how do you upload footage from this camera to a mac because whenever i hook up my camera it doesn't recognize it on my mac. PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@baconbits12321 have to have the canon software has to deal with the AVCHD codec that Canon gives you. Check the Canon web site or software you have for ability to edit the AVCHD
@bestamerica ....shutter stays open shorter time less time for light to hit the sensor.....the great high speed images you see on discovery or nat geo is shot daytime or with lots of light. using cameras with much bigger and more sensitive sensors or much faster (light sensitive) film stock....

@JeanAbelNoire thank you .. back then I was interested in shutter, and look at SD rez , as my end users would not wait for HD progressive downloads...nor had bandwidth for 720p or 1080i...... today situation dif.
well this is AVCHD codec . takes major horsepower to edit ....and then to transcode to whatever format you want including h.264, etc. Whole bunch of web sites out there on pros and cons... just realize a tape you have on the shelf, with this it's "files" to manage and backup. I'm happy to say bye bye to tape...good luck!
@HookahReview Then I was interested in shutter, and look at SD rez , as my end users would not wait for HD progressive downloads...nor had bandwidth for 720p or 1080i...... today situation dif. thanks!
i'm having playback issues with this camera and premiere pro, its all glitchy and horrible and won't bounce to widescreen formats. Its CS4 and i'm on highest quality in the camera. Any idea's would be great. my machine is an 8core macpro so it should be fine.
@Dariyman87 After editing your footage, assuming you are using final cut pro 7, click on FILE, then scroll down to SHARE, click on that and then a dialog box appears with options to go into compressor or as a matter of fact, into YOUTUBE directly, and you can sort out the rest from there.
Look for program that can deal with AVCHD format. Adobe, Avid, i-movie, Sony, etc. Most of these give you the "upload to YouTube" options PS ..Need good computer, RAM, fast drive, video card all will help.
Yes YouTube went from 720 to 1080 on some videos. Frankly encode to larger file is best way to get better quality than this. I can tell you played back off camera via HDMI to 1080 monitor it looks really good.
yeah, either upload the original file or encode it to 1080p x264 with aac with as a .mp4 or .mkv file that way it will still be great quality but wont take as long to upload.
What is the purpose of MXP and 30P, what do they mean and what do they do? Also shall I get the s10 or s11? I can't make up my mind. Oh, what does shutter do?
MXP (24 Mbps) highest "capture mode" on this camera.
30P is 30 frames per second progressive recording
Get the 11. Shutter is how fast the camera "curtain" opens and closes. Faster shutter setting allows it to try and "keep up" with fast moving objects like rain drops. Most cameras have "sports", "landscape", portrait, functions which put camera in mode. so do these canon models.
@CasualLuxuries I would say get the 10. The only difference with the s11 is that it has 2x as much internal memory (64 GB), but it also costs 300 bucks more.
You can buy a 32 GB sdhc card for like under 100 bucks.
HF S11 also adds Dynamic SuperRange OIS, supposed to compensate better while walking and at wide angles, and Advanced Snapshot mode, which means you can pull four-second clips from videos in playback mode, as well as in capture mode.
That's great, I really like the comparison. Most people just show "test" videos of the camera with automatic settings and with everything in focus so it really says nothing that helps with movie-making.
Can you lock/control the exposure with this camera? How about the ISO?
Wow! What a video quality! Thank you so much! Did you use some special lens to get such an astonishing sharpness (like 1:20)? Or only HFS10? What can you recommend me to buy - this camera or Sony XR500? Thank you SO much again!
I was starting a price war between 4 camera stores until they all folded and I came out with the HFS Lol, love the thing... just need to choose some software now :l ???????????
More memory on the new HFS11 version 64GB of internal flash memory extra level of image stabilization, and compatibility with Canon's RA-V1 LANC adapter.
Amazing! Can I please know, how much better is the image before you put it on Youtube? I'm so close to buying this camera, but there's always the scary prospect of a better one coming out the week after. Will this make me go WOW as I remember the IXUS III did years ago?
I'm looking for something to make films with, I just want a crisp and fluid image, for the rest... Tarkovsky did with less.
Camera outputs HDMI direct to HDMI imput on big screen. Amazing. Good lens. HOWEVER. it requires major computer power to edit .. I"m a fan of this camera on a tripod ...think thru workflow prior to purchase. Check out the flip HD ....less cash and pretty cool!
Great video anmd thanks very much for uploading/I, like the user above am very close indeed to buying one of these as the quality is just out of this world.
When you write 'major computer power', would you try to quantify that?
I have a Intel quad core system with 4 gig of ram, though each core runs at a modest 2.4 GHz.
What's your opinion?
and as an example, what's your editing pc vital stats?
I'm trying to get some idea of whether my pc will handle the editing.
Vista 64 bit i7 2.67 with 6gb ram, external G Tech Raid 2 firewire. & a Mac Pro w/ G Tech Raid 3 USB running CS4. Either system works to covert from the mts to editing takes a while. Lots of forums on AVCHD. Good luck!
Thanks for your reply, I have since I learned that I can use my Intel quad core Q6600 and will respond better if I over clock it some, which I'm happy to do after reading many positive comments on the forums about over clocking that chip.
great video! very cool. i love my canon hf s20 but have not had the chance to use most of its manual functions... yet :)
