@calemhopkins Northern deer tend to have thicker hair and are best for tying, but you can tie fishable flies with deer from anywhere. It may not tie in as well and may not have perfect characteristics, but if it's free, it's worth trying out once you have the technique down. If you're just starting out, I would suggest getting some good hair from your fly shop so you have a point of comparison.
@FlyFishVideo I tried it and it worked and it was my first time trying it and i didnt think i could do it because ive only been tying for about a year and my flies sucked! but a got a new bobbin and it worked. the fly turned out great and i caught many bass on it so thank you for posting the vid it helped so much.
@dabubbleking sometimes it's becauae of the dyeing process, you can get a patch that's only good for small muddlers. or maybe you're too heavy handed experiment by pulling down till you cut it with your thread, then remember that tenson and back off a bit
can you use deer hair from missouri or is that not far enough north
