I think, atleast that's what i've learned from home is that if the pentagram is pointed up it stance for the higher powers of good(fire,water,wind,earth and the spirit) and pointed down the higher powers of evil(blood,death,flesh and 2 others I can't remember)

The pentagram has been a holy protective symbol of many ancient religions, long before the early Christian church propaganda declared it to be a symbol of pagan evil. Some sources claim if it is displayed point up it symbolizes the power of higher spirit over the flesh; point down, the desires of flesh over the divine.
