She may have had a pre-judgement of you because she had no inner peace. That's been my experience. When someone has inner peace, or even some certainty, they aren't looking for the faults in those they claim to love. She clearly had more to learn than you could reasonably continue to help her with.  And, you are right: Half-stepping is bullshit and people will be surprised when it no longer gets them what they need, want, or expect.
