No German Pabst Von Ohaim made the first running turbine engine a year before Whittle. The Heinkel 178 flew before any other jet and the Heinkel 280 was the first Jet Fighter although it never entered series production. It also can claim the first operational use of an ejector seat.
The Me 262 was the first production Jet fighter and the Arada 234 was the first proper jet bomber.
The 262 was used and had many victories. Even the Me163 rocket plane had some mild success shooting down bombers.

The 262 could easily have wiped the skies of Europe clean of Allied war planes had it been fielded as what it was intended to be---the best fighter plane in the world.
I don't think it would have made any difference. The Schwalbe came too late in the war to make a huge impact. The Luftwaffe barely had the fuel to sustain its prop driven fighters. If Hitler decided 1942 shortly after its first flight, to launch production then maybe the war would have been different.
