  • You can always count on the devil or a politician... to be the devil or a politician...

    Awesome!

  • I love it. Finally someone says what I think about the foolishness of expecting politicians to save our country's soul

  • The Larry Norman similarities in this song are amazingly striking.

  • Wonder if hes been to all "56" states yet?

  • He didn't nkow about Ron Paul ??

  • @Araya2012 What does God have to do with Obama being a Marxist? Forget Republican/Democrat... be an American; those two political parties are synonymous with one another except in name, and neither of them truly represent anyone or thing other than their own interests. Marxist theory might sound good on paper, but it requires totalitarianism to run it which is contrary to its theory. Your reference to Russia and China makes my point.

  • Thanks Derek! Its hard to remember that we already have a king!

  • Love it

  • Friggin love this!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Obama is a communist! I guess that makes you one too if you love it, or just plain ignorant of the truth.

  • How is Obama a *savior* he's another George Bush supporter but worse.. Fuck Obama impeach him he is a FRAUD and is NOT an american people are gullible just like saying the tooth fairy is real lmfao

  • It's no surprise that you are dissatisfied with Obama considering your complete lack of knowledge regarding politics. It is not in power of the people to impeach Obama. Impeachment is a formal function of the House of Representatives under the constitution and can only happen in extreme circumstances. Two more points:

    1) Obama's political ideology is on the opposite end of the spectrum. There is no way he would ever have been a Bush supporter.

    2) Learn how to use punctuation.

  • @soyuzone

But he is continuing everything Bush and all the predecessors started

    (of the last 100 years)

Wars, Patriot Act, helping Wall Street buddies,Corporations,

ever increasing fascism The pilots change, not ever the flight plan.

Only God can free us at this point, if we repent and pray

  • Derek Webb is an apostate. There is no place for the acceptance of ANY unrepentant sin in our culture -- and there is no justification for his involvement in Sojourners who routinely endorses politicians hell bent on destroying unborn life.

  • Cool song.

  • They still left out RON PAUL! Closest thing we would have had to a savior on capitol hill. And still may be... AUDIT/END the federal reserve system !!!!!!!!!

  • clearly you completely missed the point of Derek's words.

  • @wolfhybred Ron Paul is worse then Obama...and Obama is the worst Pres. we have had : ) btw all those that are gana flame me....i dont care what you say....Sarah Palin for 2012

  • @Herfer Please educate yourself. What do you know about Palin or Paul? You are so lost.

  • @wolfhybred Im in the Consitution party and i have ALL The same views as Palin, Pro LIfe, Big Business and all sorts....Paul was nearly progressive.....ik ALOT of his stuff....i watched this WHOLE RACE closely.....voted for "Huck" in the primary cuz i wanted a TRUE Conservitive....im not gana "debate tell im blue in the face" : ) thats where I standed and Im glad you have a different opinion : ) thats America and I LOVE THIS GREAT NATION!

  • You are mistaken. Paul is a strict Constitutionalist. Palin is a neo conservative. The Constitution does not call for an interventionist foriegn policy and udeclared wars of aggression. Sarah is a warmonger and as many politicians and MSM she is either ingnorant of facts or a liar. Ahmadinejad never threatened to wipe Isreal of the map nor are the building a nuke. Look for facts not war propaganda. Learn what pogressive means and then tell me how that descibes Paul? Stop listening to Glenn Beck.

  • Stop listening to MSNBC bull and look at the facts Glenn Beck and Rush are more right then all the rest.......ill makes this simple for you....your a far left liberal....im a hard core conservative....I DONT CARE WHAT YOU SAY I WILL STILL THINK YOUR A WACKO!

  • LMAORIF ! You need to look up some definitions. You sound like a RINO. Probably don't know what that means either do ya? Keep the debate short and simply define the terms you use. I don't think you know what any of them mean politically speaking. To call Ron Paul a progressive is absurd. And I don't watch MSNBC or any other lame stream media. I used to watch GB before I figured out what a fraud he is. You are definately not a Constitutionalist. Stop yelling like a neo con and make some sense.

