  • I love this song!!

  • Great song, ridiculous video.

  • "your skin is like water on a burning beach"....my God that's beautiful!

  • @donotsaycheese You have highlighted the key line in the song - I think this is Tim Finn's best ever song - both deeply spiritual and utterly physical - which is where life happens for all of us, whether we recognize the dichotomy or not. And it's such a beautiful melody.....

  • Genius band. They can perform the most meaningful, gentle ballad, or a purely fun piano jingle with the goofiest yet most awesome video. Quality. :-)

  • @Bohemian Conspiracy; your way with words is, itself, quite magical...

  • @DarklingStar1969 ... thank you... when i re-read myself... i released that i just think too much... seriously... it's just a "wide open mouth" music... Radiohead were openly fan of Crowded House at the time of the recording of "Ok Computer" .... it's just an exemple of the influences of this album... and... ok computer is less "tribal" than crowded house.... until fine young canibals enter the show... eh eh

  • I'm sure that most children in the world will be amazed by this rich music...as if a caravan of weird and passionate gypsies stop at the center of each village for a trancendental bohemian show... for this music children can be potentially delighted...(even beyond the Michael Jackson phenomenon !) ... it's just a question of vision and ears ... apparently nobody gives Crowded House a chance to be really heard by the new (disturbed) generation...

  • My best friend was one of the "angels" in that film clip(cute one with curly hair) shes like 22 now

  • when I first listened this song I was 16 and since this song is leitmotif of my life I know it's stupid but there are things unexplained I think that his timbre matters a lot. good vocals + beautiful music - that's it, I like the fact that few people like this band

  • jesus... is this what they use to name transcendental meditation ?

  • neil finn , great singer , supreme songwriter ,love this song

  • I remeber this song when I first moved to australia on the radio then disappear and only refound it now so many memories

  • Neil Finn is the best songwriter. He has toughed my life since I was 8 years old and never disappoints me.

  • I love Weather with you, but for me this just pips it as the mighty Crowded House's best ever.

  • the end is so fabullous... the guitar fuzz ...the bass turn as a wheel... and the vocals ...are extatic... it's like a modern version of dennis wilson!

  • neil finns written some brilliant songs but this is my all time favourite , its just perfection , great tune ,lyrics , voice , love it .

  • Neil Finn is one of musics truly great lyricists

  • I loved this song when i was in my teens. Still do.

    rest ye well, Paul Hester.

  • I really really love this song, one of the best Crowded House songs!!!

  • A band that deserved to be a lot more successful in the US than they were.

  • @CelestialJudge true that

  • My all-time favorite CH song!

  • total surrender - fuck I love that part

  • I love the chorus to this.

  • When you hear Crowded House you don't understand why the British press is so excited about Brit-pop.Neil Finn's songs are pure beauty.

  • Out of this world, no comments! Period.

  • New Zealand's Beatlesxx

  • such a great lyric, so effing clever... beaut stuff

  • Can someone please recommend an album to me that is better than Crowded House's Together Alone?

I'm 37, from the UK and to be honest, I'm completely in the dark on that.

(Oh, and please let's not argue about Woodface - it too was awesome!)

And bear in mind Steve Martin said that talking about music is like dancing about architecture :)

  • @demonizyt there is no better album. Together Alone is the greatest album of all time. Well, Together Alone and Bon Jovi's first album. I'm kidding. Just a little hair metal humor.

  • Saw these guys live last night truly brilliant in every way

  • I love this great song

  • Idk about this one...

  • Awful video but AMAZING song!!!!!! <3

  • Neil Finn you truly are a genius.

  • Aaaaahhhh 90s videos. Soooooo ridiculous and cheesy. Great song though!!

  • Much better than the ones they do now, though. Most videos today only show rappers wearing big chains round their necks, driving expensive cars and having girls with their asses and tits showing dancing around them. Whatever happened to originality/creativity, I wonder...

