I took my X out for the first time yesterday... It's completely stock. Lol when we hit the trail my X was one of the few that never gave me any trouble! Not once! All these lifted rigs with air lockers and self levelling suspension... Psht... Don't waste your money, a stock xterra will do it all and do it better! Mods to come though!
wow!!!i have an X ofmy own n want to do stuff like this...the thing is i stay in the middle east..n want to know what suspension is best for the car..i also plan on lifting it up...so m open for any suggestions...its a 2010 model....i wanna pimp it up for better performance....which tires to use..n i wanna put a bar in front for the lights as well...i wanna know if thats available online...n btw theres nothing like the X....love it..n keep it up!!!
I honestly have to say the xterra is a very good car. I loved my dads so much but some guy did a hit and run on my brother on the carpool lane and the xterra flipped and rolled over all the way to the dirt lane on the freeway (405s). The xterra could take a beating . It pretty much saved my brothers life.
X-Terra not a good off-roader? I beg to differ. Having done Moab's popular lions back with a first generation X, and then 8 years after with a 2nd generation x, I'd say the X handles superbly. By the way, with a "FJ recovery vehicle" in the rear, I'd say I've also become the FJ's AAA road side assistance..
I've owned Jeeps before, and due to it's reliability "issues", I then turned to the X. Since then, I haven't looked back.
@JohnnyBoyCali: I also have 2 '06 Xterras and only one had the fuel sending issues and Nissan will replace it free of charge while the recall is active. So you need to get it to them ASAP.
As for the other issues, I don't have them myself and neither do any of my friends that have '05-'08 Xterra's but it would be good to check into those and maybe try a different Nissan dealer...
Nice vid. Some serious challenges here. I'll have to time a trip to see my daughter in VA Beach to go w/ ya all on a club trip some day. Please keep me posted at roybeth@gmail.com (I'm retired so can travel ad lib).
Neat video. Mine does x-lent off road; better in Moab than a Rubicon that was following me (I have only a 2" lift, full skids, front/rear receivers for my winch; no locker. 185's). I traded my 2008 jk w/ rear locker for the X which I then lifted the 2". Honest, my x does better and tons moer power!
Still by FAR, one of the BEST Xterra Videos on all of youtube. I have contributed to over 25 + views and still watch this video when im feeling down. Thanks for putting this all together. Adam Xterra 08 OR (stick) with 2.5 in calmini lift and 33s
im a jeep guy. but my mom owns an X. and its great to see all the different rigs that are out there having a good time. cause thats what its all about!
nice rigs but sorry those snorkels look pretty goofy, why didnt the manufacturer just make them reach up to the roofline instead of making them stop halfway?...looks like they can get snagged on a branch and snap off
Just my personal opinion, but I think Xterras are the last of real off road capable SUV's, I mean sure the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is cool, but WTF? The FJ Cruiser, I'm pretty sure that's all looks, along with the old H2's and H3's. At least new vehicles from the factory anyhow.
@camaro480@camaro480@camaro480@camaro480 lol you are a complete idiot... first off the SRT8 is the one jeep made strictly for on road purposes. The other Grand Cherokees are very offroad capable (I would know, I own an 09 GC). The FJ Cruiser is definitely not all looks, but you are right about hummers. You also left out some important SUV's like the 4runner and the WRANGLER. Next time, get it straight before you comment
@dhs012 I never said the GC SRT8 is for off road use. I know people that own GC and Wrangler's and they seem to lack in reliability. The newer Jeeps might be better built compared to the older models; I also think it depends on how you treat them. Lastly that was my personal opinion.
@corvetteboy10 Thats just it.....you drive a car. You wouldnt understand. I could never drive a car. Have you ever taken a car to drive down miles of beach coastline? It wouldnt work for me. Have you ever driven a car across a pond? Have you ever climbed a 43* incline? You would get stuck in a pisspuddle on your concrete driveway. Not my style.
lol, I never saw this version. This was such a good trip. I love the mud pouring from andrew's X, then not to mention, the gratuitious mudgirl shot at the end.
the video is sick. im working on making my 09 xterra a beast. quick question. it sounds like the song is by system of the down, whats the name of the song.
i have one too an 02 with 97,002 and the miles aint shit for a nissan i love the xterra but one thing they waste so much gas its not funny but i love it . i havent seen a toyota tacoma do something likethe xterra they cant compite well write back people
i want a nissan but i cant choose between a frontier or xterra. also which generation would be better to get i like the current generation b/c of the new engine and locking rear diff, but ive heard horror stories weak axles and diffs. the reliability of the previous generation seems to be better then the current generation. which is better offroad?? and one last question where is this at?? i go to JMU in harrisonburg and was wondering if there are any good trails close by???
I have been wondering, i noticed that a few of the rigs in this video have cables going from the rack down to the front bumper, what is the purpose of that? Is it to clear branches or what?
clears out branches and even prevents heavy branches or brush from "slapping" your windshield when you are in thick forest. i heard it can break your windshield if its hard enough.
i have a 2001 Xterra completely stock. i love the way it rides on the road as well as off road. i out crawled a 2005 tacoma and a 1989 landcruiser. fun times.
i love my 08 xterra. im looking to get some sweet front ends from shrockworksdotcom and get some skid plates so i can play rough without hurtin my baby. lol.

