@Umpqua1012 : I believe Duncansby is the sibling lighthouse of Esha Ness Light, they were built to the same design and around a similar time. Never been to Esha, a bit too remote there I think.
Legends are made of many waters and many sailors that sale them, many captains many who sail the seas, and the stories to be believed over years prior, from times we donot even know today, things legends are made of. how awesome.
This morning I was sitting in the dentist office and two pictures of lighthouses caught my attention...I then searched for videos of lighthouses on youtube and came across a video with one of the lighthouses that caught my attention in the video...I was amazed at what I had witnessed with my own two eyes...every since this morning I have all of a sudden came discovered a new passion and fascination in me "LIGHTHOUSES" thanks Jane as well for the video...hopefully I can see one in person soon :)
Hi Jane, have only just seen your video, which is really good. Have been to Dunnet Head a couple of times, with (Ex-partner) who was actually born there. His Father was the lighthouse keeper. Mr Mackay who passed away many years ago now. Two of his three children returned, and both live within 40 miles of Dunnet Head now. Shell ;))
Thanks Gordon, I am afraid I haven't seen the lighthouse at Boddam ( Buchan Ness) and all Foghorns/Sirens are now shut off, except for the old harbour lighthouse. Thanks for sharing Rattray Head, did your father enjoy being a keeper?
Aye my Faither enjoyd being the light house Keeper very much at Rattray Head and Boddam.
I remember being on night shift with him when i was a bairn and i had the pleasure of lighting the light' it was like a tilly lamp' and we had to pump up the pressure every now an then to keep the light glowing!
And also had to wind up the chain with the weight that drove the clockwork mecanisim to turn the lenses!
The nearest I got to Dunnet Head as a Lighthouse keeper was across the bay at Holburn Head see this and the other lights I served at. Even after seventeen years I yearn for the days when I was lighting up.
Thanks, unfortunately the Cape is too far, however I hope to see Clythness and Noss head, and maybe revisit Tarbet Ness at some point-thankyou for enjoying the video:)
Thanks for watching Des, no it is orkney and it was really clear you could see Swona Island lighthouse and Copinsay in the distance, it astounds me that they would want to get rid of them, the currents are treacherous especially there as two "races" meet, I am not sure whether Pentland Skerries and Stroma still have their fog horns ( electric) active.
Duncansby looks a lot like Esha ness, except I like Duncansby more!

of course provided the ship is in the waters it was first given entry to, that should be without saying.

Thanks for that Jane!
My late uncle used to be a keeper on the Pentland skerries and when i was a peedie lad,he used to tell me stories about what life was like.
I ended up wanting to do the same but automation ruined my chance.
Still obsessed though...

Your welcome and I know what you mean;-)

Last one was Skerryvore, switched off 4 Oct 2005.

Pity.

Scotland and the IoM have no active fog signals any more. The last one was Isle of Mull or Calf of Man I think just over a year ago.
hellooldchap 3 years ago
Then the NLB need to update there site as Stroma and Pentland are mentioned as having active fog horns.
jane1975 3 years ago
Nice day for it. Is that Shetland visable at Dunnet? I think 3 NLB lights were switched off recently.
