  • 5:56, to 7:03 must have been edited, (Both film and sound), by some complete and utter, utter cunt! Ruining some of Oldfield's best work in one minute! Bastards!

  • Many Thanks for Upload! Quality - ok... Cannot have everythings...

  • amazing man, all my childhood memories are in his music. genius

  • Ommadawn Pt.1 is my favourite Oldfield track. The beginning is just so cool, and the end...even listening to it sends chills through my spine. And whenever I hear it, I just think of some sort of medieval battle. Don't know why...it's just so enthralling.

  • 7.01 - 'to Hergest Ridge, you must come'...?

  • I can remember walking into record stores throughout the 80's looking for Mike's latest albums only to find Oingo-Boingo under the O's :-(

  • 4:34 intro to most badass video/amagery of a musician ever! Only because of the epicness with which Oldfield bestowed upon the Earth with Ommadawn...Secluding himself from everone and everything to be one with Truth and create something so incredible...breathtaking!

  • That's Billie Holiday in 06:28 !!!

  • what i admire about musicians like oldfield most is their passionate drive -

it is easy to have a brillant idea, but to follow it with such restless perfection is really something very special

  • There's no words for this kind of music

Mike Oldfield he's a bloody musical genious!

Hey tell me something.. Does he wanted to cry at 3:47?

  • The voice-over on here sounds very similar toJohnny Greenwood from Radiohead.

    Whose the dude at 7:00?

  • Radiohead and Oldfield are the musicians of the '900

  • So true just about everyone used to smoke back then, and you could smoke anywhere you wished lol, inside buildings, buses, trains, restaurants etc.!!

    Boy have times changed.

  • Richard Branson owes so much to Mike Oldfield and his music . Income made from the sales of Tubular Bells put the Virgin label on the map. After saying that though he did back up the venture himself so he did take a huge risk especially when the big record companies did'nt believe it was a viable proposition,

  • MIke STOP smokeing !!!

  • 1980's man... give the guy a break tehre were no health risks back then.

  • The things that you cant hear the words that the chorus say is why Mike want and wanted to put only the music in his records and not the words, they are like something that completes the symphony...How can he do these things?I want and I to be like him!

  • Mike Oldfield is the best musician ever and my favourite one of all!Ommadawn is his best record-I must say!-so,the thing that they used a part of Tubular Bells to The Exorcist is very..how can i say it.....Anyway,this vid is very old but i doesnt care.If i see him ill ask him an autogrph or talk with him...maybe!

  • get a hair cut u hippy!!

    Joke

  • The chant starts at 4:23. I could listen to it all day. I just wish Mike Oldfield wouldn't keep breaking the spell with his disturbing interludes. Any chance of a re-edit with the harsh bits taken out?

  • .....y luego se fue a ibiza y la cago......!

  • he's a true humble craftsman,,,very rare...his honesty and humanity kinda reminds me of cobain.(who he's as cute as)...i cynically wonder how mike would have fared growing up in the pinhead u.s. (as that interview w the crabby fogey hints at)

  • @lsdmadman He would have liked living among literate people (who capitalize "I" and "U.S.," that kind of stuff) who wouldn't cause his childhood to be a miserable trauma like it was among American obedient doggies, the Brits.

  • The ending section of ommadawn pt1 has to be the most amazing piece of music i've ever heard. Too many guitarists focus on lightning speed licks to ever delve as deep inside their emotions as mike did in that final solo. Though not outstanding technically, it conveys more emotion than ive ever heard in a guitar solo. Mike is a genius. Please do one more tour before you retire!

  • El mejor disco de la historia

  • this is amazing!!

    so professional.

  • i love ommadawn, mike is a musical genius, songs of distant earth is great too, love all his music.