My dad bought a 2001 Nissan Xterra (manual). For just 7 years of service is a bad SUV. The starting engine and the alternator keeps breaking very often; the interior plastic parts are always getting loose and also if you go to a Nissan dealer it's hard to find parts for an Xterra. The chasis was designed for the old 90's Frontier (a small pick-up truck) not for a SUV, so if you are a passenger you will hurt your back in a while.
Care to explain what you mean by implying that the Xterra's do not perform well off road? According to Motor Trend, the Xterra performed better than a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, '08 FJ Cruiser, and '08 Hummer H3 in their "SUV Torture Test" and was also named 4x4 of the year a few years ago by Peterson's 4wheel & Off Road. Educate yourself a little bit before you go around saying things that are not true. Stick to web wheeling.
@OkState01 Dude, I'm sorry, but offroad, in stock form a 2008 XTerra vs. a 2008 Wrangler Rubicon, the Rubicon wins handsdown. Don't get me wrong, the XTerra is a great truck and very stable off road, and I totally support them, but you can't compare both trucks in stock form. Don't believe everything you read from Motor Trend.
@OkState01 i found the video for that.....they TOOK OFF POINTS FOR OFFROAD TIRES. they added to the test--> pavement capabilities.....NOBODY CARES ABOUT THAT in an offroad contest. I would trust my jeep rubicon in a real offroad contest versus ANY other offroad vehicle. LanguidRover, Fake Jeep (FJ), mommy wagon (xterra), or the Chevy Colorado (aka Hummer 3). Motor Trend is a joke and needs to stick with critiquing Honda Accords and Lambos.
@OkState01 I have an 06 xterra and they suck. The fuel sending unit went out after only about 40k miles and nissan wouldnt replace it. In addition the ABS system makes these horrible snapping and craking sounds which Nissan said was normal. Get used to replacing the power window motors, they're cheap and wear out fast. I've had other problems but dont feel like rambling. Nissan quality has gone way down the drain.
@JohnnyBoyCali Maybe it's back up: My 'o8 w/ 80k and a fair amount of serious off-road (including 2 "difficults" in Moab and 200 miles of horrible teeth jarring roads in Death Vallye has given me NO mechanical problems or hardware problems. Also have been towing a 4K lb travel trailer hundreds of miles. Love engine and tranny!
@JohnnyBoyCali I also have 2 '06 Xterras and only one had the fuel sending issues and Nissan will replace it free of charge while the recall is active. So you need to get it to them ASAP.
As for the other issues, I don't have them myself and neither do any of my friends that have '05-'08 Xterra's but it would be good to check into those and maybe try a different Nissan dealer...
@OkState01 The reason it won was because i had "No fat no thrills" not because it performed better. plus it had off road type tires compared to the fjs road tires! I not saying its bad off road, cause its not, but the other are just as capable off road (maybe not the H3 though!) Happy wheelin.
"Tubnmike" your obviously an idiot, the xterra also beat the h3, fj cruiser, and grand cherokee, in car & driver as well. Care to tell me why the xterra won? Oh wait maybe because it beat every competitor at every angle.
Is that Anthony in the Black X? I know he is from NY but it looks quite similar. I would like to meet all of you at EXCX some day, and for those who think X's are momma's cars, you just don't know and that's all there is to it.
i would really like information about this club im trying to make my xterra look like the black x with the spare tire mounted on the back...thanks for any help!!!!
I have an xterra, a corvette, and super bike...does that make me cool mr. lumpy? or would it make me more cool that i couldnt afford anything but a piece of shit land rover? Damn you are awesome!
LOL! Do you wear a mullet too? Wonder why they never ran the Camel Trophy with Nissans...? Go watch the 1987 Camel Trophy and get back to me. Or watch the 2000 Malaysian Rain Forest Challenge.
Steveio, why do you say the 2nd gen Xterra isn't a real Xterra? I drive an '05 and it has plenty of heart. Survived a $10,000 lightning strike and plenty of off-roading adventures. If they aren't "real" Xterras, why would you call them Xterra 2.0, or Xterra anything? In all actuality, they are Xterra 2.0. And, you can add a B/L along with an S/L to get more lift.
I just bought a 2003 Xterra for my wife...However after seeing this it makes me think that it deserves better than a trip to Wal-mart and soccer once a wek!!!!
let me help you understand....its fun to offroad, they look cool (in my opinion and many many others) there fun to drive, there fun, there a alot of fun to drive, and they are fun
its stil driveable up to a certain amount? how much do you plan on lifting. All the difference is, that the truck is sitting on a higher center of gravity. so flipping the truck on turns will become easier. so all you have to do is slow down when you drive
Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking on lifting it only a little, aroung 4 inches, so after what you said I don`t think it is going to give me too much trouble. I have already asked for the kit. Only a couple of days and maybe soon I`ll see you mudding.
well depends.... in an xterra, like these you can only add a suspension lift up to 3 inches unless you have over a grand to throw a solid axel swap into your ride then the skys the limit
Get a Jeep and get rid of your worthless IFS.... any rig can go through water... it ruins everything... if you wanna impress us, lets see snow and rocks...
I guess the faulty head design and all of the water pump problems as well as the wonderful manifold failures over the years are a reason to get a (ch)eep. Sorry dude(?) I went for an X!
What year and style was it.. and were the tires stock or were they offroading tires?

