  • I have a climber silver tech and a classic red craftsman. Do you think I should try to put the silver scales on the craftsman, and create a silvertech craftsman? Would the scales fit as if they were installed pay the manufacturer?

  • wow

  • Acetone

  • (`・∀・)b

  • anyone have a link to a UK site that would sell the scales?

  • What did you search on eBay to bring there up?

  • "toll-you-all" : D

  • i just recently removed the scales of mine, and one of them bacame loose, so i contacted victorinox and they said they had to be machined on

  • uugghhh, mormon ads

  • On the small ones if you leave the scales off it can make the knife a ton thinner

  • qwic this vid is ten min

  • notice the gap in the middle of the knife once the scale is taken off. a good place to store your hash

  • hi, i have a question:

are these army knives detected by metal detectors because i have a small one which ive never taken out...its just there in my drawer.

  • what websitedid u get these

  • @mattuoni

    ebay

  • @GearBuyersGuide O_o *super meat boy stinger after chapter intro plays*

    *all swiss army knives break*

  • for someone who just carries a knife to have the "handi-ness" of it (not an outdoorsman by any means at all) why not just snap the scales off, so its thinner in your pocket? I do a lot of really fine small electronic modding, and just picked up a victorinox tinker (new) at a gun+knife show, and after seeing this, I'm positing that I've going to keep the scales off of mine. I just wanted to know any negative effects of this (remember, no exposure to outdoor elements)

  • @evanthepanther

I think it would hurt your hands when using the knife is all

  • @GearBuyersGuide the edges are just a bit sharper feeling, but beyond that its just fine (although when opening and closing the knife blade itself could cut you if you were too "enthusiastic" about it), thanks for the quick response!

  • @evanthepanther if you touch something electrical with the scales on you probally wont get a shock if you have it the off you will get a shock :)

  • Are you the man from gunwebsites

  • @dolodomo

yes, this is our gear channel

  • toll yoo ol

  • so..... what good did you did if you pop the scales off?

dont destroy a knife not even an old one

  • I see how to clean them, but don't see any real modification.

  • Hey! That's where my Paxil knife went! Thank god I still have my electroshock therapy knife.

  • dude... that magnifying glass was awesome... never seen anyone on youtube really do that before... they're always fiddling with their camera...

  • @bieli0

I got that idea from Cutlerylover, he uses that trick all the time.

If you havent seen his videos / reviews you are in for a treat, check his channel out !!

  • @GearBuyersGuide have a give away for the mr peanut one

  • WOW i waant all of those!

  • This was just absolutely halarius.

  • i did it yesterday to clean my good old Spartan

  • yea thats so much easier than shipping it to victorinox and having them not only fix it, but oil, clean and sharpen it for free

  • "Toluol"? Sounds german for "Trololol"

  • I found watching this video very relaxing for some reason!

  • Give away? Ill take it lol

  • Nice little collection of SAKs!

  • my Swiss Army knife is much bigger;) but has also cost 120fr

  • Can i buy one mini one from you pls ?

  • DONT SAND THEM... POLISH THEM WITH A MOTO TOOL ...IT`LL COME RIGHT OFF. IF YOU CANT DO IT...I`LL POST THE VIDEO..

  • 10+ minutes of how to pop a knife scale off

  • @stymye

now you know to never watch our videos again, easy fix

  • "Throw away" a perfectly good knife? My brain can't even comprehend that.

  • I'd feel funny buying those lots of TSA confiscations. Not so much the freebies given out by the various companies, but the others bought by people with their own hard-earned money would make me feel a bit like a thief.

  • Nice work. happy new year from Sweden

  • Comment removed

  • can i have one?

  • u bout like 13 classics of of ebay right were they used

  • My comment must of vaporized into the either! I was saying that you could use ordinary toothpaste which is a micro-abrasive and not only polish the markings right off but also restore the shiny surface finish the knife had when new. Toothpaste restores plastic watch crystals also to their original clear state. Rinse off the residue with a little mild soap and water.

  • @mnestrt

I want to thank mnestrt for this tip. I tried it (toothpaste) on a dinged up, scuffed up Huntsman and it's got a nice shine back. It's not perfect, but I bet if I kept at it, I could get it pretty close to the original shine. The dings in the scales would probably require sanding first and I don't know if I want to go that far. But thumbs up for the toothpaste tip.

  • @CanItAlready Thanks for the feedback. Happy to be able to contribute something useful. I personally would ignore the dings in the scales. They just prove to me that it's a working knife. Besides, as useful as a quality Swiss Army knife is, it's not like they are made out of gold even though they could be considered to be worth thier weight in gold. I think also that even the finest grit sandpaper would still remove much more material than is needed.

