I always smile when I read "poco a poco cre---(two or three bars of massive chords and lightning strokes)-- scen --(other three or four bars of musical craze) --- do" through pages,
Not to mention the "sempre ben legato" as a consant reminder. Reger is Reger, so terribly serious that nowadays his scores look (but don't sound) somehow peculiar.
Maxnificent performance by Jos van der Kooij! Wonderful organ in great acoustics.
Thank you, bartje, for posting this fine performance AND for showing the score.
(I have not seen it in decades.) Emphasize the grace notes. Otherwise they are not heard by the audience. We hear the notes because we know they are there.
Someone should transcribe this for orchestra. Even the amazing Passacaglia and fugue in Cminor by Bach is 11 times stronger when removed from the mud of the organ. But Bach's and Reger's pieces are still good on organ anyway!
The Toccata was great. Someone had to wake me when the Fugue was finished though.
No wonder people don't go to organ recitals anymore.

Too fast? hah! Have you ever heard the George Markey recording of this work?
What's so wrong with a little fire in a Toccata? Too slow for my taste

It sounded like he was completely deaf when he made the vivacissimo part.