  • One of many wonderful Crowded House songs. Thanks so much to those guys :)

  • Great songwriter

  • awesome!!! love you neil :X:X:X

  • There is a god... and he speaks to us through Neil Finn.

  • He speaks to us through our lord Jesus Christ.

  • @ady10001 God is in us all.

  • Yes he definitely does. No other human has ever touched my spirit the way that Neil has. No one. Everyone says my voice is the female version of his. We're strangely connected in some way...

  • best crowded house song...(imho)

  • class song from a class band. the best.

  • i've been listening to these guys for 20 years.sense the splitenz, neils solo stuff is good too,20 years later it's timeless, even as new music comes out.

  • Truly an oasis for the soul.

  • Yeaaah! It's one of the best band! I have no words!!!

  • awesome! 100% awesome!.

  • It's from "Together Alone"album, from 1993.One of their best songs.

  • Cheers

  • Gorgeous song!

  • I can't find this song on Itunes. Does anyone know where it can be downloaded?

  • yeah i also grew up listening to them. BEST BAND

  • One of the best bands ever. Dad bought me up listening to these guys, cannot thank him enough.

  • oh crap that comment makes me feel really old lol

  • hahah well i'm 20 :P

  • You can't beat this. What a fucken fantastic song. I don't care what album it went on. It was written! God bless you Neil. You are my fucken gem my boy!

    Thanks for the memories!

  • Top Song!!

Was anyone else shocked it wasn't on Recurring Dream: The Best of Crowded House?

  • Very shocked! It's one of their best songs and it was a single to boot, so one would think that it warrants inclusion on their "Best Of" compilation. Oh well.

  • yes I agree....should not have been left off.."when you come "was bit of a duffer yet it was included?

  • When you come is AWESOME!

  • Not shocked that it was left off - but I take the point; it's one of my favourite CH tracks - depending how moody I am feeling. Opening line is an all time classic and my eyes often fill when it hits the minute mark

  • Yeah! Maybe Neil didn't like it as much as he liked some of his other songs, but i find that highly unlikely as it is a great song. Keyboardist and guitarist Mark Hart named it as his favourite Crowded House song

  • 3:11 to 3:22 gorgeous ...

  • neil finn, proof that the eighties mainstream was not a complete waste of time.

  • Could not agree more - some 80's is good: only me and you make it shit with our revivalist agenda

  • i love this song

  • Such a great song and album. Please tour again!

  • Ha ha, I like that reply;-)Funny how Neil Finns hair is a recurring topic... luckily so is he's music! That is a bit more appropriate:-)

  • Guess I also fancy Neil because of his hair!!

:-) Never the less, this is the song my husband and I put on our rings to...ha ha... We did it a year after we got married and it was a warm, full and intimate experience... I didn't think of Neil at that point;-0

  • I fancy Neil in spite of his hair.

  • For you PB - my fave BTW

  • I remember my sister used to fancy Neil because of his hair!

  • Lovely song!

  • this song is so full and warm

  • my fav crowded house song cant understand why its not on the greatest hits

  • well said! The vocal is one of his best..

  • the "nails in my feet" is in no reference to Christianity ; it's in relation to gardening sandles with spikes in the soles that you can wear to aerate your lawn (I had read that in an interview that Neil did). but if you only have seen the video, it's not surprising that one would assume that the inspiration for the song had to do with religion.

  • Eh lá, o fundo parece-se mesmo com as ruínas do Convento do Carmo...

  • *sighs* i love Crowded House.

  • "Total surrender, your touch is so tender, your skin is like water on a burning beach, and it brings me relief" Another classic Neil Finn line. It gives me goosebumps.

  • me too :p

    Classic line nuff said :)

  • @nexuspexus that's my favorite line in this song. What a gifted writer.

  • @nexuspexus Well put.It has that effect on me too!

  • What an amazing song! I like it!

  • i met him hes awesome

  • and It brings me RELIEEEEEEEEEEEF :) amazing song, but which crowded house song isn't :)

  • total surrender...

