@MrSmallANDLoud no need to shout ;) The bad guy (Mark) is wanted by the police for recently shooting someone- that's what Mark is talking about in his monologue. So they probably considered Mark armed and dangerous even if they couldn't verify for sure that he was armed before shooting.
I can't believe it was Mark, I didn't want to believe it. All Mark was trying to do was help out Bryon and his mom, and now, he is too far gone. In the end of the movie, Mark told Bryon that things were going to be all right
@LilMsKrisProductions Yeah. And they've got different last names and different ages (Steve is an adult in this while Johnny is his SON). I know they're different, but I can dream :D
@LilMsKrisProductions Well, there kind of is. This hitchhiker is speculated to be Mark from That Was Then, This is Now. In That Was Then, This is Now, there's a character named Curtis who is actually Ponyboy Curtis from the Outsiders. The novels are related, but not too closely.
@JekyllsFacade I know, but I'd like the whole idea of a huge crossover, you dig? Like all of them getting together, like despite the different time the novels take place. I think it'd be awesome to see all of them get along, or not get along. :P
@thetallships Can u put more scenes up from the movie like when tex was shot, or when he and johnny put caps in the school type writers before the day of the final test? Plz write back! Thx!!
@starlight605 well, I mean, I could, but- again- Youtube would just have the videos taken down if I did and then nobody could see them. However, you can try Amazon or Netflix if you want to see the whole movie. :)
I love the line " Nobody said 'Let's go cruizing for Pizza, move iT." I couldn't see it in videostores. I'll ask cashiers if they have it. i hope the special features are cool if they have Tex.
No, but you don't find out in this film- this is the only scene with Mark, and the book doesn't talk much about him either. The novel written before Tex, "That Was Then This Is Now" is actually about Mark and his friend (named Bryon).
is it? I was going off an NYT interview I read, I'll check IMDB...says they came out in the same year, hmm. I'll take your word for it :)
Mark was a drug dealer who was turned in by one of his friends. He shot his friend in retaliation for turning him in, and is trying to escape the police.
@snoochy2 Bryon the main character from That was then this is now turned Mark in for dealing acid and he hated him for it. After getting out of prison is geuss he came after Bryon but didn't finish him off.
I love Jim Metzler, and I thought he brought a lot of humanity to the character. In the book, Mason finally breaks down when Tex gets shot, but in the film, Metzler's expressions show the complexity of his emotions.
I have to say, I was initially a little skeptical since he looks quite a bit older than 18, but I thought he did an excellent job. Mason was by far the most sympathetic to me, even with Tex getting shot!
Just a few minutes before watching this, I read that part of the book! Haha I love that part: "Just shut up and drive, Cowboy."

I think its cool how S.E. Hinton put different characters from different books in the storys.
Like PonyBoy is in That Was Then and This Is Now.
and.
I just finished Tex... didn't realize it was mark... I wanna go re-read this part.
monkiesrule88 2 years ago 10
@monkiesrule88 Yeah, I love that, too. And Steve is in Rumblefish, if its the same Steve. Theres a Johnny in Tex, but its a different guy, I think.

No way! The hitchhiker is Mark Jennings. He's from That Was Then This Is Now. I didn't catch that when I read Tex. I can't believe he died.

Wait, that was Mark? Was he the one who went to jail at the end of That was Then This is Now?
