Shoot I have more respect for the Republicans of the 19th century than the republicans now. What happened? How did they go from the party that was committed to abolishing slavery, punishing the South, and equal civil rights to the anti-Obama, "protect the rich", Tea Party now? The Party of Lincoln is now the party of Corporate America and anti "anything Obama does".

Reconstruction= Oakland, Compton, Long Beach, East St. Louis, New Orleans, Detroit, Atlanta, dirty cities, gangs, millions in tax payer money for social programs-welfare, financial aid, etc., millions in prison expenses. There was no Federal Income Tax in the United States before the Civil War/ Reconstruction, now we have Federal, State and Sales Tax. I wander if Lincoln knew that we would still be paying for his policies 150 years later. The freedmen gave our country eternal problems.

@billy66179 I wonder if the Founding Fathers knew that we would still be paying for their indifference to slavery. Had those demagogues abolished slavery during their time, we would not be having welfare problems now.

Either way you spin it, there is not an inherent inferiority in the black race that causes problems, but rather an inherent evil in the white people who believed that they were better human beings merely because they had less melanin in their skin.

@billy66179 Did we watch the same documentary? lol. It was the continued efforts of suppresion that kept many freedmen from being independent therefore resulting in poorer education and lifestyle. However remembering that it has only been 150 years, what the desendents of the freedmen have acheived is amazing!
