I just froze bananas overnight and blended them in a mini food processor..a bit of work but SO worth it. The end result was fabulous, served with vegan chocolate chip cookies! :DD
@annsaysno the amount of sugar in a banana does not change while it ripes, the calories is exactly the same. air cannot inject sugar into the banana. as bananas ripen, the complex carbohydrates in the banana breaks down into simple ones, and thus your taste buds get a bigger kick.
The comment that schools should use this is a PERFECT statement! Think how healthy the kids would be if they ate banana ice cream for breakfast, that was just a banana or combination of RAW fruits. Thank you!
Here is what I came up with ~ You have to have some Coconut Cream (comes in Boxes here in the Bronx which is a borough where Latinos live) & has no Sugar added.
So Frozen Coconut Cream + Frozen Ripe Bananas like this & if you do not possess a Champion Juicer NO SWEAT use a $40 Food Processor (with Large blades, not the same thing as a Blender) ~
If I don't have that juicer machine, what can I use to make the ice cream that "soft serve" consistency? Maybe put it in a blender and pulse it a few times? Or let it sit out for a couple minutes and use a potato masher? I don't know.. I hope I don't sound stupid lol. Just trying to think of alternatives instead of going out and buying a juicer.
Blender would work if you add a bit of almond milk but it might be more of a shake consistency. Food copper/processor would be better i think to get it to a soft serve....
I'd love to enjoy raw ice cream but I'm skeptical to whether or not frozen foods really qualify as raw. I thought that if food is heated and ends up being dead, wouldn't freezing food kill vital nutrients as well? Someone plz help me out on the science of that. Thanks for any responses.
Human sperm is frozen and it still makes a human being. I would say frozen fruit still holds its nutrients. Cooking something destroys it because heat is known to break things down, whereas cooling or freezing something preserves it in its natural state.
nope. Heat kills things where as cold will preserve or even restore in some cases. like with skin ceansing for example, hot water removes the natural oils from our skin where as cold water closes our pores. SO, nope cold doesnt damage it, ofcourse overtime the food will get dated and older but freezing slowls down the process for sure. i'm eating raw and put my grapes and berries in the freezer. they rock
I have a Champion juicer and tried this out. It's awesome! I'm going to add some more frozen fruit into the mix like they said and see how it turns out.
Really amazing I was thinking wheres the cream and sugar etc, but just bandannas wow I've really learnt something here, thanks great video I'll be making this.
I have an old meat grinder that I bought for $20, and it works pretty well for these kind of things. It won't give you the perfect result, but good enough.
@katies55555 It works, but my god is it noisy, and it takes so long. An auger juicer is a fairly minor investment considering Omega offers a 15 year warranty with it.
i havent tried this with it, but i used it for years to make juice. it works very well. i use a vitamix now for stuff. the champion is a good juicer though
What a wonderful ice cream. The only thing is, I do not know the name of the machine that you used to make the banana ice cream. Without the name of the machine, I just enjoy looking at you make your wonderful fruit ice cream. My suggestion is for you to say what machine you used to make the ice cream, because some of us do not know and are just learning.
I've made this with strawberries, banana and cacao. ZOMG!! I made it when I went to a family gathering because I'm vegan so I don't eat their food... everyone wanted MY desert! lol.
I cut it into pieces and add a bit of plant-milk and then cocoa. 'God' didnt make it - I did!

@Denmarkpwns You're the stupid one. Ripe bananas are easier to digest, hence more healthful. Try wrapping your brain around that.

That banana would be too ripe for me to eat alone. However, I let bananas get very ripe to freeze for slushies!

frozen foods are much more raw than cooked foods. the vast majority of nutrients are preserved but there may be a few exceptions.

You don't actually need any fancy equipment to do this.
Simply chop bananas and put them in a ziplock bag. Place in the freezer.
Once they're frozen well, just smash them in the bag itself using your hands. A blender would help though it's not necessary.
Serve immediately.
I've been making this so many times and it's awesome :D

Oh come on.. do you people even know what ice cream is? If it just contains a fruit, it cannot be an ice cream as it has no milk fat.
This is nothing more than a frozen banana puree.

WRONG, you are so wrong. This tastes just like ICE CREAM. Without the calories and fat, la la la la la la la.
