  • wao, wao, wao. excellent....

  • @ cdurden0 - a simple google search of "44000 die a year from lack of health care" yields a most reputable website link to a Scientific American report on a new study that revealed just that.

  • The best one so far... Powerful, direct messaging, strong. 5 Stars! Congrats, hope you'll make it.

  • gotta read it .. no dialog pet peav .. now in low res video .. dangerous / stopping on interstate in that spot / accident x2 / maybe its police car dashcam

  • This is a very straightforward and powerful message.

  • By far the best out of the 20. this one got a perfect score in my book.

  • Look up the Harvard study titled "Health Insurance and Mortality in US Adults" published in the American Journal of Public Health. It's all there.

  • I love this video! Its the best of the 20. Its the only one that slaps you in the face to how important reform is.

  • You had me at the start with the compelling footage, then you lost me at the pretty faces.
