A modern mustang can not compete. Off the line, the mustang would win, but even a four cylinder lotus would catch and beat the mustang. i have seen it over and over, the heavy mustang can boast horsepower, but that is not the whole picture. Even a new 5.0mustang can't match the top speed of a 20 year old 4 cylinder lotus. look at "lotus fast and furious" on youtube
@jeepmanification A modern mustang can will and has beaten a modern lotus. The new boss 302 leguna seca beats the lotus evora s around leguna seca and in a strait line. The new stock 5.0 mustang can beat the old lotus esprit.
good filming but u can completely tell that the cars are only following eachother at cruising speeds of around 35-40mph... if its gonna be a battle then u gotta speed things up, swing some tale ends out, throw some dust, and make sure who evers watching can hear the motors be put to the limit even if ur using a soundboard (thats a big part of a car chase in the hollywood... the sound of the car... just look at movies like bullit, gone in 60 seconds old and new, vanishing point, etc etc...)
the lotus on "lotus fast and furious" is a four cyl., but has a stock chargecooler and stock turbo and is very lightweight

With old horse and cart suspension (leaf spring), on the Mustang, the Esprit built with superior handling will definately out perform
