As is the habit for me, I heard "vampire" and came running thinking that the mermaid might be something like what the Smithsonian has in their archives. But as is much more common with such things, this is without a doubt the saddest attempt at a hoax I've seen yet.

Shame really, since the Smithsonian would pay big bucks for a live Fiji mermaid (though the carcass would pay well too lol).

@Eliana1181 Eliana, If you'd done any actual historical research on the vampire you would know that the real vampires that were feared for so long during the Dark Ages to the Age of Reason in the late 1700 to early 1800's, were thought of as nothing more than hideous zombies that had fangs and drank blood. The late 1800's Victorian literature renaissance brought about the romanticisation of these creatures from ugly to beautiful with works like Lord Byron's poem "The Giaour" & Stoker's "Dracula"
