  • WOAH!

  • Spruce grove? I lived there as a small child :)

  • lol @ 0:56

  • My dad was there and experienced this tornado and I believe it was scary and some of edmonton is still recovering

  • that fucking public safety guy sounded like he was scared shitless

  • An event like Black Friday could potentially happen in North Carolina. Although monster F4 and F5 tornadoes are extremely rare, they have occurred in many parts of America and Canada east of the Rocky Mountains.

  • @Davemeister22 I was there. I was chief engineer of Edmonton House hotel and we were on the 35 floor, the Midwest properties Head office. all glass surround from the board room I had a panoramic view of the two weather fronts hitting and mixing together. It was incredible.

  • does black friday happen in north carolina?!!

  • July 18th certainly was crazy! I thought that a tornado was approaching Edmonton with the fast wind gusts and am glad that the storm didn't actually generate a funnel!

  • is tat black friday

  • No, this isn't Black Friday. It's just a simulation of a tornado warning that I made. The weird thing is that I produced this simulated disaster video just 2 months before the massive Edmonton storm which cleared out Capital Ex on July 18/09.

  • MMmmanastic1, this particular tornado warning simulation is fake and a fictional event based on what has happened in the past and will happen at some point in the future. What I don't understand is are there any specific things you are referring to as being fake? What??

  • fake fake fake

  • During this current extreme drought, dry lightning/extreme wind storms is what we're getting the most of without much rain as this place is as dry as a desert now. However, increased temperature, like this September and August, summer '07, '06 and '02 means more fuel for intense storms. This could bring with it more intense and storms to the Edmonton area of North America's plains and more intense tornadoes. Depending on how dry the climate will get, we could get mainly dry lightning though.

  • As well as Houston, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Milwaukee. These cities are all on the Great Plains and are either in the heartland of Tornado Alley or in fringe extensions of Tornado Alley. As global temperatures heat up, storms get more intense, frequent and widespread. In the Edmonton area I have one of two or a combination of two major predictions for the future of storms here. A drying climate is robbing storms of moisture and there could be mainly dry lightning storms in the future.

  • Especially in places like Windsor and off the shore of Lake Erie, high humidity off the lake and extreme summer heat generates the most twisters per square km there, but Alberta may receive higher overall numbers of tornadoes some years and it varies summer to summer. There are major cities other than Edmonton or Dallas in Tornado Alley/ northern Tornado Alley extension in North America. Some examples are: Calgary, Winnipeg, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, St. Louis, Tulsa, Austin

  • I agree with and am aware of a lot of your points, Mesedrew! In open countryside or remote areas, tornadoes often go unreported, but there is more damage overall these days with an increase in urban sprawl. As I stated in my previous comment, I sure that we will see major tornadoes like the Edmonton tornado of 1987 in the future, it's just a matter of time. Alberta has a lot of tornadoes compared to other parts of Canada, but parts of southern Ontario have higher densities of tornado occurrences

  • Oh by the way not trying to make you angry with my reply or anything, I don't wanna start a fight, i'm just stating facts that i have researched. but the one thing that grinds my gears is when someone says that the edmonton tornado was a freak event and that it won't happen again, or somene says that we don't need more funding into enviroment canada, cause Edmonton actually is the second most populated city in Tornado Alley which is on step down from Dallas TX wich is the most populated.

  • I agree that Alberta gets mainly weak tornadoes and that the 1987 Edmonton tornado was a freak event, but if the current trend of climate change and shifting weather patterns continue, we are in for some much worse tornadoes in the future. The southern part of the North American Great Plains (Tornado Alley) lies to the south of Alberta and as weather patterns continue to shift northwards, we are in for some much more extreme weather/storms in Alberta and other parts of Canada in the future.

  • Actually alberta sees more tornadoes than ontario does alone, and we do see strong tornadoes, i have lived here all my life and did alot of research of this. The edmonton Tornado was in fact 1 violent tornado out of 5 that hit alberta annually. the thing is, is that most tornadoes go unreported. my uncle is a storm chaser based in alberta and on his own time since 1993 he has seen alot of tornadoes that rarely make the news due to the fact there was no damage to buildings.

  • Oh and the statistics from enviroment canada is Alberta sees 33 Tornadoes a year where ontario sees 11 a year. i'm not trying to be a know it all, but also global warming isn't causing more tornadoes, but urban sprawl and more people are more aware than ever. many american storm chasers come up from Oklahoma to Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba as they have re drawn the Tornado Alley map now including these provinces. one thing that remains is our weather forecasting system is way outdated!