  • @wolfhybred Stand*

  • Stand* ? How can you be Pro Life and pro agressive war/occupation/empire building? I did more tha watch the race. I campaigned during the primaries, worked the polls, was a delegate and much more. Why didn't you vote for your parties candidate? Please answer my questions. I would really like to hear your answers. Then I will tell you who I voted for since Paul wasn't on the ballot in my state. Sara has nothing but sound bytes. Paul is the only that knows monetary policy and it's relation to fp

  • @Herfer Have you read the Constitution? Most of Sarah or Hucks views are constitutional. Do you understand how the wars we are in and the patriot act go against everything this country was based upon? Do you realize we are headed the way of the old Soviet Union? Tha we have 700 military bases in over 130 countries. 59% of our bdget is for this and growing and WE ARE BROKE? Have you really seen the reality of what we are doing over there? Don't dare talk to me about pro life. Our Gov. Shames me

  • "Debating online is like running in the Special Olympics, at the end of the day your still retared".....i would keep going if i thought you where worth the time....but your NOT GOING to change my mind and im not gana change your....thats that. I didnt vote in my party cuz i didnt agree with the guy they nominated....is that a problem? yes i hate the way the country is going debt way over our heads and a socialist regime in office.

  • @wolfhybred MMM i can feel the flamers already :). Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson...one of the two said this " every citizen should be ready for war, it was the way with the Greeks and the Romans and thats how it should be today" so im pretty sure the Fonding Fathers where cool with war that PROTECT THE FREAKIN' COUNTRY! duh!

  • HOLD ON - HOLD ON

Did I see what I thought I saw?????

did the maker of this video match the words of the song, to the words of Obama and McCain?!?!?!

    Thats amazing!!!!

I just so happened to stumble over Dereks latest cd and checked him out here and I love it....... Go Derek!

  • I was right! New cd is amazing, different, but very interesting songs. :) Anyone else pick it up yet?

  • One of the best albums ever!

  • Can't wait to go out and get stockholm syndrome. Can only imagine how awesome it will be :)

  • "stockholm syndrome" out on 9/1..this tuesday! can't wait--make sure to grab a copy and support derek!

  • derek, this is awesome...

  • I love this song and appreciate how you don't spare either side of the political circle

  • One more thing Abortion declined during Pres. Bush's terms.

In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed, down from 1.31 million abortions in 2000.

Be blessed anyway but I am floored that Chrsitians would endorse abortion for the sake of "UNWANTED PREGNANCIES"

    Psalm 139

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mothers womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

  • Abortion is not a federal government issue. Period. They run on it all the time. it is a farce people get over it. People wiil and always have done it. Should they do it afely or with a qualified physician? And should the government decide wether the ebryo is viable or the mothers life is at risk or the government? I desoide abortion but sometimes it is for the best for the unborn and the potential mother. It is a private awful decision to have to make. What gets me is all the christain warmonger

  • Brilliant! Love this.

  • Great song, Great video!!

i really liked it. if the song went for any longer the whole politician singing the words thing wouldve got annoying but it didnt so yeah!

  • Great song, dumb video.

  • This is one of my favorites by you Derek. By the way I saw you last October on your tour with Heath, Peacock, Groves, and McCracklin in Orange City, Iowa. It was wonderful. Are you planning on going on tour again soon? Be great if you could make it near Quincy IL.

  • I agree that we don't need to rely on the president like a savior for our needs in our personal situations (financially, temporally or spiritually) But I did pray for both candidates in actual fear for the winner, i new that whoever won would be the scapegoat for our economy, its gona get worse before it gets better, and in my prayer i began to realize that of the 2 Obama's heart's in the right place, He knows what he is up against and is willing to give it a shot, so I support our current prez

  • yea, me too, as a christian I appreciate how pro abortion he is! lol, that's sarcasm.

  • I'm just not the one to judge.

  • We could always make abortion illegal which in turn would NOT stop the random unwanted pregnancy or any scared lil girls not ready to be a mother, who unlike thier "partners" don't have the choice of just walking out of the relationship, who would either be forced into giving birth or take the risk (of her life) to have an illegal procedure without the healthy care of a physician, and instead of one innocent life we'd double the bloodshed to two,

  • You were wise to remove the comment you made to me. Most Christians will not agree that abortion is an acceptable "choice". God may be loving but he hates sin.

  • I'm new to you tube I was just in a; I wonder what this button does sorta mood. And I beleive that each situation calls for a SEPERATE consequence. If you think that every one who sins is not acceptable in Jesus eyes than I don't want to know ur Jesus, My Jesus loves the outcasted, and dined with sinners and told the adutlress "nor do I condemn you" doesn't the Bible tell us to mimick His character? which part of His character went out throwing stones at every sinner he felt was beneath Him?

