  • This design is dangerous, cause if the sun change position substantially, the focus point will change and can hit your face with concentrated light of sun.

  • You're right. Once the sun jerked hard to the right while I was standing there and the concentrated sunlight melted my nose off.

  • @josephmcmullin Thats hillarious man, i don't usually like videos but i'm liking this after that comment

  • nice design. looks like it works well. The power co. probably would not lke to see too many ppl using these. lol

  • hey did you make this yourself? I like to have a weekend/summer project looking for ideas. If you would be willing to post the design/specs very much appreciated!

  • Nice design. I think I'm going to try this myself.

What focal length are you using?

  • I don't have any plans to, but if you're interested I can give you some basic specs. Email me at: mcmullin.joseph (at) gmail

  • thats a really great idea, im wanting to try that myself what exactly are you using cause it looks like a large piece of curved glass or somthing like that, but yeah if you can giveme some instruction on how to make that would be great thanks

  • Are you going to post the plans to make this?

  • Wow! That is really a nice grill! Hope you have the instructions on how you made it!

I use box ovens, panel cookers and have designed some neat oval ovens that cook really good. I have been wanting to make some sorta like what you have, but with a wide griddle to cook roti and other flat breads on that need intense heat.

Keep posting more videos and keep solar cooking!

  • Cool, I mean really hot. It gives you a long parabolic shape over the cooking surface and none of the extra bulk of a full-dimension parabola. I might be tempted to extend the cooking surfaces a little wider even though it might not heat up so well, but just like a grill in a diner, there would be a really hot center where your current cooking surface is, hot and warm places at the edges. It might save your mirrors from getting grease splashed on them too. Solar cooking "outside the box." Neat.
