  • great band. great musicians .

  • What a silly mullet

  • Sam Bush is so full of sh!t....but in a really good way...ya know? LOL!! Love Sammy!

  • Sam Bush your are awesome and Bela is no slouch...okay, he's unbelievable. Hi Bela how are you?....Jack Baker NYC

  • It's a shame that the audience didn't seem to appreciate the awesome performance. That was epic in the true sense of the word. Before all that lol brb wdbc mumbojumbo.

  • Wow that some kinda pickin! Thanks for sharing this high energy and enjoyable video.

  • Wow good stuff thanks for the post...thanks strawman8 for the link..Aussie:)

  • they sound so good, its fun to see someone playing music like this...having fun playing it.

  • Dear God..I'm thinkin' they are a freak of nature! I so love NGR. I miss them so much!

  • You're the one that I want. Whoo Whoo woo. Weird.

  • Buddy breaks his string at 0:59

  • @sudam666 lol. good eye.

  • Beautiful!

  • nice hairdo

  • Goddamn. This is some incredible stuff. I'm sold.

  • Absolutely incredible.

  • Masters all! Wish they would get back together and record.

  • So many popular singers these days don't have that range or can be so precise in pitch. I don't care if they don't like bluegrass, they could still take a few pointers from Cowen.

  • Greatest band that never was.

  • @ericgarner23 you got tht rite, but they were out of there time..lol

  • holy shit

  • ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC! IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER!!

  • Gawd, they were astonishing...

  • dpkll5 i totally agree with you these guys need to get back for a reuninon i was raised on them and like was said on here by someone else noone else is rly close to the sound those 4 guys made together i think we all need a "revival" of new grass revival lol

  • This version is way better than the album version! Drums should not be allowed in bluegrass!

  • I love the look on Sam's face at 1:23.

  • @redbirdjazzz

I think Bela surprised him with a riff he hadn't heard yet...

  • yum

  • holy shit john cowan! whats on your head?

  • Sammy baby!

  • I have been a head bangger for 35 years. But this is one of my top ten songs of all time.

  • @MrXrayis

I used to be a headbanger. When you're exposed to this kind of stuff it makes you forget about power chords...

  • WOW, Thats amazing!

  • Even today that sounds new, and they did that back in the 80's i think some where around that time, there is no other bluegrass band that can come close to that, I know its not, quote "Bluegrass" but there is no other band in today field that can, not beat those 4 guys.... I think its time for a N.G.R back together tour what do all of you think , maybe get a petition going asking them to do that for there fans.....

  • Good lord, I loves me some John Cowan!! What a set of pipes! (And what a hair do!)

  • Congratulations!

Just different from the original - but made in its special way very professional and excellent!

A real pleasure to listen to and I like it very much!

    Greetings from good ole Bavaria

  • what an interesting band

  • John Cowan's singing (and hair) + Sam Bush's mando pickin and harmony + Pat Flynn's bitchin' solo + Bela Fleck's machine-gun ascending riff = a great freakin' New Grass tune!

  • i love you john, what a voice

  • does anyone know what year this was?

  • @feherplay 1986

  • Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!

  • bela raped this song. in the best way possible

  • Fantastic! Thanks

  • john cowan high notes = aural orgasm

  • that's why it's NEW grass :p

  • These guys are real pros.

  • The solos are all great -- even Sam's little one on the mandolin -- and vocals and harmony are outstanding, the song is wonderful. But the thing that makes it for me is ALL those THINGS the banjo is doing in and behind the music. Inventive, colorful, it is the beat and the drive; THAT's the greatest thing of a great cut.

Anyone know when/where this was recorded?

  • All the solos -- even the little mandolin one -- are great, the vocal & harmony outstanding, but what makes it for me are ALL those little things the banjo is doing in and behind the vocal; it's the beat, the drive, the color, and the originality and virtuosity are unparalleled. How great it all is.

Does anyone know where and when this was recorded?

  • Pat Flynn has it going on --Still all these years later!!! great

  • Bela's solo rocks!

  • Agreed!

  • Never heard anyone get quite that much sound out of a mandolin, sam bush, you are the man.

  • check out Sam Bush protege 18 yr old Sierra Hull, who happens to be appearing with John Cowan in Boston next month.-

  • Opened for John about a month ago and he still sounds amazing!!!

  • John cowen is the greatest singer of all time! I think my face fell of after I heard this

  • @immelalex He puts to "OMG" into "OMG"! lol. Followed him for years, Telluride Bluegrass, Lyon Bluegrass, The Aggie in Ft. Collins. I also have a few pictures taken with him. What a down to earth, kind, humble human being he is! I LOVE me some John Cowan!

  • @immelalex John Cowan is indeed one of the best singers ever!

  • @immelalex don;t know where I have been on these guys, just great, thanks for utube. other wise you wouldn't know of groups. like these. john cowan is really super.

  • So very awesome. :)

  • Some of my greatest music memories seeing them live back in the day...just amazing

  • Johnny sure knew how to dress back then, eh!?!

  • No matter what you think of the music you gotta love that Flock of Seagulls haircut.

  • I got to see John in Blowing Rock last month and WOW! Dude is still amazing.

  • Had John and Pat in the studio and they are the nicest guys you would want to meet!

  • Hinds sights 20/20. I'd have that place packed with immediate family. Then friends, if they were lucky!

  • Each member of this band contribute equally to its magic. My son at 4 years old was sold on bluegrass by them, and now, today teaches strings and drama at a local high school where he introduces bluegrass along with classical, jazz, rock, pop and more. This band has no idea how much we admired them and still do.

  • Some of the greatest pickers of all time! You guys 'GRASS' !

  • John is amazing! The whole group is! I used to say I was going to marry John someday, love his voice!!!

  • Chills. Just flat out scary good.

  • One of the best bands in America...bella fleck is a leg end.

  • Believe it or not John Cowan filled in for lead singer of the Dooby Brothers in a concert we went to at Taho back somewhere in the 1990's. He's the best.

  • I think John Cowan is the finest vocalist I've ever heard , in any form of popular music, even today his voice is incredible, he makes ordinary songs sound extraordinary, and a fantastic bass player too, what a man !!!!

  • @dougienancy Your right, there's not many people can sing live and hit the notes he can.

  • @dougienancy And what a mullet!!

  • Sam Bush rules!

  • Did they just say "hey we will just wear whatever is clean" lol i love it

  • John Cowan has a remarkable voice... I actually played in a band with a guy named Dennis Bone who played bass and sang alot like John...not as good, but similar...Crazy memories! Thanks for posting!!!

  • Compelling stuff. Bela Fleck is as usual absolutely amazin'

  • The band broke up on New Years Eve 1989 and I sure have missed them. I guess with all that talent in one place, something had to happen....