  • victorinox not vetrinox

  • The red one with out scissors is an escort

  • @Theunit236

    thanks

  • Would a Swiss Army Knife Hiker, be classed as a big or small Swiss Army Knife?

  • @ArmyBoy611 medium

  • hey there no need for sanding, just try some cellulose thinner, the thinner always got anything off of my scales i didn´t like. And don´t mind about bleaching out the scales themselfes it´s only superficial. Give it a try u´ll c

  • hmm ye the blade style works well on both types , when i was a kid i took mine apart .

  • hahahah dont try to modify your sack lol

  • hahahah dont try to modify your sack lol

  • hey mate i like your style:) so i have that swisschamp and i accidentally removed the scales when i bioled it(yep i suck i know:S) i was wondering if i can fix it on my own using your techic and a scale from the cheapest same length knife of victorinox!what do u think?if there is a way i can buy the scales without buying a whole knife plz tell me how!

  • its the secretary

  • I've always wanted to order one of those ebay/airport lots like this.....but I can't bring myself to do it because I just keep thinking how those knives could have been anywhere, doing who knows what with other people...How many fell in a toilet, or was on a bathroom or subway, or hospital floor? How many people have used those toothpicks on their teeth? How much gross bloody splinters have those tweezers removed?

That kind of stuff has always stopped me, even though I could try and clean it.

  • Hey if u still have the swissarmy knife that ur going to throw away can I have it?

  • Where on earth did you find them?

i cant find owt like dat!

    Nice vids btw.

  • I just happened to stumble across your video. If you're still searching for a solvent to remove the paint, you might want to try ethyl acetate. You can get this stuff from entomology suppliers, or as acetone-free nail-polish remover from drug stores.

    It worked for me.

  • @gesamtszenario

Hey, thanks for the tip, I still haven't found anything to do it.. I'll give this a try

  • @GearBuyersGuide if you dond want a few name ones send me some plz

  • Please accept my sincere apologies for my comments. I honestly did not intend to sound so rude. One of many off days I guess. I think at the time I was frustrated as a result of having just viewed several " Instructional Videos" where the producers didn't have a clue what they were talking about. I have since watched several of your other videos & found them very informative & well done. Sorry for sounding like an ass. Again, please accept my apologies.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers!

  • @ graemelockieable

no harm no foul, we all have bad days, and the internet doesn't convey intent very well..

    thanks for watching

  • Of course you could also just buy new replacement scales and make those look like new again.

  • @ stressmaster5000

sure, but this project was on the cheap

  • Dude, toluol is pronounced "tol-you-all" & if you aren't familiar with it be careful it's strong stuff! The knife you are making a video about is pronounced Victorianox not Vetrinox. Sorry, I do not search for mistakes in videos it just drives me crazy when some one makes a video about something & doesn't know what they're doing or saying.

Thanks for the idea about changing out the tacky slogans on the scales of some knives. Cheers!

  • @ graemelockieable

    WTF ??

    What a rude SOB..

I guess I didn't notice this one get posted..

    Cheers your self

  • where did oyu get these small knifes ???

  • I always thought my multi tool was screwed in in the inside or something but yay...i have a 2 3/4 long 3/4 thick 13 tool multi tool and i took the scales off of it and not its 1/2 in thick!! :D now its fully steal although now its a 11 tool :P thanks dude :D i might beable to fit it in my survival knife handle now

  • cool, glad the video helped

  • down the road..... advertising or give me knives are worth ALOT......... Yeah I know sak's are a dime a dozen now but 30 years down the road 50-60 bucks each I have old school barlows that have ads on them I have a keen kutter with a john deere logo I picked up in a garage sale,$10 good condition, $150

  • ahh, thanks

  • Cool vid.

  • thanks, did you pull them off your knife? how did it go?

  • Not had a go myself but may do. God to know how.

  • thankms for the response video, great point! I had not taken a classic apart myself in a while and forgot about the different rivet pattern, great tip! very random fact about mr peanut, lol, did you know the biggest colector of mr peanut stuff is actually allergic to peanuts, funny fdact for you...

  • Thanks for the trivia, I hadn't heard that one

This was our first response, thanks for accepting it

Your videos are great, thanks for making them

  • thanks for the interest in them, haha, I have fun making the videos knowing people are entertained by them and if you walk away learning something new thats a bonus...

  • Set this as a video response :D

  • I would but I don't know how to do that.. but I'll try to figure it out

  • doh, it was easy .. thanks for the suggestion

So this was our first attempt at it

  • i tried doing this on my swiss army, i found out pink glue was holding the scale. then is sort of "broke apart" i threw it in the trash anyway. it sucked.