  • Yeah, rcarter105, tornadoes in fact hit Canada regularly! Did you see the Toronto/Ontario, Canada tornadoes in the news recently? If not, just Google it and you'll find a bunch of stuff on that. Also, try looking up on Google or Wikipedia these Canadian twisters: Edmonton Alberta tornado, Elie Manitoba tornado, Pine Lake Alberta tornado, Regina Saskatchewan tornado, Barrie Ontario tornado, Windsor Ontario tornado. These Canadian twisters were HUGE and deadly!!!

  • Yeah but you gotta think that only 15 tornadoes on average hit alberta and even if one did it would be very weak. the F4/ probable F5 was completely FLUKE

  • tornado!?!? damn to be honest i never knew tornados where canada really.

  • TheTubeGod, that sounds like a crazy situation that happened in West Edmonton Mall. The power outages and mishaps at the World Waterpark seem eerily similar to the massive hailstorm of July '04, but not nearly as intense. I'm also glad that the storm didn't take you out.

  • I was at West Edmonton Mall in the Water Park when the power started to surge. We were in the wave pool and everyone started clearing out when the power started to surge. We were in the restaurant afterwards and the power still continued to go in and out. We were told the storm was picking up. So we decided to quickly eat dinner and go. Once we got outside we were in the eye of the storm heading home to Westmount/Glenora. I was driving...I wasn't scared. I knew god wouldn't let me go just yet.

  • Wow, that power outage must not have been fun, labelskin! Did you see any funnel clouds? The one on July 18th knocked the power out briefly at my place in west Edmonton and the storm on the 26th brought with it a brilliant light show! This latest storm is reported to have collapsed one of the stages at Big Valley near Camrose and comes an eerie one day after the 22nd anniversary of the deadly 1987 F4 Edmonton tornado.

  • That huge storm that passed through last Saturday knocked my power out for over 36 hours.

  • MrGeekRune, I'm sorry to hear that your mom got hit in the head by golf ball sized hail! I hope she is alright! What an intense storm!

  • yeah on the weather net work i was looking and it said it can get to serve there could be a tornado sorry for spelling im 12 :p

  • That storm snapped my neighbour's tree right in half!!!

  • Damn i was camping in a tent trailer last night just north east of edmonton damn that storm was fricken viscious...

  • Yeah, Sk8tergirl126, I saw that intense thunderstorm in Edmonton on Saturday night!! My latest videos and background picture are of that severe storm and it was very wicked to watch, eh?

  • did everyone see that thunderstrom last night that Was CRAZY AWESOME i loved it the hail best part anyways crazy storm

  • yeah man i almost shit my pants there was a funnel cloud spotted too in sherwood park

  • I know!! I just finished producing my first video of the major, severe thunderstorm to hit Edmonton July 18th, 2009 and I have more pictures and video of the supercell thunderstorm on the way!

  • TORNADO WARNING IN EDMONTON NOW!!

  • We may not have had an actual tornado touch down near Edmonton or an actual supercell thunderstorm yet this year, but that doesn't mean that these weather events are impossible. Canada is no stranger to very bad weather! Have you ever heard of the following tornadoes? Edmonton, July 31, 1987, the Pine Lake, AB Tornado, July, 2000, the Elie, Manitoba tornado, 2007, the 1912 Regina tornado, the 1985 Barrie, ON tornado and 1946 Windsor, ON tornado. All these place in Canada had deadly twisters!

  • edmontons was worse my mom got hit in the head with hail the size of a golf ball

  • there isnt gonna be a tornadeo we havent even had a real thunderstorm yet so stop worrying

  • ur predictions are good

  • Yeah, I know!! It may not be a huge storm, but it's still potentially dangerous for the Edmonton area!

  • GameSupervision, when you say not true, what are you referring to? If you mean that the drought is not over, I agree. A few days of rain will not end it, but I looked up Environment Canada and at least in Edmonton, we received more rain in the last 24 hours than in the last close to 2 months. As for when you say a broadcaster would say the storm is tracking west or something, tornadoes always head in a northeasterly direction in the northern hemisphere.

  • that wasn't a broadcaster he would have said it was headed west or something at 40 km/h

  • not true

  • Wow, when did you guys have tornadoes and near exactly what town? Yeah, I think the driest days of the drought are over and we are overdue for some rain along with severe thunderstorms.

  • I live in a small town a couple hours away, we've had the odd tornado, but usually its spread out within a couple years...Couple days back there were 3 spotted surrounding our town, way i figure it, its gonna be a summer full of bad weather.

  • I don't think this will happen within the next week, but there's the potential every summer for twisters to strike Edmonton and many other parts of North America.

  • dude a tornado warning was issued today of as we are speaking for edmonton i am scared

  • is this really gonna happen to edmonton in 4 days or someten cuz i am gonna say this to my grandpa and grandma

Holy shit a Fucking Tornado is gunna hit edmonton!!!