  • At 4:20. Mike, the genius, in the dark, alone, old music machines surrounded, smoking, listening. Beautiful

  • I hope Richard Branson sends Mike a Christmas card each year to thank him for making him a fortune. (I know they had a falling out) Ommadawn- it sounds like she is singing "amadáin ag ceol" which would be the Irish for "a fool singing" I always wondered if Maggie Reilly had any Irish conections?

  • The one who sings this is a woman named Clodagh Simmonds, NOT Maggie Reilly.

The Irish line (the one that's easily caught by native Irish speakers) goes: "ta me an amadán le ceol" (I"m The fool With the music"); however, in Oldfield's book, "Changeling," he acknowledges the english lyrics as:

"Daddy's in bed, The cats drinking milk, I'm an idiot, And I'm laughing"

  • Wait, are you talking about the vocal at the end of side one of Ommadawn? That's Irish? I recall in the liner notes of the original LP, it said it was "nonsense" that was made up so that Simmonds would be singing words, instead just going "la, la, la" or whatever.

  • Wasn't Clodagh Simmonds in a group Mellow Candle? They were a great band.

  • check out Fovea Hex.

  • nice post. thanks. But in part 1 you have a piece from the Exorcist from Tubbular Bells?

  • That's because Friedkin (director of "The Exorcist") RIPPED from "Tubular Bells" to make the "Exorcist Theme". Friedkin SHOULD have used Tangerine Dream for the score...

  • Sorry, can you explain please? What is the correlation between Tangerine Dream- oldfield- ommadawn- tub bells- the exorcist?

Also I don't recall the exorcist part from TB's had still anything to do with Ommadawn? Am I missing info?

  • On the sleeve of ommadawn, the photo of the people names the people who were all lined up but it seems to have 2 names missing, i think it is the 2 females on the left of the picture. I think ommadawn is a fine album and im realy getting into mike oldfield, id never got into his music before now. i got my freind into him too, and hes into getting the quite unknown albums like me, the new album sounds great.

  • How honourable to say that he doesn't want to make an exhibition of himself, he'd prefer to let the music do the talking-he's by far my favourite composer, if not my favourite guitarist-the DVDs are awesome-the layering of the music in Ommadawn and Incantations is bloody genius

  • Amazing video, just don't understand why they have all the random video clips at the end with what is Mike's music :) I'm guessing Mike is stood around Hergest Ridge?

  • Sinchronicity:Went to the mountains and lost myself searching for Unity.Back in the city of man found my Ommadawn, long ago forgotten, so i recovered the mountains of Divinity.

  • this film has excerpts of the only original version of Ommadawn that you can find and listen in U-tube.Though the quality of sound is not good and the theme is edited,it's still a great post. The album is unfindable in my country( been searchin').

  • i have still got the origanal album on vinal

and tubbular bells.most of his others as well.

  • Thanks for posting this. A rare documentary. I think there are only 2 albums of his I don't own, with no desire to purchase them. Overall, his entire catalogue is genius.

  • thank you

  • he was such a troubled young man,why was this??what happened to him in his childhood??

  • His mother developed serious mental problems, which made for a very difficult childhood.

  • he's got a book out called changling,it explains all,really worth a read

  • Thanks very much for posting. A full-length documentary DVD should be made about this made.

  • What a find!!! I never knew footage was available of this period (His best in my opinion)

    Cheers

  • I presume this is from the time he lived near Hergest Ridge. Looks like some footage of him walking there.

  • awesome thank you so very much for posting such an interesting documentary about the music business's hermit mister mike oldfield genius !

  • Great document. I considerer Mike Oldfield one of the major genious of music. Sadly, from my point of view, after his first 4 LP´s he was over.

  • What about Amarok???

  • Thanks for posting this!!

  • rare and lovely! Thanks for sharing this.

  • People like Mike Oldfield deserve a place in world music history. Simply fantastic...

  • I never get tired of listening to his music. Just brilliant!

  • Thanks for this video, I have been a M.O. fan since Tubular Bells in the 70's and this is about the time when all I listened to was Mike Oldfield.