  • than y is there so much sin going on in this world? if god is really so loving y do young kids die every day from hunger and deceases?

  • Because the human race does not help out enough, its not Gods fault.

  • God created the human to Gods own image right? he wanted humans to be as good as god right? if god knows everything, which people say he does, he must have known in advance things like these would happen right? I think he didnt do a good job than on creating the human race.

  • God created men in his image doesnt mean perfection but we have a right to choose, emotions, spirit being, etc.

God wants people to follow him based on choice. Its like you have Children knowing that they "will" do wrong things, would you want to make it that your children would be robots and just did what you said or they obeyed you out of love and loved you by choice? in this we are like God, we dont want people to be robots.

Humans are a great creation, all we have to do is turn to Jesus.

  • God and humans arent the same. God knows and can do everything, people say, but humans cant. So if we would take the children example, if a parent would know everything bad that would happen in advance, the kid doesnt have to become a robot to stay out of trouble. And Im not talking about obeying or not, I just think its kinda weird that our father, God, has the power to know things in advance but still horrible things are happening in this world.

  • MaartenSjef: God didn't make any mistakes in creating the human race. Free will is what gives us the right to do what we want with our world and the people in it. Free will isn't the problem, it's what we do with it. If we were all perfect there'd be no need for government. The point this video makes is that we can't put our hope in our leaders because they're only men, and men fail...constantly. We have to put our faith in God because he's the only one who can (a) save us, or (b) have mercy.

  • I kno that men fail constantly, I live in the same world u do. The only thing i just think is weird is that people claim God has powers to kno everything but doesnt do anything with it. I kno its men who make bad decisions, but if God has the powers people claim he has y wont he use them? It kinda looks like he is just sittin there seeing us fail while he can do something about it.

  • I really don't think this is just some sick experiment by God to just "see what will happen". I know that's not what you were implying, but a lot of people feel that way. The problems you're addressing can be answered with 2 words: free will. God gave it to us for good or bad. And unfortunately we use it for mostly bad. We have history to show us what happens when people exercise free will recklessly and we choose to ignore it.

  • I kno we can use it for good and bad. The point im tryin to make here is that God is all knowing and able to do anything, but doesnt use those abilities to prevent the bad things from happening.

  • I don't think you understand. What's the point in giving us "free will" if he's just going to come down and correct all our mistakes and be like, "Nope, can't use your FREE WILL for that."

  • Of course it is free will. U can do what u wanna do but im tryin to say that people claim God is all loving and all caring but i guess not if he lets people use their free will in an bad way. It still remains free will but if God is in control of everything he could at least try to stop people from doing bad things. If he is so loving and caring he would i hope (at least) try to stop little kids starve every day or let innocent people get murdered...

  • I've been reading your comments and they all pose great questions - You see, in my opinion, what we call free will is what actually broke our relationship with God. When God created this earth and the human race, he did so to have a direct relationship with us. It was by free will that we broke that relationship. We disobeyed the first commandment given to us and thereby told God we know best. My friend God isn't distant, He's right here with us, He always has been.

  • Let me be more specific - Let's take God out of the equation for now. So God doesn't exist - if so, do bad things still happen? Do children still die of hunger and disease? Does AIDS and cancer still kill thousands of people? I believe the answer to all of those questions is yes. This is the direct effect of our brokenness. We took something so rare and beautiful and traded it for a moment of self serving pleasure (what I'm referring to is the story of Adam and Eve which is in Genesis chpt. 3)

  • I agree wit that bad things are happening in this world. There is no way around that. But the point Im trying to make is that if there is an all-knowing and all-powerful being, he at least has the powers to do something about it. I dont think u can call that being very loving or caring if he allows these things to happen. If he is not capable of doing something about it, i would be fine wit that.

  • So if God interjected at every moment bad were to happen, what would be left? Only good correct? So if you agree we have free will but bad never happens, what happens to free will? This is where faith comes in: if I didn't get my heart broken time and again, I would never have married my wife whom I love more than life itself. You look at love like you are looking at a painting from 2 inches away. You look at pain as if it has nothing to do with love. God isn't a lucky charm.

  • your way of thinking is only humainsm at best. unless you have surrendered all you are to Christ and have been reconnected with a God who lives outside of our finite lives in eternity and who longs for all to know Him intimately you will always keep things in your human perspective. You are already barking up the wrong tree when you say "if God is all powerful," or if there's such a loving God" You need to find the tree of life where His love and plan for us will then make sense.