Steveio, why do you say the 2nd gen Xterra isn't a real Xterra? I drive an '05 and it has plenty of heart. Survived a $10,000 lightning strike and plenty of off-roading adventures. If they aren't "real" Xterras, why would you call them Xterra 2.0, or Xterra anything? In all actuality, they are Xterra 2.0. And, you can add a B/L along with an S/L to get more lift.

the 05 and up Xterras arent real xterras, they bare the badge but not the heart. we should just call them Xterra version2.0!

Nice vid, but after all this hi-lifting are they still drivable on-road? I ask this because I am also thinking to do it. Thanks in advance.
patrol1553 4 years ago
its stil driveable up to a certain amount? how much do you plan on lifting. All the difference is, that the truck is sitting on a higher center of gravity. so flipping the truck on turns will become easier. so all you have to do is slow down when you drive
webfur 4 years ago
Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking on lifting it only a little, aroung 4 inches, so after what you said I don`t think it is going to give me too much trouble. I have already asked for the kit. Only a couple of days and maybe soon I`ll see you mudding.
patrol1553 4 years ago
well depends.... in an xterra, like these you can only add a suspension lift up to 3 inches unless you have over a grand to throw a solid axel swap into your ride then the skys the limit
steveio644 4 years ago
I just put a five inch suspension lift in mine and I kept the ifs.

I guess the faulty head design and all of the water pump problems as well as the wonderful manifold failures over the years are a reason to get a (ch)eep. Sorry dude(?) I went for an X!
