  • Great camera - I own one and we actually use it for proff commercials and shortfilm production. Only thing we are puzzled about is the lack of manual control over the sound input. We use an external soundrecorder so its not really a big deal, but it would really be nice to have.

  • I own it....it is better than they advertise...but don't get me wrong, the video is great, but I won't use it, and I wonder if the price could be lower in a model without it for those who don't want it? The viewfinder is amazing! I can manually focus now!

I am happy they continue to improve on the small sensor cameras! One petty grievance: When will Canon give you something better than a big, cheap, walking Canon ad for a neck strap? Love the jpeg/RAW toggle button! Great fast menu!

  • @milkshakeuk So get the 5DmII then. It's the camera for portraits and models stupid. The 7D is for sports, birds and crap like that.

  • I use BOTH Canon and Nikon and whilst I love the idea of the Canon 7D (in some areas it catches up with NIKON in other areas Canon jumps ahead) but not the PRICE ! £1700 is far too much - its too near the Canon 5D Mk2 and almost £900 above a Canon 50D. Sorry Canon, the 7D has been designed by YOU to take the maximum money from US.

Still that wouldn't look good as a marketing strapline would it?

  • Yeah, but the d300s is $1800 usd. I don't get your point. It has a better autofocus than the 50D or the 5D/5D MkII, and is faster, the essentially the same IQ as the 50D. You make no sense.

  • @mikeismad61 I could had got the 7D with kitlens used for 9500 SEK, the 550D with kitlens new is about there. People try to sell their D300s with kitlens for 18000 SEK used!! You tell me which is the better deal ..

  • Don't get me wrong that that is exactly what you want for most work flow stuff it has taken me about 4 years to really crack Nikon. there is a difference in imaging theory between the two companies rather like windows and mac text rendering. If you look back at some of the best images from some of the worlds greatest photographers you will notice a lot of grain in an image but that adds to it. The issue for me is not noise it is the pattern of that noise

  • I want the d7 for commercial work its looks like a fantastic tool but i could not fall in love with it other than it allowing me to control the camera as i wish in fast pace situations.Canon have finally come up with something i think i could rely on for all my commercial work its where canon are best and they are back on track with the d7 they build tools to fill a need and i need this camera haha

  • i dont see the being true at all.

a lot of that is just editing.

  • For me i never use a canon for anything arty unless i want it to look quite flat and almost cartoon like. In editorial printing the actual print process uses flat colours far less range than you would expect form a print and that is where the canons really win as the colours tend to be much more vibrant and the processing enhances the edges and flattens out the detail within the image rather like a high pass filter and surface blur effect.

  • IMO..canon are th best quality cameras without question however, they do appear very bland compared to nikon, nikon make an effort on looks as well as quality but canon just stick to basics and flush out time after time the better quality high end pro camera, this also applies to consumer models, but for me if they made a little more emphasis on looks they would be the king of kings

  • When you analyse both images from a nikon and canon the nikons make the more natural pictures, canon rely on a hell of a lot of in camera processing to achieve the images. That is either good or bad thing depending on what you are after. To say the quality of canon is best is not really the full picture for the use of a better word. Canon design the cameras to take pictures that need little to no post processing out the box but often at a cost.

  • canon has been first with everything that photography as stood for, processor chips, speed, quality, i like nikon very much however, from my experience i have had canon are the best, 85% of photojournalists use canons, over 67% of post graduates in photography use canons, maybe their bodies are at fault in some ways, but let's not forget the glass, canons glass is for sure the very best, no doubt, no question IMO

  • I shoot both so I am really not in one camp nor the other. In regard to lens quality nikon has some lenses that without question are better optics than anything from canon but they lack the range and canon wins on fast lenses. It is not hard to see how canon got the market share as they were ideal for the paps and photojournalists time is money and you never want to miss a moment. The other features of the cameras were the deciding factor over the actual IQ.

  • i can name many companies that invented things first but then other companies have taken it and made it so much better. Nikon constantly put pressure on canon the company dynamics are not the same canon has its fingers in many more pies but that is not to say that if you come up with something first it is always going to be the best. minolta invented the auto focus but sony is all that remains of that legacy.

  • @atyl1972 What kind of fucking bullshit is this? Canon glass isn't the best, even so with no doubt .. You may have had a point if you where claiming something like "Nikon don't have an equivalent for Canons L-glass" or something such, but that would be all.

More users don't mean better equipment. Canon may have a wider range and push more bodies. Your speaking like "OMG Ford must be the best of cars", or something such ..

  • i will wait for the review for this camera before buying one. its the smartest move im gonna make.

  • seriously?

  • Nikon had the first motor in the lens? Nikon had first CMOS sensor? Nikon had the first full frame? Unfortunately Canon did all those. In fact, Nikon can't even make her own CMOS sensor, and processor NOW.

In terms of technology, and innovations, it's Canon always ahead. Wait, sorry, maybe half century ago Nikon made some film cameras.

  • Not full frame.

  • does it have a full frame sensor???

  • Its not full frame BUT it has a 100% viewfinder so basically you see what the sensor sees and captures.

  • It has an APS-C sensor.