  • thank you for posting this love neil finn sj..

  • Oops. You are right. It is nails IN my feet. I had Together Alone back in 96.

Private Universe was another memorable one.

  • ISn't it Nails at my feet? NOt in. NO matter.

  • the best song ever ,who cares about the video

  • I agree. It's my favorite by Crowded House as well. People get hung up on visuals, I share your view about the video. who cares. It's touching music. "Cast me off one day to lose my inhibitions" goes so well with the music.

  • they played this at the brissie concert, my mum saw it, i love the song, so beautiful thanks.

  • brilliant song and video ;) but is without Paul...

  • Paul Had pretty much quit at this time...they were touring with the drummer from 'the the'

  • and another thing, listen to the commentary for "farewell to the world" dvd, neil finn says himself that the video was a mistake.

  • yes i do know that neil finn has said that his songs can be interpreted in any way, but this video is so literal it doesnt give the viewer any choice in interpreting it themselves, it instantly becomes a religious metaphor.

and how dare you twist my words and make me into a bad person. as seadave said, theyre just flaky religious themes, that in the end become a bit insulting to religion.

    stop being so negative

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, a highlight of 'together alone'. pure poetry.

personally i feel the video is in bad taste, and despite the name i never really thought that the song was particularly religious.

well, i'll just tell myself it is the fault of some wanky video director.

  • Bad taste? Seriously? Neil has repeatedly said that most of his music isn't literal. People are free to interpet it how they wish. As for the video, it's all imagery. Ever see any other CH videos? How many of them seriously coinside with the song? No many if any, like most artists. If showing religious images is considered bad taste, then freedom of expression is something that must make your blood boil. Really sad.

  • this is the best song ever written. genius. pure genius.

  • You said it all. It's shocking to me that more people don't know about CH and/or Neil Finn. No finer Songwriter around. A brilliant song from a brilliant band.

  • couldn't agree more.

  • Totally agree Markfly!

  • Truly the most inspirational band on the planet. No begging for the world to join them in their love of Christ. Simply a statement of faith.

I once asked Neil if his music was Christian or spritual. He answered "Is there a big audience for that?"

The Live Earth performance is a classic. The lights went out and they played on~! It was pure magic!~

  • "Your skin is like water on a burning beach...and it brings me relief". What utter poetry! LOVE this song, never seen the video before now...found the video a bit unimaginative to be honest, but thrilled to bits the guys are back together and touring!

  • surprised that this song it´s not included in "recurring dream", the very best of them!

  • probably neil finn poking out his greatest lyrics.

what gets me is that channelll :V_!)))>?"{"" actaully played this kind of studd

isn't channel v all about duel ladies making (out) stephen merchant.

  • awesome! i've been looking for this video!!

    thanx a lot man!!!

  • Nobody crafts a melody better than Neil Finn, and this is one of his finest songs. Brilliant stuff.

  • Gosh, I never even knew that was a single! It's one of my favourite Crowded House songs. It proves how quirky and unusual they were for a pop band, it has that tune twist that still sends shivers down my spine. Shame it's so rarely played live. This era was when I discovered the Crowdies, circa 1993. Together Alone would be one of my desert island discs...

And look, Mark Hart can smile! :)

  • This is great stuff. Has anyone got the video for "Recurring dream"? That's another great song from CH. Cheers

  • its odd to see Neil without a guitar

  • It's maybe their greatest song ever ( with Distant Sun imo) I may sound snob but I'm glad it's not a hit, it's like a burried treasure "your skin is like water on a burning beach.."

  • Good taste, couldnt choose between this and 'Distant Sun' as my favourite Crowded House song. Both gloriously uplifting.

  • I believe the lyric is "burning bridge"

  • Brilliant, thanks. Have always thought this was one of their best songs, yet it's not on the greatest hits... and I've never seen the video before. Bring on the reunion tour.
