(continued from previous comment) Christ died for us in spite of our wickedness because of his mercy. All we need to do is put our trust in him, and he will "forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9) not because of what we've done but because of what Christ has done.
In John chapter one, in reference to Jesus, John the baptist says "It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." (John 1:27 NASB) and Jesus said "I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John..." (Luke 7:28 NASB)
How is it that John the baptist was not worthy to untie Jesus' sandles and yet the Son of God died for us because of some worth that we have? The answer is that we are not "worth dying for" as this song says. Christ died
One day, I was sitting infront og my mirror saying to myself: How could anyone every love me? I will never be beautiful... inside or outside. Then as I started crying.... thinking, God, how could you ever love me? This song came on the radio. The first time I have EVER heard it. And I just broke down in tears. Knowing that God was listening.. God does care. He thinks I'm beautiful... not just outside or not just inside, BUT BOTH! He died for me... and he loves me!
Still while we were sinners blinded to our own lusts and desires. Yes we are wretched children. We all deserve hell. But because of Jesus we are safe. But we are flesh so we sin. This song again just tells us its ok. Grace covers us til we reach full sanctification when.our King returns for His Bride. Much.love and I understand how you came to your conclusion on.the lyrical content in this song. Hope I helped God Bless
@trudeauian my friend this song is simply a that. It's this artists depictiom of the struggle a lot of Christians have today. This world tells.us we arent anything. Some believe that lie. The world tells us Jesus would never die for us cause we are too wretched. This song reminds us no matter what through Christ we are beautiful. And its because to God we were worth Jesus dying for. So yeah The Word tells us we were made below God but above angels. Safe to say we are wretched but God loved us
This song has the complete wrong focus and misguides people from the truth. I am wretched and that is what I am of myself. I am in need of Christ, without I am dead in sin. Christ with his atonement on the Cross, has taken my old self and crucified him (Galatians 2:20). I am now seated in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:4-6). This song makes us sound righteous and we need a pat on the shoulder from God. The truth is so much powerful and wonderful.
wow this is so powerful this song touched me my father is 72 yrs old has had has had surgery after surgery suffering from 15 yrs of Parkinson and doesn't have a lot of time he is in the final stages of this of course god knows that several surgery's we almost lost him I keep praying everyday and I dont think god is hearing my prayers he is suffering so much not able to speak well and I need a miracle healing for my mom and dad .. thanks for posting this on this site god bless please pray
I love the song, the is wrighter, and the mellody, but Jesus came to Die for us because we were HOPELESSLY lost.....not because we were worth it....but I still think it can be a VERY encourging song.....God Does love you and he does have a plan...a perfect one!!
I think this song is about God's love. We all have struggles and sins against God, but He sees the beauty in all of his creations, even the ones that don't listen and follow his word. It is about his continuous love for us, and we have the choice to be worth dying for. No matter what our sins or how many times we fall out of communion with God He loves us. It is our part to strive to be more than flesh and bone.
This is a song that touched me. All my life I have heard that I am not worth it and I am a nothing just because I am different. I alway felt why would God waste His time and energy dying for me a nobody. This song reminds me that I am worth something to God and while I do not deserve His love He gives it freely to everyone to give them hope. He want to give hope to everyone. This is a great song!!!!
@whiplaasch3654 how do you apply Ephesians 2: 8-9 to this song? It simply cannot be done. See the cross was not about my worth. It was about Christ's worth. It was about him loving the unlovable, Dying for the worthless, and offering forgiveness to the imperfect. I don't want a view of grace that says he saw me as worthy. I know what I was. He was making a good investment here. He was redeem the fallen. Grace- God giving man what he doesn't deserve. Mercy- God not giving man what he deserves.
@whiplaasch3654 don't interpret for the writer. You don't know where he is coming from. You assumption in defending him doesn't help the lack of biblical backing. And don't take things out of context to give your point scriptural validity.
@whiplaasch3654 the song doesn't seem targeted to christians. It seems targeted to the lost. So now the questio lies is man fully depraved? As for your Genesis 1:27 view its hard to apply pre-fall descriptions to post-fall man. I know that I am a joint heir with Christ. I understand that salvation has nothing, and I mean nothing to do with me. This song shows God as a means and not the end. It tries to humanize God. It makes His love like ours and not Godly love.
@SalvageHill I dont think this song is saying we should think we are worth it but rather that God knows we are worth it. Why else would he send his son to die for us? Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the Gift of God is eternal life through Chirst our Lord." So, I think he is saying God gave us the gift, because in His eyes (through Jesus' death and reserectiun) we are perfect.
Romans 3: "21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
@SalvageHill o and im not sure where He calls us beautiful but,He does say Genesis 1:27 "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." He created us in his image....doesnt that say something?
@SalvageHill I don't think the song is saying we should think we're worth it because we aren't. but that God knew we were worth it. why else would he willingly watch HIs son die for us? Roman 6:23 "the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life" we all sin so we deserve death however, God loves us (John 3:16 "For God so loved the world he gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.") and that is all that should matter.
@SalvageHill .......Genesis 1:27 (GOD is perfect...GOD is love...Love is Beautiful = GOD is Beautiful; He created man in His own image...) .......Ecclesiastes 3:11) He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what GOD has done from beginning to end.
@SalvageHill- The Book, Chapter & verse where it says they call us beautiful is Song of Solomon 1:15-16 says "How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes are doves.
How handsome you are, my beloved! Oh, how charming! And our bed is verdant.
The song offers the most oximoronic thought I have ever seen displayed in english. "You're worth it. You can't earn it." That doesn't even philosophically make sense much less theologically. It implies that you don't have to earn it because you deserve it. What we deserve is Hell. Oh...but grace. Grace that says you're free because of Christ not your worth but what he has done. That's worth singing about.
Well the problem with that attitude is that you can't find it in scripture. You can find quite the opposite. I am not worthy of his death. I am grateful for it but never worthy. The primary prupose of Christ coming wasn't our redemption. It was to glorify the father. Redemption was a biproduct of His obedience to the father. Redemption reconciles us to God. The song doesn't glorify God. It offers a world that feels entitled a false entitlement. Romans 3:10 there is none righteous no not one.
@SalvageHill: I think it was the writer's intention for this song to encourage those who are hurting, battling the struggles of life and the feeling of hopelessness and worthlessness. This song brings a powerful message that we are all precious in God's eyes. Regardless of what we think of ourselves and what others think of us. In His eyes, "we are worth dying for." As souls are saved thru this song, He is honored!
I am absolutely astounded by the ignorance of "christians". Why are they singing about our worth? Why are they not exalting God in this song? I was not worth killing mug less dying for. His grace is the offer of redemption to an unworthy soul. If you don't study the bible you won't smell the stingy of humanism here.
@SalvageHill i am astounded that u havent relized that god calls us beautiful. we are his bride! he has set us free, we are worthy but ONLY because of jesus. he sent jesus to die to save us, so we could come to him:)
Man, We are all battling through hard situations right now... A lot of us are hurt and the pain? Hurts to talk about so we keep it in...hidden. Some of us feel like you're nothing. How can God love
someone like me? Listen, my friend... YOU are worth dying for. And someone already did! Jesus!!! :)
Such a great song. This really makes me think twice if I have been doing the right thing.