  • MaartenSjef, God is a Spiritual being, God does not have a physical body like man; nor does God have gender, God is just God. You are trying to place God into man's realm... it just can't happen. Also, God never intended for man to be as good as God. Man was to be a servant and caretaker of the earth. God did exactly what God intended in creating the human race; God gave us a free will, that equals having a choice. The failure belongs to man and man alone as man chose to disobey.

  • @wmalicoat Wat do u kno about Gods intentions? I dont kno the Bible very well, if we can take that as the base of our understandin about God, but i do kno that there r so many different interpetations out there its hard to say wat He really meant. God did wat God intended... Well thats easy to say. Y is God so mystical?

  • @MaartenSjef Because he's God

  • @bctdrc73 So?

  • Sorry, wdufkin, You are completely and totally wrong. There are many diverse reasons for abortion, and none of them, unless you are the woman making the choice, are any of your business. And yes, I've been a believer since I was a small child, although I'm sure that fact will be something that your very small mind simply can't handle.

  • What are you saying? we are talking about Murder here. There is no difference between murder in the womb or outside of it. What madness is this, we should be praying and hoping for the unborn. If a pregnant woman is murdered while pregnant and teh baby dies, that individual will be charged with double murder. I dont condemn anyone for having an abortion and i have witnessed the pain of it from from people close to me. Most abortions are done selfishly and no one ever talks about the scars.

  • I am with you on this and I think you have a big heart and a great mind to say what you have said. We dont condemn at all but speaking truth is not condemning.

  • Thats a cop out! if we are not ready for children we are not ready for sex. The unborn child has nothing to do with our reckless behavior which is the reason for most unwanted pregnancies.

  • Deciding not to judge another for their sins is not a cop out. You can make your own measures of progress by initiating some sort of attempt at preventing unwanted pregnancies and unborn deaths (Which is Obamas goal) by actually doing something about it! If your actions consist of nothing but pointing fingers and shaming those who you disagree then you are not expressing the character of Christ. If you really want progress for it then you would do something other than sit and blame.

  • Hold up! firstly I am not judging anyone, if you involve in sex that causes you to get pregnant you have to take responsibilty and the unborn child is not a "punishment" but a gift from God if you know your bible. "UNWANTED PREGNANCIES" are you serious!? How can you as a Christian endorse the killing of the innocent. Show me a scripture that defends this in any way, please. You dont know what I do but that is not for me to say. You are the one making judgment actually.

  • The only Pres. Obama has done thus far as far as abortion is make it more easier. Please dont talk about heath issues as far as abortions because between incest, rape and health it only makes up aprox 6% of all abortions. Life is more important than incovenience. "Shaming people" my comment was in response too your cop out, I condemn no one. "sit there and blame" who is responsible when they get pregnant. Love and compassion is not void of truth and responsibilty. A child is not a punishment!

  • as a Christian I don't appreciate your closemindedness that makes so many bulk at the thought of a caring loving "Accepting" savior...

  • love it! it's not about politics, it's about Jesus being the only One who can save us. amen brother.

  • Derek Webb supported Ron Paul. :)

  • Clever! Nice video

  • Wow. I'm getting a lot of flack from my comments. I actually am a Christian (and because MackLeeGreen is so concerned, I voted for McCain).

Why is it that because we're Christian we can't critique stuff that we don't agree with if it has a Christian label? I say it's a Kid Rock rip-off and, while the heart of the message is totally true, it goes a little overboard.

  • speechless. i dont even know what to say. thank you?

  • If you want somebody good for president, vote for America's Indepedent, vote for Alan Keyes!

  • Derek Webb for president.

  • Derek Webb for president! Amen, TruthBringer!

  • What if the judgment fits?

  • Obviously you don't know who Derek Webb is. You'd rather assume you know him cause he is "Christian". Were not all the same. Peace.

  • whats that suppose to mean?

  • He even-handedly pokes fun at both McCain and Obama and yet it's judgmental. Hmmmm, let me guess, you wouldn't have had a problem with it if he didn't dare to poke fun at the almighty Obama.

  • Judgmental?

All he's saying is that there will never be anyone in office that will solve all your problems. A little research into history declares this as truth.

    Judgmental indeed....

  • cute

  • I like this video a lot. Thank you, Derek Webb, for your prophetic voice. Thank you also to the reviewer who pasted up the lyrics; some of them have been escaping me until now. AND, I must agree with the reviewer who recommends "Jesus for President" by Shane Claiborne--it's a highly recommended book for all Americans who claim Jesus' name!

