    unknown hostname may be your nameserve isn't set up correctly?

  • @pitocors That's a question for the hamachi forums or something. Not me. By all means, the game should run fine over netplay, every game should.

    If you want to see luigi as the second player, check out the video in the description. The video is called OUTDATED 2-player co-op in Super Mario World for a reason.

  • Definitely. I've been working on this on and off for the past six months, and I intend to finish it. Expect another big update at the next SMWC C3.

  • Netplay is a product of the emulator, and so technically, netplay is already implemented.

    Also, yes, it uses port 2. If you don't know what those controllers are on an emulator, you can set your own in the emulator settings.

  • When you say you ordered it online, do you mean you ordered a cartridge for the SNES?

    If so, then there's no easy way to do it without spending more money and getting way in deep with Mario hacking in general.

    Also, I doubt your kids would want this; it's filled with bugs galore and crashes the game often.

    Also, yes, SMW had a 2-player function, but it didn't allow players to play simultaneously. It only had them playing the levels by themselves.

  • If you have problems with making an overworld, you probably shouldnt try this.

  • Forgot to say... did you try using the dynamic sprite tiles for Mario that you can see in Roy's picture? It's an easy way to make a sprite that looks like Mario. Then you could give it a different palette to make it seem like an entirely different person.

  • Can you PLEASE READ ALL OF THE COMMENTS? I can't use Luigi for various reasons, and if rex dies, mario looses a life and keeps on playing. If Mario dies, rex dies but mario doesn't loose an extra life.

    I eventually plan on turning this in to a NSMBWii-esque thing.

    he can attack but he cant shot shells and he cant take coins or destroy blocks and the game crashes if he rides on yoshi :)

  • Why not Luigi? He was already in the game with all of the same moves and everything.

  • Well i'm not 100% sure but I think Luigi IS mario in this game just a recolored version so im not sure if he could get it to work like that.

  • @Noobish1Noobsicle although there is a patch on SMWCentral that make Luigi have his own graphics and such. I'm not sure if that would work ether (although id think it should...)

  • The problem is that standard sprites like rex have access to the SP1, SP2, SP3, and SP4 graphics slots. Mario, as a matter of fact, is a sprite that uses these standard graphics, but does something remarkable with them. Each frame is calculated, and then DMA'd from Mario's separate, unacssable graphics file to a special location in SP1, where that is the frame that is used.

    I can't do this because, frankly, I don't know how. Plus, it would take lots of work to calculate every frame every frame.

  • @Ziiiv Rex can't go off the screen. Like Mario, if Rex tries to go offscreen, then he gets stopped at the edge.

    @TheVampireEd You obviously don't know ANYTHING about the way SMW works. In SMW, Luigi was just Mario w/ a palette swap. I couldn't do that. Just FYI, I do eventually plan to add Luigi graphics, but it was just too complex for this release.

    @Wulvaine I get to manually code interaction in every single sprite in the game. That's on the to-do list.

  • if possible, will you have Rex act exactly (or almost identically) to mario in the future (IE, when he gets hit in the face by a bonzai bill, he'll turn small)?

  • Noobish1Noobsicle... I think you have just perfected Girlfriend Mode in Super Mario World.

    I can't wait to see this used in some hacks. Do you have any further advancements planned? I'm not even sure what's actually engine-possible with extensive ASM, but if you could somehow make Mario treat Rex as a platform, I can imagine some very interesting level designs being teamwork-based. I expect that sort of interaction would be complicated to implement though.

  • So what happens if the Rex or another player dies? Will it just wipe the player off the screen and allow the other player to continue? Or when you die you use a life but enter the level again with 1 life gone?

  • @Zone355 If Rex dies, then the game continues. If Mario dies, Rex dies with him.
