I had a 67 it had a black and white seat and 68 with blue. white seat . the 69 had a red . white .blue seat that was round back seat. I did not have 69 Dad sale all of them that year But we did get 3 1970 machine for all of us and in 1972 the seat was all black and the 1973 was a ss433 had a drak blue seat . Dad closed his shop in May 1 1973
@ss433ron it's a 1969 model B3 which is the bottom line, low dollar machine. Fore the most part, You can tell a 69 by the lack of ribs running down the s-shaped hood, dual vents on either side of the round headlight and the hinged hood. These features were absent from the 68s. The 68s had a riveted on hood which made belt replacement very difficult and a gas cap directly in front of the headlight.
@ss433ron Sorry to say but its a 1969 !!! The 68 had the gas fill in front !! Look at the 1969 model 150 but they are both pretty much the same exept for the gas tank...
My old Hirth 300 is wonderful! It will idle at about 500 rpm and run great! I'm pretty fussy about the carb parts I use though and I only run forked inlet levers that rarely ever get stuck. The only downside is it will shake every nut and bolt on the sled loose...except for the motor.
It's amazing that something could run that rough and not self destruct lol. We bought a 1969 "Deluxe" (Wooo Hooo) it had a 17.5 hp Hirth and a red stripe on the seat. It ran even rougher than the 15, sounded like it fired every 3rd stroke at idle. Cool that you still have yours, sure wish I still had mine.
Talk about good memories! Back in the middle to late 70's we had a 69 with the 12HP, a 1970 with like a 19HP and a 1971. Those ole' girls were such a blast to ride. I remember very well how much those engines shook. I'd sure like to have one just for nostalgia's sake.
Old Hirth motors are tanks! I love my Yamaha powered Sno-Jets but these are iron blockers. I fired up my 68' for the first time. The clutch bound up and she took off without me. I ran to catch up. Good thing I could run faster than the sled.

shake? That's why you don't see those pretty blue airboxes on many of these. The motor's shake out the bolts!!

the answer to how fast is: as fast as you want to go, as long as its not over 15mph lol

the engine is shacking
excelsnowmobile1 2 years ago
single bangers are supposed to shake that much, itf you tighten it too much, all that'll do is break the mounts.