  • I am wicked impressed that somebody spent the time and effort to paste together all those clips of Obama and McCain to match Webb's words.

  • Wow! When I first watched this I didn't even realise that their mouths were moving (sorta) in sync with the lyrics. Cool!

  • Clever.

  • right, of course you wouldn't put your christianity on hold if you worked in the government, but that's where we disagree...i don't think christians should be working for the government because i don't believe politics change culture - it's the other way around. but hey, that's just my opinion. :) i am curious though, what teachings of Jesus do you see as advocating working in government? i'm not saying you're wrong, just wanna know.

  • ok so 1. webb is really funny and intelligent; 2. "ultimately our problems are not going to be solved with the right man in the white house" -- this is we've been trying to tell what campaigns deem the "evangelical vote" all along. bush/Reagan or having a "holy" (notice quotes) person in the white house is not going to protect us/save us. and 3. i think the lyrics kind of are a disservice to politicians who really do work for the least of these -- like barack for example!

  • maybe barack does work for the least of these as you say, but the lyrics are still true, even for him. his policies don't make him any less of a politician or any more of a christian. most of this countries presidents have claimed to be Christ-followers, but so far none of them have lived out the teachings of Christ...

  • even obama. when he was on letterman he said that "this country is still the last best hope on earth." to me, that says that while the actions he wants to take are different, his fundamental policy is the same as bush's: to use the united states as a savior to the world. which is exactly what this song is saying is impossible. so i like your first two points, but your third doesn't make sense to me.

  • fair enough -- i didn't see him on letterman. but with that statement, i don't think Obama is trying to court evangelicals or that he claims that the US is the vessel through which all great things will come about. but i do think he sees how being fair and trying to carry out justice and mercy can help god's kingdom come about... i mean on the individual level. {insert st. augustine's philosophy}

  • anyway, i just meant that there are lots of politicians out there that go into the field of work to help people... like Paul Simon, Durbin, Paul Wellstone etc etc. I think there's this political theory that says politicians really have little in it for themselves (as far as wages/hour) and that's what should keep democracy running. people usually make politics a vocation to keep things fair and balanced etc etc... not for power and wealth.

  • however, webb is right when he says that power is corrupting. anyway, the song has a great tune but the words cut too deep for someone who works on capitol hill =)

  • hmm okay. perhaps. i just don't think that the job of furthering God's kingdom should fall into politicians hands at all. politics and Christianity just don't mix. agree to disagree? haha. actually, i'm reading this book that i really recommend called Jesus for president. check it out, even though i don't agree with all of it it's extremely interesting.

  • lol think of it this way... like im a christian and i want to work in government. i can't just push my Christianity to the curb when im sitting down working on legislation. in fact, it's the stuff that christ taught me that makes me want to work in government in the first place. at the same time i'm not advocating only for christians nor can i discriminating against non-christians. i think christ teaches tolerance and calls people in his time. i've heard of the book...i'll check it out =)

  • may i also add working on the hill is very humbling... seeing our failures and god's great grace =)

  • haha, but you're right about the humbling thing. can't imagine where this country would be without God's grace...

  • I'm so tired of these mortal men

with their hands on their wallets and their hearts full of sin

scared of their enemies, scared of their friends

    and always running for re-election

so come to DC if it be thy will

because we've never had a savior on Capitol Hill

  • you can always trust the devil or a politician

to be the devil or a politician

but beyond that friends you'd best beware

'cause at the Pentagon bar they're an inseparable pair

and as long as the lobbyists are paying their bills

we'll never have a savior on Capitol Hill

  • [Bridge] all of our problems gonna disappear when we can whisper right in that President's ear he could walk right across the reflection pool in his combat boots and ten thousand dollar suit you can render unto Caesar everything that's his you can trust in his power to come to your defense it's the way of the world, the way of the gun it's the trading of an evil for a lesser one so don't hold your breath or your vote until you think you've finally found a savior up on Capitol Hill
  • Thank you, Derek! That spoof was probably the best way to treat the bitterness and irony of those lyrics.

  • awesome. One of my favorite songs on the album.

  • This probably made my entire month...or year. Thank you, Derek!

  • Great video Derek! I am very political and use politics as my springboard to introduce the only hope we have is the King and the Kingdom not the D's or the R's.

  • Derek, that was great. :) Funny stuff.
