My dad has a diesel SUV back in India. 3liter, 4cyl, 130hp and 300NM torque,, got all the tech that goes into a modern European diesel engine (Common rail direct injection, turbo-intercooler)-- You have to drive it to believe it. Good towing capability, Can go on all day on a highway at 90mph, emitting less pollution than a gasoline engine, gives about 28mpg with a fuel that costs about 20% less than regular gas. American should give diesel a chance.

Here in the United States, Diesel costs 15% more than regular gasoline. Diesel engines emit much dirtier exhaust, but a diesel four-door sedan can get as much as 50 mpg. They are hard to find though, because our air pollution controls are too strict for most European diesel passenger vehicles. Come visit America someday! A typical American family car will blow the doors off of most Indian sports cars.

@irale-I am in US right now & have driven and flown it all. Agreed that your V8s are good on freeways, but even a Civic can cruise at 70mph rite? I do most of my pleasure driving on backwater roads of central California where my friend's BMW can blow socks off any muscle car in the turns. Try to find a bluetec Merc and you'll know what I am talking about. Real driving is much more than drag racing. For me a fast car is waste if it doesn't handle well. Learn to shift gears then come & talk to me

Clarkson said it so he probably stretched the truth. just like in The Good the Bad and the Ugly DVD, he was racing a Mustang with another car and he said the Mustang had a V8 and still lost when it was actually the V6 model.

The 911 isn't the only car that "cleans" the air as it passes through it's induction/exhaust system. The process removes particulates and NOx that are harmful to humans and common smog-causing gases. It only works in especially polluted cities though, and CO2 emissions are still prevalent.
