Chompsky claims that the brutal repressive Islamic government is a threat to it's own people. This is typical zionist propaganda and only helps to make war more likely.Americans need to demonize their enemies and give them a reason to go to war.Chompsky plays right into their hands. The vast majority of Iranians support their government.
Iran with a nuclear bomb is likely to cause nuclear proliferation in the middle east. ahmadinejad autocrat style of government has committed serious human rights violations, and the sponsorship of terrorism which should be condemned in its many forms. I feel sorry for the Iranian people who have been caught up in this totally against their will
@tom0rickard This theoretical/potential prolifferation (current evidence is against possibility that Iranian actually is technically able to produce high quality uranium used in weaponry) is miniscule campared to the amount of nuclear weapons floating around after the demise of USSR. Nobody even ever mentioned the latter in any disscusion on security. So to suggest the iranian nuclear threat is indeed laughable and odd.
Absolutely bullshit,, Iran has breached human rights law and does not matter what you know about it's international affairs. Iran sponsors terrorism all over the world,.. you stupid democrats are so naive,, I am Iranian myself and I know soon Iranian government will be equipped with nuclear bomb and then are all doomed,, fucking idiots,, see how democracy has been taken advantage by extremest Muslims when they emigrate to European countries!!
@payambreaker This is exactly the type of mentality which causes wars. The Iranian govt is of course a threat to its own citizens but it is not stupid enough to annihilate itself (just like Chomsky points out). If you still have friends & family in Iran you should have learnt by now a US invasion will likely kill them or make them refugees. If you want to bring down the Iranian govt, that's a brilliant idea - you're probably not Iran so you can freely support the internal anti-govt movement.
What worries me is who is going to take this great mans place when he is gone. If only more people would listen to what Chomsky has to say instead of buying into all the propaganda and bullshit and blind patriotism.
where does this man get his energy still at his age??? And how is he able to retain so much information after all these years!! he must live a very healthy life.
@nameoffeather He doesn't believe in that as a system. It might make sense if there's a large, broad popular movement that en masse chooses him as their representative, but it's not something you ought to decide to do on your own accord.
Chomsky has pretty much lost perspective in the last couple of years.
I'm from the Middle East, and I can assure you; Iran doesn't give a flying **** about Palestine. They're trying to exert their influence on the Arab Shiite populations (expansionism in the Gulf), turning Lebanon into a theocracy through their proxy party Hezbollah, and above all a threat to its own people.
Israel isn't exempt either. Just please do not always change the subject to Israel whenever Iran comes up.
@5tranger The point is it's not a threat to us as the US would have you believe. As Chomsky has said in the past; there's no real correlation between how a nation treats it's own people and how it acts overseas.

Iran has never attacked any foreign power except on defending themselves. A stark difference with united states...

Well, forgetting the fact that he is one of the few human beings suitable for the role, his first act would to be sack himself.

@darkillity Iran doesnt have a history of invading its neighbours. He just stated that Iran's military is structured for defensive means.

i agree with almost everything Chomsky stated expect one thing which is
iran gov't is a treat to ira ppl!!! just because they kill thousands of activists dont
make them a treat, Thats a sacristy technique used from 100s of years ago by politicians to control the masses. Nothing new.
you should go to iran just like Sean Penn and Reese Erlich and see it from
your perspective.
